Odysseus is the considerably relatable main protagonist of The Odyssey. The Odyssey is a thrilling epic poem composed by Homer in 8th century B.C. Greece. Similarly to Odysseus, I have goals of my own. Adventuring to various faraway places is something I love to do frequently. We are similar in appearance, as well. Obstacles prohibit us from doing what we want to do. Those aforementioned obstacles also push us to achieve our goals. I participate in the sport track as a sprinter. Throughout the entirety of my high school career —whenever I would walk down the hallway— I would look at the track and field school record board. When I was in 1st grade I participated in my first ever mile race. In this race, people of all sizes and ages participated. I was a small turbulent boy, so I decided I would start in front of everyone. Since I was not fast enough, I was trampled; thus, I fell down and my knees were scraped and covered in blood. At that point, I had to decide whether to give up or continue running the race. Odysseus gave these wise words to his men: ‘Dear friends, we’ve had our share of trials and tests; and what has happened now is hardly worse...’ (Homer 243). Like Odysseus, I picked myself up from the concrete, persevered, and kept on running. To further elaborate upon my situation, whenever I would do strenuous physical exercise, or even write notes, my muscles would instantly feel fatigued. It felt very similar to opening your hands outside in the cold. Regardless, my muscles would not move. This became an obstacle in my daily life. Just like how Odysseus outwits the cyclops, ‘... I know that we will now survive and store in memory these dangers too.’(123). I later got somewhat of a handle on my irregular situation by consuming lots of water, healthy foods, vitamins, and stretching every day. For me, this— more relatably— became the Poseidon to my Odysseus, and, quite frankly, I am not even sure if I will reach Ithaca; however, I will undoubtedly try to get there.
In conclusion, I have various things in common with the main protagonist of the Greek epic poem The Odyssey. Whether it is a colossal world or not, there are more similarities over differences between every person than meets the eye. Through every person, we can somehow manage to see a reflection of ourselves despite the distance or difference in
