Type of information Description Example Purpose Source
Verbal Verbal is face-to-face communication and sharing speech, phone or audio/video call and even through the speaker in a Tesco market. There are is a greater chance to be understood through verbal communication as the way you express what you mean can make more sense to the other person. An example, of verbal information would be employees communicating to exchange vital information about things like different meetings or appointments. The purpose for verbal information is to get the message across the whole department or working area. Source for verbal information would be internal as the employees are communicating within the company. However, in case an employee such as a manager has to speak about the business or company with a representative from the government. It would be an external source but, it is mostly internal.
Written Written communication can be explained as any type of message that makes use of the written word. This would include, writing a letter, memo, taking notes or anything else that has to be written or typed up on a computer. An example of written communication would be writing reports, e-mails or letters in the company or business. The purpose of written communication is to communicate through written pieces rather than verbal if it is not possible to talk to an employee or if a file such as a report needs to be created. The source for written information is internal as all the e-mails, reports and letters and other things are completed and composed at the work place in a certain sector of the company or business.
On-screen On-screen information is presented to the customers or viewers by adverts, short video advertisements, or big signs in random busy locations to advertise a product. An example of on-screen information can be an advert created by Tesco that is then featured outside of the shop or on a web site for people to learn about promotions or other message that Tesco wants to send across. The purpose of on-screen information is to attract people to shop at a place or to promote a product as well as, for someone to learn about a new company. On-screen information is an internal source because all the adverts in a form of a banner and other on-screen information was made inside the company or business in a certain sector such as the retailing sector.
Multimedia Multimedia is based around things like a web site, video, any sort of data, graphics like pictures and many other things such as a blog. Also, optical media, CD’s, DVD’s, scanning technology and many more are a part of multimedia. An example of multimedia would be a video advert on the TV promoting a product. The purpose of multimedia would be to have a broader range of reaching the customer and gaining more popularity and also being a well-known company or business. The source for multimedia is internal because all the video’s, web sites, CD’s and other technology is created in a certain sector within the business or the company.
Web-Based Simply, web-based is a business, a sole trader and any other individual that wants to have their own web site on the wide web. Furthermore, web-based can be defined as Tesco creating a web site with their products to sell through the internet which would make them a web-based organization as well as they would have shops that you can go to and physically purchase goods. Whereas, on a website you click on the product you want to buy and pay with your credit card. An example of web-based information would be a web-site of a business that offers deliveries of their groceries or other products to the customer’s door. The purpose of the web-based information is to have a broader range of being able to help the customer by having web-sites that will help a customer with broken or smashed items they bought as well as, services such as home delivery. The source of the web-based information is internal because all the web-site/s are owned by the company or business and they work within the business or the company which means that the web-site is stored in an IT sector in the company.

...P1 In this initial stage of the assignment I will be explaining types of information that Samsung have and use within their business. Due to the fact that Samsung sell such a wide variety of products I will be narrowing it down to their Mobile Phones department in order to make sure focus can be kept on one particular area. There are two main types of business information, internal and external. Internal: The first key source of internal information is financial data, this is used to analyse the performance of the business as it can give a clear indication as to where the business sits in the market when compared to its competitors. This is good for Samsung due to the fact that they can look at their sales data and then see how they are performing when compared to companies such as Apple or Sony. Financial data typically consists of profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, cash flow forecasts and also the costs that the business incurs just to name a few. All of these collectively are able to put the business performance into a quantifiable figure. The Sales department of a business aims to gather information about the customers as well as the Sales records from previous years. The sales data can be placed either in the financial area or the sales area but typically a business will use this information twice as they can gather different results from this information. Samsung can use sales data in order to gain an idea of how popular their mobile devices...
