Both spanned volumes and striped volumes utilize storage space of 2 to 32 disks. The difference between the two is that spanned volumes fill up the space on one disk at a time, while striped volumes write one strip at a time to each disk in sequence. The return on investment (ROI) refers to measuring how effectively a company’s advertising will reach their market and achieve a certain profit in comparison to the amount of effort and capital required to so. Companies want to receive the highest ROI possible(28-29,37-38). We have gone from simple ads in print, to radio commercials, to TV commercials and now the internet. The price of commercials has risen and a large percentage of print ads have been replaced with internet ads. Because of the many changes that have taken place within advertising and media there is no longer a consistent model for determining audience value across the vast communication vehicles we currently use for advertising today. Since each communication outlet has its own challenge for measuring its audience response, the ROI has become...

Minimum Efficient Scale, Tarrifs of Automobile Industries

...Box4.4 Case Studies and Applications p111-112 Minimum efficient scale 1) Why might a firm operating with one plant achieve MEPS and yet not be large enough to achieve MES? A firm that operates with one plant may only achieve minimum efficient plant size (MEPS) instead of minimum efficient scale (MES) in accordance to the size of the firm. This can be reasoned that the individual plant is not large enough comparing to a firm that operates with several plants. An individual factory can be categorized as a Short-run production, since it is only one factory, expanding the factory or building more factories will be considered as Long-run. Thus, the individual factory (one plant) of the firm is a fixed factor and the inputs are variable factors. The only way to expand firm production is to increase the outputs by increasing variable factors such as materials and labour. This process will lead to a similar theory of “economies of scale” consumption in the short-run period. MES will be relatively larger than MEPS in terms of production of outputs through this process. The example below will show why one plant cannot achieve MES, but instead only MEPS. Take the case of an Orange juice production firm with a single factory: The Variable factors include the number of workers and oranges (input), and the fixed factor is the factory itself. In order to increase output, the firm needs to increase the number of workers and oranges. The “economies of scale” will occur when oranges from...

Written Workplace Communication

...Effective communication report Good news communication medium recommendation Michael Matral - 5836921 ELA- Kate Wilkie Introduction Effective written communication serves as a vital tool in any business but particularly small business. It helps to foster a good working relationship between management and staff, which can in turn improve morale, productivity and efficiency (Grinder and McMaster, 1993, p12). When communicating a good news message, the receiver needs to clearly understand what the good news is and why it happened. This can be achieved in varying levels of detail via the use of the appropriate communication medium. This report will examine 3 of these mediums and which situation is best for their use, that being email, verbal/AV presentation and posters. Recommendations for the most appropriate medium for this message will be made at the end of this report. Analysis Skills associated with verbal communication such the words chosen or the tone used are also important when communicating messages especially those of an urgent, important or sensitive nature. Professional messages avoid the use of Instant Messaging contractions such as ‘LOL’, ‘ROFL’ or slang like ‘totes’ (Markel, 2012, p101), but this doesn't mean a cold serious tone either. ...story and is also performed on stage. In addition, drama is similar to plays in that it has a theme, a plot and is often narrated by a persona (Ghent, 2012, 629). Also, drama is also known as a play in that it evokes emotions and has a tone just like a play. During my high school days, the school invited a group of people who performed a play on HIV/AIDs. This was my initial time to timepiece a live stage performance. The characters perfectly represented their roles in that the audience felt as if the characters were real. For example, those characters representing HIV patients appeared weak and sad; the sounds were full of sympathy as they spoke. Every scene had its own sounds that paralleled the theme and purpose of the act (Meyer, 2011, p111). There were cries, mourns and even sounds of desperation. Throughout the drama, the audience was full of sad mood. HIV/AIDs infection was presented as something that people should be afraid of. The audience was also filled with pity and sympathy for the infected characters. Since it was my first encounter to see a live stage drama, the theme, scenes and characters were a great impact to my life and my understanding of what entails a drama. For a elongated time I had wished to be involved in a dramatic act until one day, my literature teacher appointed me and other colleagues to practice for a drama known as 'A Doll's House' that would be presented during the school’s parents day. My character was Nora, I was the protagonist. At first,...

Nature vs Nurture in Twins

...Nature vs. Nurture in Twins Stephanie A Anderson Western Governors University WGU Student ID# 000257288 Nature vs. Nurture in Twins Many studies are being done on twins and the difference between genetics vs. environment. Many studies are done on monozygotic twins as well as dizygotic twins. Monozygotic (MZ) twins are known as identical twins because they are from one egg that is fertilized and splits into two genetically identical halves, which continue to grow as twins. If there are any additional splitting of the zygote it leads to triplets, quadruplets etc. In Dizygotic (DZ) twins, also known as fraternal twins, there are two eggs that are fertilized by two different sperm, essentially making two babies at once that are genetically different but similar like other siblings. (Wheelwright, 2004) There are many differences between identical twins and fraternal twins such as fraternal twins can be of opposite sex. It is very rare for identical twins to be different sexes since they are split from the same zygote. (Wheelwright, 2004) Identical twins share 100% of their genetics and fraternal twins about 50%. (Horwitz, Videon, Schmitz, Davis, 2003) Identical twins do have the same DNA and the same fingerprints. Although there are now genetic tests that can find minor differences in the DNA of identical twins, they are still considered genetically identical. (Wheelwright, 2004) With all the studies that have been done over the years with sets of twins, they are...
