At Costa Coffee when applying for a job you have to have specific skills such as…
Employability skills: can be defined as the transferable skills needed by an individual to make them 'employable'. Along with good technical understanding and subject knowledge, employers often outline a set of skills that they want from an employee.
Interpersonal skills: The skills used by a person to properly interact with others. In the business domain, the term generally refers to an employee's ability to get along with others while getting the job done.
Personal skills: are those concerned with how people manage and express themselves. They are revealed in those attitudes and behaviours people bring to their work, study and daily activities.
The job I have chosen to write about is being a Costa Baristas which is a person that makes and serves coffee to the general public.
Costa Coffee require employability, personal and communication skills when it comes to working on the public view in the shop and serving customers; Costa coffee except a high level of interpersonal skills and a high level of spoken English when communicating with other members of staff and the general public this is needed because the public differ from person to person and having strong interaction skills help the staff and customers to work alongside one an another very well.
Employability skills that Costa Coffee require are experience working in a busy working environment but you don’t need to understand the sales or the functions of the business, if you are unable to make coffee Costa send you on a 3 day course to learn the techniques of making fine coffee for the public.
Another employability skill Costa coffee require is a good understanding of the range of coffee’s and which ones they recommend to the general public/customer this is needed as it’s a form of verbal advertisement.
Interpersonal skills that costa require are good communication skills and team working skills with the general public and members of staff this is required as it is extremely important to have a good relationship with members of staff so your business runs smoothly as possible.
Personal skills Costa require are a positive attitude and a high standard of customer service ‘serve with a smile’ technique this creates a happier atmosphere in the work place for the worker and Costa coffee’s customers.

Employability and personal skills Costa coffee require when recruiting and retaining existing staff is very important because when the candidate becomes a member of staff there is a high level of personal skills and employability skills required.
The employability skills required by Costa are a past experience in a fast working environment and a wide variety of careers working with the general public. Another employability skill is being flexible when working in costa is a must you have to work hours and days you may not want to work but being flexible gives you the upper hand of being promoted or hired.
The personal skills required at Costa coffee is co-operation as working with the staff and customers make a more successful future, working together helps the business run smoothly when in a busy environment. Another personal skill is listening when serving customers having listening skills help to keep the shop in order, makes the customer feel that they are important and that you also don’t come across rude if you ignore the customer, also when talking to members of staff listening is key to not miss-hear important information.
Personal and employability skills are extremely important in Costa coffee, you as a member of staff must work to your best ability and use all your skill effectively, the most important skill required is experience when applying for a job this is the key feature any employer is looking for because if you have experience they do not waste money on training and lose money if you make mistakes while working in the coffee shop. For example an employer has to compare two candidates A and B, candidate A has experience and a good level of spoken English and has a little knowledge of the business where as candidate B has no experience but a higher level of spoken English and no knowledge of the business, so the employer would hire candidate A because of experience and knowledge as they have worked in busy working environment and the business would save money because they would not have to train the new member of staff.
Another skill that is important is people skills when in an interview if you come across as polite and presentable you have a higher chance of getting the job and when working with public you must always be well spoken in a casual way but never rude or disrespectful always make sure you are polite and smile.
The least important skill that would not be needed for Costa would be computer skills as when working as a coffee maker. Having computer skills and applying for a job in Costa you may want to apply for a different sector such as human resources or sales.
