Pablita Velarde was a native american who was part of the Santa Clara Pueblo. She is known for all of her beautiful artwork. She painted all sorts of things such as animals,mammals,genre,human activity,indians, and native americans. She was born in Santa Clara on September 19th, 1918. She died in Albuquerque on January 12th,2006. her born name is Tse Tsan which means golden dawn.She was 87 years old when she died. Her zodiac sign is the virgo which is some kind of angel. When she was three years old her mother died of tuberculosis. She fell ill and went blind then she miraculously got it back.In a 1979 interview she said, "Painting was not considered women's work in my time. Pablita Velarde is also known for her publication, Old Father Storyteller. The stories came from her grandfather and great-grandfather. Velarde illustrated the stories with natural earth tone paintings. The stories reflect aspects of the Tewa worldview. t times in her life Velarde worked a variety of jobs including nanny and switchboard operator. She married Herbert Hardin in 1941 and shortly after, Hardin was drafted to fight in World War II.She was the daughter of Marianita Chavarria and Herman Velarde of Santa Clara. She was also the mother of Helen Hardin. She attended the Santa Fe Indian School in 1936, and became a teacher, lecturer, author, illustrator and painter. In 1956, Pablita began her unique earth painting made from ground up colored rocks, then mixed with glue and applied to masonite. Pablita drew heavily from her pueblo past.
