1. For starter, Jane should arrive at least an hour, not a half an hour, before her shift that way she has more time to deal with these problems. Next she should call other employees and see if she can get someone to come in and work the cashier and the dish washer positions. After she tries calling, then she should look at the employees she has scheduled to work and see if any of them are cross trained to work cashier. If not, she should be cross trained in that area and will have to work the cashier position. Dishwashing is not as complicated as cashiering can be therefore, other employees and even Jane herself could be able to help with the dishes during the break before they start to serve lunch. 2. She should try to save the food to the best of her ability by moving the items to another refrigerator while the non-working one is being fixed. If they have to keep food in that refrigerator they should try to not open the refrigerator door as much in order to keep the coldness inside. When transferring and saving the food she should prioritize the food in order of what she needs to use first and what she needs to use that day. If the food is measured above the 40 degree safety then unfortunately it should be discarded. Food in unsafe temperatures can create food born illnesses and will get the students sick. 3. Concerning the ice shortage she should first check for other sources of ice that may be on campus. If she can’t find any ice on campus then she should send a staff member to the local convenience store to purchase ice. 4. Jane should first call other bakeries and see if they can deliver the desserts. If not then she should call the president and apologize for the undelivered desserts. Let the president know about the mix up that was the bakery’s fault. Ask the president what his second choice would be or suggest some alternative

Email: srieh@excitehome.net In the Web, making judgments of information quality and authority is a difficult task for most users because overall, there is no quality control mechanism. This study examines the problem of the judgment of information quality and cognitive authority by observing people’s searching behavior in the Web. Its purpose is to understand the various factors that influence people’s judgment of quality and authority in the Web, and the effects of those judgments on selection behaviors. Fifteen scholars from diverse disciplines participated, and data were collected combining verbal protocols during the searches, search logs, and post-search interviews. It was found that the subjects made two distinct kinds of judgment: predictive judgment and evaluative judgment. The factors influencing each judgment of quality and authority were identified in terms of characteristics of information objects, characteristics of sources, knowledge, situation, ranking in search output, and general assumption. Implications for Web design which will effectively support people’s judgments of quality and authority are also discussed. ...Analysis of CK and the K Family Jane Doe Introduction Family nursing is a fairly new concept relative to the history of nursing practice. With any type of nursing process, assessment is the first (and ongoing) part of the process, followed by care planning and intervention. In delivering comprehensive care, the nurse must incorporate assessment of the family unit, or lack there-of, associated with the identified patient. Many family assessment tools have been devised to assist the nurse in gathering accurate data while opening up lines of communication and reflection for all members involved in the process. Selection of the appropriate tool for the identified family is crucial. Effective tools must be easy to administer in a fairly short amount of time and the data collected needs to be immediately available and useable. Family members need to see the relevance of the information gathered, and how it assists in improvement of their care- ideally soon after discussion, either by the nurse or a clinician. An initial interview and follow up discussion with the K family was completed over the course of 3 sessions. The first encounter involved only the identified patient (IP). The second was the remainder of the family, and a third was with CK’s perceived family. The intermediary role of securities analysts Daniel Beunza and Raghu Garud Introduction As Wall Street specialists in valuation, sell-side securities analysts constitute a particularly important class of market actor.1 Analysts produce the reports, recommendations and price targets that professional investors utilize to inform their buy and sell decisions, which means that understanding analysts’ work can provide crucial insights on the determinants of value in the capital markets. Yet our knowledge of analysts is limited by insufficient attention to Knightian uncertainty. Analysts estimate the value of stocks by calculating their net present value or by folding the future back into the present. In so doing, they are faced with the fundamental challenge identified by Frank Knight, that is, with the difficulty of making decisions that entail a future that is unknown. These decisions, as Knight wrote, are characterized by ‘neither entire ignorance nor complete . . . information, but partial knowledge’ of the world (Knight, [1921] 1971: 199). The finance literature has not examined the Knightian challenge faced by analysts. Indeed, existing treatments circumvent the problem by adopting one of two extreme positions. Malter ABSTRACT Strategic alliances play a critical role in global innovation. Firms can overcome resource constraints and achieve superior innovative performance not only by using internal resources but also by acquiring knowledge-based capabilities from alliance partners. In this study, the authors investigate how knowledge acquired from alliance partners affects organizational knowledge creation, which in turn leads to innovative performance. The authors propose that the knowledge–innovation relationship is stronger in international alliances than domestic alliances. The results from a survey of 127 German firms engaged in strategic alliances confirm that knowledge creation mediates the effect of knowledge acquisition on innovative performance and that international alliances strengthen the effect of knowledge creation on innovative performance. In addition, the authors find that interfirm cooperation and competition coexist in strategic alliances and that both factors increase knowledge acquisition, though from different motivational bases.
