Tatlong Mukha: the Review

...Tatlong Mukha: The Review Tatlong Mukha is a story of love, friendship and the search for true happiness. The flow of the story is revolving to the three main characters naming Jake, Miguel and Mimi/Greg. Jake was a stealthy homosexual and has a passionate love for his friend Miguel. Mimi was also Jake’s friend the one who knows everything about Jake. Miguel treated Jake as one of his best friends. The play commenced with three unrenowned characters that portrayed different kind of emotions; overjoyed, miserable sadness and undisputable anger. The main characters of the story carried different kinds of feelings and strong emotions. The story began by portraying the character of Jake, a typical guy who is hiding his true identity of being a homosexual. He was visited by his friend Mimi who is trying hard in winning the crown on gay pageants, borrowing a gown for his next pageant. They find theirselves helping one another when Jake thought about Miguel’s visit in his house and planning to pretend again as straight guys. Miguel is a true and thoughtful friend for Jake. He considered Jake as his brother and close to his heart without knowing that Jake is gay and secretly in love with him. Mimi was the most interesting character in the story. I can say that he undeniably gave the well-off entertainment value. He surpassed his role to a very tickling and amusing character. He made his audience gone wild and crazy by his innate ability in entertaining people. I can say that Tatlong...

Is Childhood Disappearing?

...childhood. Is Childhood disappearing? Introduction I am interested in this subject area because childhood is a social construct which seems to be diminishing from society. This is of particular interest to me because childhood as we know it has only been about for the last century but now it seems that it is once again diminishing from society. I say this because when looking at childhood from 50 years ago and comparing it to childhood today there is a huge difference. Today toys seem to be targeted at children of ages 1-10 years old but not for children above that age (Manhattan Institute for Policy Research). Children seem to be pushed into the spotlight of adult activities such as the fashion and glamour world in the case of beauty pageants (Daily Mail Online 2011). There also seems to be more of a focus on older children playing on computer consoles with violent games which depict realistic and gruesome actions. These computer games also depict real life situations such as the war in Afghanistan and give these older children the opportunity to play as a soldier in this scenario. Content What is childhood? Childhood is not to be confused with being a child, it is a completely different idea altogether. In modern day society, childhood is a social construct which is not seen as a natural or biological stage of life, but as being created out of the idealism of socio-cultural values. This creation is shown in the way that children are taught to behave, how to dress, and...

What Makes People Attractive to Others?

...What Makes People Attractive to Others? The definition of “attractive” from Dictionary.com is “…providing pleasure or delight, especially in appearance or manner; pleasing; charming; alluring; arousing interest.” What makes someone attractive to another person is different for everyone. It could be a look or smell, or the way someone laughs. As a young woman in college, I have met many men to whom I have been attracted. What makes a person attractive? One thing is for certain, it will not be the same reason for any two people. Attraction is not universal. One woman may think Johnny Depp is gorgeous and another may think there is no one uglier, which is why we as a society frequently say, “Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder.” Stereotypes, too, can effect one’s perception of what or who is attractive. If you fit into certain stereotypes it can broaden one’s appeal to some, while decreasing one’s appeal to others. Media, movies and television have caused stereotypes to explode throughout the world. If we believe what we see and hear, then skinny, beautiful women are the only ones who get boyfriends. Guys with “six pack” abs and great hair are the only ones who get girlfriends. When we see this over and over in movies, television, and advertising, we start to believe it is true. So, people start going on diets because one never sees a chubby girl or guy walking down the runway, or getting the guy or girl in the end. Girls start wearing more makeup to cover up perfectly beautiful...

Allegory and Irony in 'Othello' Antoinette B. Dauber

...ALLEGOR AND IRONY IN 'OTHELLO' Y ANTOINETT B. DAUBER E Othello is Shakespeare's Spenserian tragedy, in which the theme of slandere d chastity becomes a vehicle for exploring the problems of an allegorica l art . Allegory is the mode of selfconscious faith, and Spenser's corpus may be rea d as a portrai t of the artis t as allegorist , wrestling first with the burdens of selfconsciousness and then with the burdens of faith.l In Othello, Shakespeare compresses and objectifies this struggle. Unlike Spenser, he is not committed to the maintenance of allegory, and so he freely dramatizes the interna l weaknesses and external onslaughts that lead to its destruction. What I am calling the 'Spenserian ' quality begins with the chivalric elements in the tragedy. Truly, Othello is a kind of Savage Knight, Desdemona, the absolutely, almost miraculously, worthy lady, and Iago, something of a manipulator like Archimago.2 But more particularl y I would call attention to a specific engagement with Spenserian rhetoric . Consider Cassio' s words of welcome to the disembarking Desdemona: Tempests themselves, high seas, and howling winds, The gutter'd rocks and congregated sands, Traitors ensteep'd to enclog the guiltless keel, As having sense of beauty, do omit Their mortal natures, letting go safely by The divine Desdemona. (2.1.68-73)3 He sets her in the line of Spenser's heavenly allegories . As a parallel , we may recal l Una , slandere d by the arch-magician , abandone d by 123 her...

...Abstract Visionary leadership, culture of accountability, affinity for risk, and strategic agility are all key characteristics of a High Performance Organization (HPO). A visionary leader is one who inspires the team to move towards the vision and creates strategic momentum through connection between strategy and those who deliver it on the front line. In a High Performance Organization, leaders are aware and realize how accountability must be paired with authority for maximal results. Outstanding leaders that have the ability to orchestrate organizational change often utilize a high degree of motivation. The president of K.I.S.S. Entertainment was a new leader who lacked the knowledge on how to successfully lead and motivate her team. The company developed great concepts and implemented new ideas where it was expected for the company to generate a sufficient amount of revenue. As time progressed and the work became overwhelming, the team began to become lackadaisical resulting in deprivation of execution. This paper inspects K.I.S.S. Entertainment as a company, identifies the problems with their leadership, and suggests solutions to rectify the issues with becoming a High Performance Organization as the outcome.   K.I.S.S. ..."THE COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE REVOLUTION" Nine Transforming Keys to Lowering Costs, Cutting Waste, and Driving Change in the Broken Construction Industry. Authors: Rex Miller, Dean Strombom, Mark Immarino & Bill Black. Chapter 2 What Every Executive Needs to Know About Low-Bid Contracting All too often projects suffer because the design and construction team are cobbled together for the first time and have no expectation of ever being together in the future. Worse still, most of them will have been selected on a lowest price basis, where profit margins have been squeezed to the bone and the only way of making a decent profit may well be through claims against other team members, or against the client. —Clive Thomas Cain, Profitable Partnering for Lean Construction The 2004 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team should have won the gold medal. They were the best players on the planet. They all wanted to win gold; they had strong incentives and the pride of representing their country. Yet the team failed. In 2008, the U.S. team—great players with strong incentives and the pride of representing their country on the world stage—did bring home the gold. The difference wasn’t in the varying skills of the individual team members, but in the 1 What Every Executive Needs to Know About Low-Bid Contracting 2 specific kind of leadership provided by Coach Mike Krzyzewski. In picking players for his team, he invested a great deal of time considering not only individual talents...

...potential but thought it needed reworking. With her editor, Lee spent two and a half more years revising the manuscript. By 1960 the novel was published. In a 1961 interview with Newsweek magazine, Lee commented: Writing is the hardest thing in the world, . . . but writing is the only thing that has made me completely happy. To Kill a Mockingbird was an immediate and widespread success. Within a year, the novel sold half a million copies and received the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Within two years, it was turned into a highly acclaimed film. Readers admire the novel’s sensitive and probing treatment of race relations. But, equally, they enjoy its vivid account of childhood in a small rural town. Summing up the novel’s enduring impact in a 1974 review, R. A. Dave called To Kill a Mockingbird . . . a movingly human drama of the jostling worlds—of children and adults, of innocence and experience, of kindness and cruelty, of love and hatred, of humor and pathos, and above all of appearance and reality—all taking the reader to the root of human behavior. For almost four decades, Harper Lee has declined to comment on her popular—and only—novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, preferring instead to let the novel speak for itself. Today, the novel continues to delight and inspire millions of readers. [A writer] should write about what he knows and...

Tempest Information

...This is a good article. Click here for more information. The Tempest From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from The tempest) This article is about the Shakespeare play. For other uses, see The Tempest (disambiguation). The shipwreck in Act I, Scene 1, in a 1797 engraving by Benjamin Smith after a painting by George Romney The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1610–11, and thought by many critics to be the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone. It is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio's lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso's son, Ferdinand. There is no obvious single source for the plot of The Tempest, but researchers have seen parallels in Erasmus's Naufragium, Peter Martyr's De orbe novo, and eyewitness reports by William Strachey and Sylvester Jordain of the real-life shipwreck of the Sea Venture on the islands of Bermuda, and the subsequent conflict between Sir Thomas Gates and Sir George Somers. In addition, one of Gonzalo's speeches is derived from Montaigne's essay Of the Canibales, and much of Prospero's renunciative speech is taken...
