Man-kind first made art during the Stone Age, but it evolved drastically as the periods moved from Paleolithic era to Neolithic era. The methods for making art became more varied as apparatuses were established and people learned to make artistries, such as pottery. While it is assumed that both Paleolithic and Neolithic people made art for ritualized purposes, this intention was more obvious during Neolithic times. Both Paleolithic and Neolithic are marvelous time periods, but it all depends on the admirers love of paintings, cave drawings, and sculpture styles.

Paleolithic era also made small sculptures most famous is Venus of Willendorf. Tiny rock statues of expecting women may bring to mind worship of fruitfulness or nature. This art has been found of Siberia, Northern Africa, and Europe. Paleolithic cave art, discovered in the 1860s by a French paleontologist named Edouard Lartet, mainly in southern France and northern Spain. People in paintings were portrayed as twig figures. The purpose of these objects from the Paleolithic period are identified with ancient worships. In addition, they ornamented the walls of their cave homes with pictures of animals, including mammoths, bison, and deer. The animals in the Lascaux caves are detailed and demonstrate live animals painted accurately. Shading in the pictures highlighted the forms of the animals and made them appear more authentic. Researchers do know a little more about these particular paintings, they believe that they were part of a ceremonial function like showing respect to a divine being. Neolithic painting were much different from the Paleolithic period. For example, Neolithic paintings frequently illustrated the human form. The human figure is also represented in a more revealing abnormal position, involving both an anterior and a silhouette view, rather than just a side profile. Also, the people and animals are presented in crowds rather than just individuals. Drawings of this era often told accounts of their daily lives, rather than just being portraits.
