...advertising was still regarded as a primary medium of advertising, when billboard operators and owners organized themselves into one, cohesive and solid voice. Thus, on AUGUST 13, 1964, the OUTDOOR ADVERTISING ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILS. (OAAP) was formed. Its purpose was to promote growth of outdoor advertising in the Philippines by establishing its own Code of Ethics. In 1974, OAAP was placed under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Council for Print Media (“PCPM”) under the late General Hans Menzi as per Presidential Decree No. 576. This decree provides PCPM the authority to set rules and regulations for the discipline of all mass media under its supervision. In 1976, the Metro Manila Governor, Imelda Marcos, in line with her cleanliness and beautification drive, decided to demolish all billboards especially movie ads and neon signs along Roxas Boulevard and Luneta. In May 1974, OAAP became one of the charter members of the Philippine Board of Advertising now called the Advertising Board of the Philippines (ADBOARD). ADBOARD, being the mother and umbrella association of nine (9) member-associations such as OAAP, PANA, 4As, ASAP, UPMG, IBA, MORES, KBP and CAAP, also has its own Standards of Trade Practices and Conduct representing the trade practices from various advertising sectors, with which OAAP is the only recognized outdoor advertising association. ...Business Ethics (Supplementary Lecture Notes) Mr. Joel C. Porras “Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actios, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, they beconme your destiny.” ANONYMOUS Preliminary Notions: A. Etymological: The word ethics comes from the Greek word “ethos” ,meaning : custom, a habitual way of acting character, a meaning that the Latin terms “mos” , “moris” also connote. Among the Greeks , “ethics” meant what concerns human conduct/human action. B. Descriptive: Largely a concern of cultural anthropologists and sociologists. Its task is to describe how some person, members of a culture or society address all sorts of moral issues, what customs they have, and so, how they are accustomed to behave. C. Met-ethics: Concerns itself with the meanings of moral terms: like good and bad, right and wrong, duties and rights, etc. Hence the concern is with the understanding of the use of these terms, their logical forms and the objects to which they refer. Sometimes the concern of meta-ethicist is even more fundamental: What is the possibility of moral philosophy. D. Normative: Ethics is normative, not in the way that logic is, namely. With regard to the correctness of our thinking, but with regard to the goodness of our living, the right orientation of our existence. It is a practical science, not simply because it treats human action,...

...RENAISSANCE LEADERSHIP Transforming Leadership for the 21st Century J. Martin Hays and Choule Youn Kim THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY Key Words: |Leadership |Management Education |Future Trends | |Leadership Development |The New Millennium |Leadership Competencies | ABSTRACT Conventional leaders and leadership of the past are insufficient to meet the demands of the 21st Century. As we enter the new millennium, our world is characterised by unprecedented complexity, paradox, and unpredictability. Change is rapid and relentless. Today’s leaders face demands unlike any ever before faced. Standard leadership approaches that have served us well throughout much of history are quickly becoming liabilities. Conventional wisdom regarding leadership and many of its habits must be unlearned. The strong, decisive, charismatic, and independent leader and leadership we have idealised, strived to be, depended upon, and longed for may prove counter-productive in the new millennium and undermine a sustainable future. The challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century call for a new type of leader and leadership, indeed an entirely new and different way of thinking about leadership and of developing future leaders. This paper explores the nature of the nascent millennium and the leader and leadership qualities and capabilities...
