Hello Professor and Classmates:
Topic #2

When we speak of breast examinations, you must first do a self-evaluation of yourself. Begin by observing your breasts in the mirror along with your shoulders straight and your arms on your hips. Look for breast that square measure their usual size, shape and color or breast that square measure equally formed while not visible distortion or swelling. If you observe any dimpling, puckering, bulging of the skin, redness, soreness rash or swelling, you should contact your doctor immediately. Second you want to raise your arms and look for similar changes in appearance. Then when you are at the mirror, look for any signs of fluid commencing in each nipple which may be watery, milky, yellow fluid or blood. Next feel your breast whereas lying down, exploitation your hand to feel your left breast and then your right breast. Use a firm swish bit with the primary few finger pads of your hand while keeping fingers flat along and use a circular motion. Cover the whole breast from prime to bottom, aspect to aspect — from your bone to the highest of your abdomen, and from your cavum to your cleavage. Follow a pattern to make sure that you simply cowl the full breast. You’ll be able to begin at the reproductive organ, taking possession larger and bigger circles till you reach the periphery of the breast. You’ll be able to additionally move your fingers up and down vertically, in rows, as if you were mowing a field. This up-and-down approach looks to figure best for many ladies. Make sure to feel all the tissue from the front to the rear of your breasts: for the skin and tissue simply below, use light-weight pressure; use medium pressure for tissue within the middle of your breasts; use firm pressure for the deep tissue within the back. Health Promotioin in Cervical Cancer

...Health Promotion in Cervical Cancer A literature review Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women worldwide (WHO, 2010a). The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates that about 12,200 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and 4,120 women will die of the disease (ACS, 2010). Cervical cancer is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), but has an almost 100% survival rate if caught early enough. Although national incidence rates have declined, there are still a disproportionate number of cases amongst African-American and Hispanic women. In the United States, various health organizations are attempting to deal with the cultural barriers to the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cervical cancer. Three journal articles were reviewed to examine current nursing strategies for health promotion as related to cervical cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health promotion as “the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health” (Ottawa charter for health promotion, as cited in WHO, 2010b). Health promotion strategies focus on eliciting lifestyle changes and promoting positive personal choices among individuals, families, and communities. Health promotion is a key element of primary prevention of disease (Leavell & Clark, as cited in Edelman & Mandel, 2010). Guardasil (Merck & Co., Inc.), the HPV vaccination, is the primary preventative tool that...

Health and Wellness

...Health and Wellness in Native North America It is true that many of the old ways have been lost. But just as the rains restore the earth after a drought, so the power of the Great Mystery will restore the way and give it new life. We ask that this happen not just for the Red People, but for all people, that they all might live. Black Elk, Oglala, Sioux Contemporary health status of American Indians can be best viewed through the lens of various federal policies enacted over the past 500 years. These policies were developed largely in response to dramatic population losses among the indigenous peoples of America, resulting from genocidal actions of military campaigns, the lack of immunity to the diseases that accompanied European colonizers, and the assimilation efforts that destroyed tribal structures and wellness practices. Medical services were first coordinated through army physicians in the Department of War in an effort to control the spread of diseases from early reservation sites placed on or near military forts. By the twentieth century, the rapid decline of the Indigenous population, documented by the “Meriam Report” of 19281 prompted new assimilation efforts to save the first Americans. Healthcare services were re-coordinated within the Bureau of Indian Affairs and then into the Public Health Service, finally resting within the Federal Indian Health Service (IHS). Assimilation policies, however, proved to be highly destructive resulting in the...

The zip code community of 53218 is no exception. Some of those positive features of the 53218 community has prospective features such as its existing available clinics, multipurpose community centers, such as the Silver Spring Community Center, and numerous outreach programs through organizations including Growing Power and the Milwaukee Outreach Center. Unfortunately, it is still considered one of ten zip codes in the Milwaukee County designated in the “lower socioeconomic status” group as reported in the Milwaukee Health Report (Chen, et al., 2011). The lower SES group, including 53218, as a whole is at risk for (1) a growing rate of obesity related to a poor nutritional lifestyle, (2) a continually decreasing gynecological health among the female population between ages 12 and 19 related to a lack of enforced education and rising teen pregnancy-related issues, and (3) a consistently low level of neighborhood safety related to motor vehicle accidents and rising crime rates. Community Strengths The community of 53218 has three main areas of strength: (1) several available clinics, (2) an abundance...
