...Question 1 Tekst 1: the text “police back new law on killer dogs” by Jamie Doward, is about one police officer who has demanded a change to the law of dangerous dogs because of the dog attack on a five-year-old girl, Ellie Lawrenson. From their point of view the law about dangerous dogs are unclear, outdated and it needs to be renovated. This change of law would not only intentionally target the dogs but more the owners of these dangerous dogs. The man behind this idea is Bernard Hogan-Howe, who reached the decision together with the chief constables. The Kennel Club is pushing for a reform of the dangerous dog law because of the confusion about the Dangerous Dogs Act. They do not want people to see dogs dangerous because of their breed, but based their actions. The Kennel Club’s spokeswoman made a state that “pit bulls have certain traits but in the hands of responsible owners they would not be a danger. The act hasn’t worked; it’s failed to prevent a significant number of attacks. “ Which the RSPCA spokesman agrees with the Kennel Club. Text 2: The text “Jail owners of killer dogs” by Victoria Stilwell, she is against breed-specific legislation, People should stop judging the dog immediately when something this terrible happens, it is not the dog’s fault, the owner should stand with the whole responsibility. The only thing it takes for people to see that, is just a little bit of sense. People make rational decisions like calling for bans on certain...

...Howe thinks that the law about dangerous dog should be changed. Any dog could be aggressive and attack a person, it depends on how the owners raised it. And it is very hard to say witch dog is a pit-bull, because it could likely be half pit-bull, and if it only half pit-bull should it be put down? It is hard to know the difference. So it is “deed not breed” when the dog has done something wrong it is the owners fault, because they have not raised the dog right. It is only after the dogs that have done something wrong they should be punished, likes humans do. In text 2 Victoria Stilwell says that you should think about getting a dog, especially if you have kids. She does not think small children should be alone with any dog, because their line of vision is lower than adults and dog sees that as a threat. This is not fair to the dog, because it does not understand it. Victoria says that, if you want a dog, do not buy it from any other than a licensed breeders and dog rescue homes, and be sure that the dog is right for you and your family. In text 3 Simon Heffer means that behind every dangerous dog there is a dangerous human. The police is not doing enough about the criminals in the lower class of the society. The lower class have gotten out of control, the kids does not go to school, but get in to the criminal life style such as picking a career like drug dealing and theft. In that neighborhood death is a common thing and having and illegal dog is not something the police...

...because they attack people, attack other dogs, is it because they just look scary or is it because of perspective?? Pit-bulls are no different to other dogs so saying pit-bulls should be banned is like saying all medium to large breeds of dog should be gone. Think about what it's like to have something so meaningful to you taken away for life. This is a feeling pit bull owners endure everyday as their dogs are banned and killed solely on the fact that they are pit bulls. Pit bull banning is extremely wrong because they are harshly punished for no particular reason. There are many pieces of misinformation about them, and this can all be changed if we could only make good alternative decisions. The banning of pit bulls has finally come around after the attempt to ban German Shepard's in the 70's and Doberman Pinschers in the 80's. After these two breeds won the battle against banning, the law looked at the next positioned 'most dangerous dog'....

...profiling and as of yet it has not worked to curb the amount of serious dog attacks it was put in place to stop” (pitbulllovers, 2007). Breed Specific Legislation, or BSL are a set of laws that restricts breeds of dog or completely bans the breed from an area. BSL has banned the American Pit Bull Terrier from multiple states in America, and even some European countries. In this essay I will prove the unnecessity of BSL. This essay will go more in depth on what BSL is all about, it will educate the readers about the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and the pit bull family as a whole, and it will provide possible alternatives. Breed Specific Legislation made its first notable appearance in 1984. “In 1984, a New Mexico town completely banned pit bulls and allowed county officers to confiscate and euthanize the dogs” (animallaw, 2007). BSL was made to try to regulate specific breeds of dogs. Usually, BSL targets breeds that are thought of as dangerous breeds. Proponents of BSL claim that BSL is a great way to reduce the threatening pit bull breed (animallaw, 2007). People who support BSL usually have imagined pit bulls as vicious dogs bred just to fight. BSL is slowly being seen as ineffective laws because leaders of communities are being educated more about pit bulls. Pit bulls are not necessarily a breed of dog. Pit bulls are a category of dogs more than a breed. Pit bull usually groups 3 breeds of dog, “the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire Terrier (AMSTAFF)...

...who are against breed specific legislation of the Pit Bull breeds will be presented. One argument they present is that all dogs can attack and cause fatalities. Pit Bulls attacks are the ones that are published in the media and bring a bad reputation to their name. The cases of other attacks are not highlighted in the media, which is why most individuals feel that Pit Bulls are the only breeds who attack others. Also, the behavior of those who do attack are often influenced by other factors, such as the environment they were raised in. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Jacks Russell’s, Spaniels, St. Bernard’s, and even Labrador retrievers have all been found to be highly represented in biting incidents (American Veterinary Medical Association). In defense of the higher amount of severe injury or fatalities being caused by Pit Bulls, there are other factors that need to be taken into account before the breed can be blamed. The breed may be popular in the victim’s community, and the dog’s treatment by...

...Engl 1121 13 Prof. Huebner Gloege Research Paper Draft 2 The Myths of Bully Breeds There is reason to believe that the bully breeds should be banned in America. Bully breeds are a category of dogs that consist of Bulldogs, Boxers Mastiffs, ect. I believe this opinion is unjust and completely ridiculous. The many breeds that fall into this category are many of the most popular breeds owned in homes across the country. These loving and loyal dogs are trying to escape the shadow of a bad reputation. In ancient Greece, the first category of bully breed was created. These strong headed dogs were called Molossers (Hart). Molossers are the ancestors of all bully breed dogs. They were larger dogs with thick muscular bodies, short necks and legs, medium sized diamond shaped ears, and short snouts (noses). Molossers were used for every day house guarding, livestock protection and also bull baiting. During bull baiting the dog would lay low to the ground, then when it had a clear shot, the dog would jump up and bite the bulls nose. The nose is the sensitive part of the bull. The bull would whip its head around and try to get the dog to let go. Many dogs were severely injured with broken bones and concussions but most dogs were killed. People back in this time found this amusing. Since the Molossers were used for bull baiting this is how they got the name “Bully Breeds.” The average dog in the category Bully Breeds, are larger dogs, although there are a few exceptions such as French...

...University April 9th , 2016 Dog lovers and professional trainers alike often say there is no such thing as bad dogs, only bad dog owners. Today, the dog that gets the most attention on this topic is the Pit Bull. "The Pit Bull wasn't always synonymous with being a bad dog, by nature, they are in fact very smart, fun loving, and affectionate, thus make great family dogs". (Delise, 2007). But every decade has its ‘bad dog'. Back in the Seventies, the Doberman was the tough guy's dog of choice. In the Eighties, it was the Rottweiler. Since the Nineties, it's been the Pit Bull. The problem is that it's maintained this image a lot longer than other tough dog breeds because they have what behaviorists call ‘a soft temperament.' This means that they are easy to handle and look a lot meaner than they are. There are different reasons why people acquire dogs. Some want a companion or family pet. But there are also people who want guard dogs and a dog that appeals to their dangerous image. "You can train a dog to do anything, even to be nasty and vicious, the biggest problem currently facing Pit Bulls is when people with the wrong intentions get one, they don't know what they are really getting into and can't be bothered with any training. That's when bad situations arise. And as a result, the dog lands in a shelter" (O'Heare, 2014). According to O'Heare (2014), anyone who has a dog has to consider himself or herself the dog's life coach. And if the dog shows any signs of misbehavior...

...Patrick Duffy GE 117 Final Paper The Doberman Pinscher: A Force to be Reckoned With The Doberman Pinscher was first bred with the intention to be the most lethal and efficient K9 known to man. The Doberman possesses the necessary characteristics to be a fierce guard dog, yet a loving companion. For these reasons, the Doberman has become much more popular in the last hundred years as the military, police, and residential population realize what a great addition the Doberman Pinscher can provide to your family. Unlike people who look at the Doberman as a friendly house pet, law enforcement along with breeders tend to search for Dobermans with full European descent in order to keep their Doberman's with the purest bloodline possible. A dog with such qualities can dominate by using great intelligence and energy, thus, allowing the use of Dobermans in many career fields today. The great success of the Doberman first began with it's origin in Apolda, Germany. The man, Louis Dobermann, had many jobs and often traveled through dangerous lands. In need of personal protection, Dobermann wanted to breed a dog with great loyalty and also with the ability to handle any threat that may arise. Therefore, Karl Dobermann experimented with the breeding of dogs such as the Greyhound, short-haired Shepherd, German Pinscher, Rottweiler, Beuceron, and the Manchester Terrier to produce what we now know as the Doberman Pinscher. ...

As the dean of students this past spring, this topic came up multiple times because of suspicions or reports from parents and students of drug use. We arranged for the K-9 unit at our school two different times this past spring. One time was for a search of bags that belonged to students who were packed and ready to go on an overnight trip with our Vo-ag student group. There were rumors and suspicions that drugs were coming with the students in their bags, so to make sure it did not...

...Learning Experience Paper: Arachnophobia Jason Gaston PSY103 (BSDD1GNEP9) 27 April 2015 Sandra Coswatte Learning Experience Paper: Arachnophobia This paper will discuss Arachnophobia which is the fear of spiders. It will describe how learning could have occurred through classical conditioning, how learning could have occurred through operant conditioning, it will also discuss the behavior, consequence, and reinforcement. The unconditioned stimulus, the unconditioned response, the conditioned stimulus, and the conditioned response will also be discussed. Arachnophobia, or fear of spiders, is under the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed., DSM-IV) classification of a specific phobia (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). This fear could have been brought on by many factors, for example having a spider crawl on your face while watching a movie, or having an aggressive spider protect it web by either, rearing back and showing its fangs or physically chase you away. The other option is that you were raised to fear spiders by other people saying they are dangerous and scary and to stay away. This irrational fear may been learned through classical conditioning with repeated pairing i.e. a parent a sees a spider a screams the infant will not see a spider and only here a scream so just thinks the parent is silly, the next day the infant the infant sees the spider but not the parent but hears a scream. Now the infant starts to make a connection...

... and a dog… what kind of animal trainer do you want to be? Animals are my go to for comfort after a long hard day. They are my shoulder to cry on, they carry my wait and my unbiased listener. I want a career that I will wake up every morning excited for what the day brings, not dreading the brain dead work that I would be presented with at a desk job. In the end an animal has never hurt me, I want to be able to give back to them. This paper will explore the job description, requirements and salary expectation for a Animal Trainer. To introduce, the job description, the job description for an Animal Trainer includes many components. First, the Occupational Handbook (OHB) provides the general duties of an Animal Trainer to help animals become familiar with animals with human voices, teach the animals to respond to commands and teach guide dogs how to help people with disabilities. Second, the Occupational Handbook provides the hours of an Animal Trainer will vary based on where they work. Examples of places that Animal Trainers can work are kennels, zoos and stables. Third, the OHB provides the working environment as being around the clock...

...Pit bulls being ‘vicious’ but are they really? Between good temperament, performing community acts of animal kindness, and opinions of people working in or adopting from shelters, pit bulls are very kind dogs. Pitbulls are just as or more well tempered than other dog breeds. One such temperament test, performed by the American Temperament Test Society, showed that pit bulls scored an overall 82% on the test which was better than 77% of all the breeds tested. In addition, a pit who is aggressive toward animals is extremely unlikely to attack humans next. Even if they do, it is likely from stress, pain, fear, being mentally or physically ill, or the human that was attacked was hurting someone else....

...shouldn’t let your children wonder off or let them out of your sight because it’s a dangerous place but it’s where my best childhood memories are. My cousin Donald lived in Hialeah. He lived in an apartment, where the roadways were filled with liter, beer bottles, cigarette buds, weed baggies, and blunt papers. The parking spaces were barely noticeable and the grass was almost as tall as me, but I saw this place and my home. The exterior was horrendous but the inside was magical. The kitchen was filled with all of our favorite foods, the dining room table was clean but you can still see the marker stains Donald and I left one day after trying to finish his project in a rush to go play outside, and instead of cleaning it like we should have we placed a mat to cover up the stain in the mean time which was never removed because it was too late. The living room was the place where we would build a castle with the couch pillows and watch wrestling while acting out each move, the living room always had a distinctive smell than any other room because it’s were me and my cousin decided to light up fireworks in the house and burned a part of the couch and the ceiling. The stairs were probably the most memorable part of the house. It’s where all the crying, accidents, laughter, and games would happen. Rodriguez 2 As a kid, one would always invent their own games. We had many different dangerous and exciting games. One was that we would wrap ourselves in many different sheets...

...Phobias and Addictions Lisa Draxler PSY/300-GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY July 12, 2010 Carlton Bowden Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore how phobias can be developed through classical conditioning, explore how addictions can be developed through operant conditioning, to distinguish between classical and operant conditioning, and to explain what extinction means and how it is achieved in both classical and operant conditioning. * . Phobias and Addictions are two very emotional learning difficulties. Phobias are defined as being an enduring, abnormal, and unfounded fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, regardless of the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous. Addictions are defined as conditions of being consistently or compulsively occupied with or involved in something. Classical Conditioning is defined as a process of behavior variation by which one comes to respond in a preferred manner to a previously neutral stimulus that has been repetitively presented along with an unconditioned stimulus that elicits the desired response. (Dictionary.com, 2010) Fear of heights, spiders, closed spaces (claustrophobia) and other specific or simple phobias are sometimes caused by a type of learning known as classical conditioning. (DeLuca, 2009) Precise phobias or simple phobias are thought to be caused or predisposed by genetics and/ or childhood disturbance...

...Physics in Daily Life Through out my daily life activities physics is involved with every aspect. Even while I sleep physics is at work. So lets begin with sleep. Sleeping is usually what I am doing when the sun rises and the day begins. There are a lot of physics concepts in which take place during my sleeping period, but I will touch on one that is common in every activity…. gravity. As I lay in the bed I am causing the atoms of pillow top and springs underneath to bend. I am putting pressure on the bed itself because I have weight, which is due to gravity. The force of gravity is what keeps me from floating away as I sleep or do anything else. Gravity is probably one of the most important concepts in physics. One of the next things I do is next after waking up is eating breakfast. There is a lot of physics going on in this activity as well but I chose to discuss one of the more complex terms that takes place during eating. The conversion of food to energy is also a part of physics. My body digests the food and in the process pulls the energy from it either to keep me warm or fuel my body to do work. It probably sounds more chemical physical, but gravity pulls the food down which contains potential chemical energy, and in the end that energy allows me to do work or just store it. Also with eating I could mention the act of chewing it. Another activity that I take part in is driving a car. The lists of things that take place that involve physics while driving a car...
