...James Holt 3/10/15 English 200 Short Paper 4 GTA V: Parental Discretion Is Advised For millions of gamers across the world, few dates hold as much significance as September 17th, 2013. On that day, thousands of eager Grand Theft Auto fans lined up outside of Gamestops everywhere, anxious to get their hands on Rockstar Game's highly anticipated addition to the saga: Grand Theft Auto V. Those fans were not disappointed. It is definitely hailed as one of the best games ever released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and is probably responsible for more than one late analysis paper. This is due to its nearly flawless mechanics, gripping storylines, gorgeous graphics, and enormous open world. Until a couple months ago, I've never played any game in the Grand Theft Auto series compared to this one. This is mainly because Grand Theft Auto IV was released when I was eleven years old, and my parents thought that I was just a bit too young to be exposed to carjacking and outrageous hooker-killing. However, for the sake of research and comparison, remembering the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which came out right before GTA IV, gave me a better understanding of what qualities may have been upgraded. Now, I don't know what GTA IV's mechanics and physics are like, because I’ve never played it before and only seen video clips of it, but San Andreas's are very buggy and wooden-looking. Murdered gangsters flop around like rag dolls and the overall setting looks a bit...

...17th, 2013. On that day, hordes of eager Grand Theft Auto fans lined up outside of Gamestops everywhere, anxious to get their hands on Rockstar Games's highly anticipated latest addition to the saga: Grand Theft Auto V. Those fans were not disappointed. It is widely hailed as one of the best games ever released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and is probably responsible for more than one late research paper. This is due to its nearly flawless mechanics, gripping storylines, gorgeous graphics, and enormous open world. Until a couple weeks ago, I'd never played any game in the Grand Theft Auto series. This is largely because Grand Theft Auto IV was released when I was thirteen years old, and my parents thought that was just a bit too young to be exposed to car-jackings and rampant hooker-killing. However, for the sake of research and comparison, two weeks ago I played my Steam copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which comes right before GTA IV. Now, I don't know what GTA IV's mechanics and physics are like, but San Andreas's are very buggy and wooden-looking. Murdered gangsters flop around like rag dolls and do that weird restless-leg-syndrome-type wiggling that really just shouldn't be continued postmortem. Your car or bike might spontaneously disappear, leaving you to either trudge to your destination on foot or drag some poor schmuck out of his own vehicle. These anomalies are exceedingly rare in Grand Theft Auto V. Dead people stay dead, and your car either stays where...

...Stephanie Wicks-Franklin International Economics Research Paper Instructor Stephen L. Crain Wednesday, August 23, 2014 The US and China “A Marriage Made in Renminbi-Yuan” The United States presently in a tightly knit and powerful economic relationship with China. Reason being the US economy depends heavily on foreign capital, in particular the Renminbi-Yuan. According the US Treasury report as of September 21, 2014 the total debt for the United States was at a staggering $17,752,082,587,972.00, this is almost eighteen trillion dollars. With foreign governments and investors holding roughly half of it and China’s holds the largest portion thereof at $1.268 trillion, which is only slightly down from $1.279 trillion in 2013. Chinas investment in the US is a smart move on their part because doing so keeps the value of the dollar relatively high in comparison to the Renminbi-Yuan. Using this very simple it would make China’s exports to the US appear more affordable. This fundamentally helps, China’s the trade driven economy grow. According to the latest numbers provided they the United States Census Bureau as of July 2014 U.S. trade in goods with China are as follows the US exports approximately $9,288,200 and China imports $40,151,300 leaving a trade deficit of roughly $30,863,000 and the current total for the year being an incredible $186,079,900. In an article written for the Wall Street Journal, in September 2014 titled China's Trade Surplus Hits New High ...

...Introduction This essay is to discuss the nature and confusions with Parol Evidence Rule. To do this, the rule will be described and be reviewed with a brief history. Debates will be given after, in order to project its application and suitable situations to be influential. Nevertheless, exceptions, where the rule does not have such influence and cannot be applicable will be argued after. Finally, its application in prevention of further objections for contracts will construct the final deliberation. Ultimately the discussion will be concluded as a brief review to what has been done. Debate Parol Evidence Rule (PER) is a consideration of substantive common law that applies to contracts and eliminates parties to encounter any previous parol and oral evidences, with respect to their written total agreement (Corbin, 1944 and Blum, P: 2007, 348). According to Lawrence (1991) the history of the addressed rule travels to when agreements were made credible by written stamped latters, due to the impact of mystical and formal combination; where such formal evidences are nowadays a considerable factor for many courts to conclude justice. The rule was primarily established in 17th century English common law and has since been distributed among the other regions’ system of justice (Beveridge, 2000). Contract parties usually approach a set of common agreements after their interests are deliberately criticized and defended (Alces, 2005). A construction contract can be observed as an example...

Wal-Mart's investments outside North America have had mixed results: its operations in the United Kingdom, South America and China are highly successful, while it was forced to pull out of Germany and South Korea when ventures there were unsuccessful. Sam Walton Samuel Moore "Sam" Walton (March 29, 1918 – April 5, 1992) was a businessman and entrepreneur born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, founder of Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. Growing up during the Great Depression, Walton had numerous chores to help make financial ends meet for his family. He milked the family cow, bottled the surplus, and drove it to customers. Afterwards, he would deliver newspapers on a paper route. In addition, he also sold magazine subscriptions. After high school,...

... used marijuana annually and around 0.6 percent used it daily. Due to its psychoactive effect, marijuana is currently recognized as illegal drug in most cases. Right now, it is only used for medical purposes and is legal in few places. However, there have been continuous debates going on about legalizing the marijuana. Although most politicians disagree with legalizing it, there is increase in number who agrees on legalizing marijuana for many purposes. I, too, agree on legalizing marijuana because it will solve many problems. Current Obama administration is on stress about medical marijuana laws. Ethan Nadelmann pointed out that state medical marijuana laws do not make “any sense in terms of public safety, health or fiscal policy”. (Franklin) When marijuana is used for medical purpose, there are over 70 percent of voters who support. However, recently, those voters are now shifting towards legalizing marijuana altogether. In an earlier era, where most conservatives ruled, it could have been a right choice for politicians to act negatively on drugs and stay away from legalization. However, many voters today recognize that our prohibition laws do not help reducing drug use, but only create black market where lobbies and gangs use violence to...

...Preparation to English Term Paper on December 15th, 2015Appendix 1 English in Norway Few outside Norway can speak Norwegian. This means that Norwegians have to use English or other foreign languages when they travel or study abroad, or work in firms or organizations with international contacts and activities. Many Norwegian firms even use English as the main language at work. The same is often the case in workplaces with foreign bosses or foreign co-workers. Besides that, workers in Norway often have to read manuals and other documents in English. If you look at the job vacancies in our largest Norwegian newspapers, you will find that many firms and organizations advertise jobs in English. They obviously expect the job applications to be written in the same language. Actually, all you have to do is turn on a computer and access the net to find out how important English really is. Another example is higher education. At your upper secondary school, all of the textbooks you use, except for those in language classes, are written in Norwegian. However, if you decide to go on to college or university, many of your textbooks will be in English, even if you are studying medicine, social studies or engineering in Norway. An increasing number of courses are also being taught in English, often because of international students or because the lecturer does not speak Norwegian. Just at the University of Oslo, for instance, there are more than 800 courses taught in English. ...

...his work experience in retail. Sam had an idea to bring a different type of economical approach to the retail industry. Sam and his brother J.L. Walton owned nine Ben Franklin stores. They went to Ben Franklin store owners with the approach of reducing prices to increase sells and were turned away. In 1962, the brothers decided break away and opened their own store in Rogers, Arkansas which was the start of the first Wal-Mart Discount City store. Their approach was to open stores in populations with 5000 to 25000 people. By the late 1960’s the Walton brothers has 18 discount stores and 15 Ben Franklin franchises which became incorporated in Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (Tell me the history of Wal-Mart). During the 1970’s the Walton’s incorporated many changes to how they do business which laid the foundation to cut cost to gain more control. They implemented a warehouse distribution strategy of constructing their own warehouses so they can buy merchandise in great volume, and positioned its stores 200 square miles from each distribution point. By 1977, Forbes had Wal-Mart ranked #1 in return of equity, return on capital, sales growth, and earnings growth over all other discount and variety stores (Tell me the history of Wal-Mart). Wal-Mart’s continued expanding and in 1978, its stores included a pharmacy, auto service center, a shoe department, and a jewelry division. By 1979 Wal-Mart was in 11 states and sales had skyrocket from $44 million in 1970 to $1.25 Billion by 1979...

...wages and influence other job conditions for its members (Parkin, 1998,p.344). These labor unions can be divided into two types: craft unions and industrial unions (World, 1998). A craft union is a union whose membership is restricted to workers who possess an identifiable skill (Robinson, 1985,p. 69). These members tend to be better educated and trained, and more unified because of common interests (World, 1998). An example of a craft union is the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (World, 1998). On the other hand, an industrialized union is a group of workers who have a variety of skills and job types but work for the same industry (Parkin, 1998, p. 344). Unions of this type include the United Steelworkers, United Auto Workers, and the United Transportation Union (Boone, 1996). History from the 1870 s to 1900 s. The first national union founded in Philadelphia in 1869 in the pre-Civil War period was the Knights of Labor, which intended to include all workers (Encyclopedia, 1996, p. 630). For a decade, this organization grew at a slow pace due to operating in secrecy...

The focus of the credit union is to help its members save, borrow, and receive affordable financial services. One way is by offering higher interest rates on savings accounts which can be important to people in general but also to the young population who are just starting to save for college or some other long term item such as a car. Typically, credit unions charge lower fees compared to banks and provide credit at competitive rates. Like any other business, Credit Unions must have enough income/ assets to cover expenses related to running a business or risk the possibility of becoming insolvent. Lending money to members is a source of income for credit unions. When borrowers default on this lent money, this puts a credit union at risk and causes tougher rules on responsible lending. They are also known for providing service at the personal level by helping their members plan for the future. The first credit union was founded in southern Germany in the year 1864 by...

The company provided electric, gas, water, steam, transit, or ice services in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio Indiana, and Illinois. In 1911 AG&E got its start with an interconnected power system in Indiana covering 30 miles stretching between two power plants. In 1917 the first super power plant called the Windsor Plant which ran on steam was built at the mouth of a coal mine, eliminating the need to haul coal long distances. From 1922 to 1926 AG&E had one of the greatest expansion periods in history. Electricity was powering the country and AG&E was expanding into more states. In 1923 AG&E constructed three major power plants in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In 1924 and 1925 the company acquired two smaller companies and merged them into its profile. Cannabis has many forms other than its plant one that is widely used. In its most common form, marijuana consists of flowers and leaves while as hashish it is found as a type of resin liquid. There were many prominent Americans that used to grow the plant and use the cannabis as a cash crop similarly to how tobacco plants were grew for profit. George Washington used to grow cannabis as his primary cash crop on his plantations, it was a good profit for him as it had its medicinal and recreational use, but could also be used as hemp and a type of fiber to create paper, clothing, and various other materials of a fiber nature. Thomas Jefferson also used to grow this plant as his secondary cash crop to tobacco. Imagine Washington and Jefferson, regarded as some of the greatest Americans in the history of this great planet, having to be arrested for the crime of growing cannabis. This...

...Bettley-3283-02.qxd 6/6/2005 5:06 PM Page 10 2 Operations-based Strategy Robert H. Hayes and David M. Upton Strategic planning tends to be thought of as a high-level game of chess: a ‘grand plan’ is formulated in the executive suite, and then the implementation of the different moves (the ‘easy part’ of the job) is down loaded to the operations organization. However, the world of strategy from the perspective of operations is usually much messier. The ‘strategy’ is seldom evident until after its implementation is well along. Instead, people throughout the organization are continually identifying opportunities, developing new knowledge and capabilities, and testing out their ideas. Initiatives are undertaken, changed in midcourse as new information becomes available and better ideas surface, and sometimes abandoned so that energy can be focused on a different approach. The battle is won not in the boardroom but in the laboratories, on factory floors, at service counters, and in computer rooms. Operations’ role is larger than just that of implementer of strategy; it is the foundation for – indeed, the driver behind – successful strategic attacks and defenses. The important implication for company leaders: companies that fail to exploit fully the strategic power of operations will be both hampered in their own attacks and vulnerable to those of competitors that do exploit this power. Nowhere is this clearer than in cases where large companies that have established...
