...Is Technology Affecting the Developmental Progress of Children? Patrcia Odani Mukuka Southern New Hampshire University Increasingly, there is a large dependence on technology today as opposed to ten or twenty years ago. Technology has changed a lot of how life is lived today. It affects shopping, job seeking employment opportunities, entertainment and academics. There is no doubt that technology has set its foundation and is here to stay. One area in which the effects of technology can be clearly noted is in the lifestyle of children. The addiction to technology by children today has increased over the years. This is clearly seen in the developmental progress of children today. This dependence has greatly influenced how children interact with their peers, how they learn and how they spend their free time. It is important as educators and parents to find a balance between learning and using technological devices for recreation. Children today have developed a total reliance on technology for communication and entertainment. Steve Carell, the actor/comedian, in his commencement speech at Princeton University in 2012 said, “When I was in college, I wouldn’t ‘text’ a girl to ask her out on a date. I would ask her, in person. One human being to another. And when she said ‘no,’ which she always did, I would suffer the humiliation and self-loathing that a young man needs for his, or her personal growth” (Farber et. al, 2012). In his speech, Steve Carell illustrates how communication...

...SALES EXPERIENCES: POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE Intro to Business 115 August 6, 2014 SALES EXPERIENCES - BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE In reflecting on my most memorable experience with a salesperson that was positive, I would have to go back to when I purchased my current vehicle. First of all, I was already waiting to be attacked as soon as we stepped on the lot, as you normally can not even look at vehicles without being pestered. However, I was acknowledged by the salesperson and informed to let them know if I wanted more information on any particular vehicle or had any questions. I didn’t know quite what I was looking for when I arrived at the dealership and was nervous about making the wrong choice. The salesperson was very friendly and attentive, without being pushy or overbearing. He answered by questions without making me feel dumb when I was unfamiliar with the vehicle features or the loan procedures. My salesperson was attentive, remembered my name, answered questions without being condescending, and really listened and retained what I was telling him. Instead of him telling me what I needed to purchase, he let me tell him what I wanted to purchase. He asked lifestyle questions to determine the features I may want or need. I felt like he was working with me instead of just for himself. I was not rushed or pressured in any way, which often happens at dealerships. They seemed to really appreciate my business and concerned that I have a positive experience...

...of advertisement of fast food, lack of physical activities, and parental control; which has made food become a major health issue in many young Children’s lives. CHILDHOOD OBESITY IN AMERICA I feel that one of the most important things that has had an effect on today’s youth is the wide range of fast food chains, that target kids in their advertising. For me that is one of the memories I had growing up, was always begging my mom for a Happy meal. It was mainly due to the fact that there was a toy that came with it, Not Thinking twice about what the meat was actually made of. Did you know that if you were to lay a thing of fries and a double cheese Burger from McDonalds’ out for two years, it would look just like it did one day one? That can’t be good for our bodies! Today some restaurant chains have healthier options to choose from, due to the public Scrutiny putting these companies in the cross fire to make changes towards better meal choices for our youth. In my opinion, I think that a lot of today’s obesity problem also lies a great deal on the lack of physical exercise that young kid’s get. While there are laptops, ipads, and video games, children today, spend less time outside. No wonder...

...Operating system : An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function. Time-sharing operating systems schedule tasks for efficient use of the system and may also include accounting software for cost allocation of processor time, mass storage, printing, and other resources. For hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the operating system acts as an intermediary between programs and the computer hardware, although the application code is usually executed directly by the hardware and will frequently make a system call to an OS function or be interrupted by it. Operating systems can be found on almost any device that contains a computer—from cellular phones and video game consoles to supercomputers and web servers. Examples of popular modern operating systems include Android, BSD, iOS, Linux, OS X, QNX, Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone, and IBM z/OS. All these, except Windows, Windows Phone and z/OS, share roots in UNIX. Smartphone A Smartphone, or smart phone, is a mobile phone built on a mobile operating system, with more advanced computing capability and connectivity than a feature phone.
