Children and Culture

...Culture plays a huge impact in everyone’s everyday life. Culture helps in identifying members of a particular group who share the same behaviors, beliefs, traditions and values. Children begin to learn the culture of their family at a young age but don’t necessarily understand that everyone isn’t from the same culture and don’t follow the same traditions and values. This paper is going to explore what impact culture has on the lives of young children. What role culture plays in the lives of children who are being raised by parents who are from two different cultures will also be discussed. Also how these children cultural development are shaped by the diverse group of people they encounter in school and the roles their parents play in their lives. According to Diller (2011), culture is viewed as a lens through which life is perceived (Diller, 2011, p. 5). A child’s first lesson in culture usually comes from the teachings of their parents. Swick (1986) points out that it is in the performance of various roles that parents introduce children to the basics of their culture (Swick, 1986, p. 72). Children also get to learn about culture through watching their parent’s behavior in various situations. Parents are usually the first people who a child can learn about their culture from and once they start school, their teachers also take on this role as well. Thomas (1998) said that within a family, culture can define boundaries, expectations, rules for interactions...

...marriages more likely to end in divorce? You must be thinking why a young female like me would be writing about marriages and divorce? Well let me begin by telling you that I think young adults that get married young are doing a terrible thing because they are doing it all for the wrong reasons. I personally think that there are a lot of social problems with this generation such as young females getting raped then having to get an abortion because they are mentally and physically unable to look after a child that would remind the young females that they have been raped. There are many other social problems such as teenagers getting married due to family breakdown, religious reasons and different tradition in families. Many young adults nowadays would want to get married at young age because they believe they are in love. Then again I don’t believe that it is possible to be in love at such young age as we still have our whole future ahead of us to find love and to commit to each other. I have been asking myself why teenagers leave home at such young ages to get married. And I have found out that most teenagers hate living by rules and because we live with our parents we would have to live by their rules. I have seen most teenagers lie to their parents saying that they were going to stay at a friend’s house but instead have gone to see their boyfriend. But what these young females don’t understand is that their parents are trying to help them as they have been in our shoes and would...

The Hunger Games Analysis Paper

...Hunger Games: Confronting Violence in Tween Books In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, everything is excitingly explicitly violent. The book is based on children, who are literally taken away from their parents, turned into soldiers and are forced by adults to kill each other. The troubling reality is that the Hunger games is a symbolic reference to real life situations. Everywhere, there’s abuse, neglect, bullying and other horrors that make life miserable for young people, forcing them to fight for their own survival. Parents are worried about two main things and that is the exposure to violence and psychological burdens that reading or watching the Hunger Games can bring. How are parents supposed to react to children killing children; therefore is this survival of the fittest? The Hunger Games book has parents worried about their children feeling the burden of economic sacrifice. They view the Hunger Games as a punishment that must be tolerated because it puts physical and mental distress on their shoulders. Parents feel that the book has too much violence. Parents are concerned how to approach their children and talk to them about death. Young Problems

...Young problems. When you leave school you understand that the time of your independence life and the beginning of a far more serious examination of your abilities and character has come. You also understand that from now you’ll have to do everything yourself, and to “fight” with everybody around you for better life. The first problem that young people meet is to choose their future profession, it means that they have to choose the future of their life. It’s not an easy task to make the right choice of a job. You know children have a lot of dreams about their future : to become a superman or a policeman or a doctor … It’s very easy they think, but when they become older and see real world they understand that in all professions need to know perfectly about what you do, you must be well-educated and well-informed. That’s why I think it’s very important to have a good education at school. And if you work hard everything will be OK. Another problem of young people is drugs. This is a relatively new problem but it is becoming more and more dangerous. Million young people today are using drugs, and most of them will die. Usually they want just to try it , then again and again … and after year may be two years they will die . It is true. Because there are no medicine to help you. That’s why never do it, if you do - it goes bad, very bad. I think that police must work hard to protect young people from drugs. Because drugs will kill our young generation and our future will...

Although, both books are geared toward readers in different stages of their lives, they do bring up the questions of whether or not these individuals understand the concept of money, or how it should be a benefit and not a hindrance, and also that it is truly not the happiness factor for life that several millions believe the case to be. Dream of Athlete

...Haoshun Guan English 96 Paper 1 9:30-11:15 Dream of Athlete In the essay “Delusions of Grandeur,” Henry Louis Gates, Jr. talks about the issue of young blacks and their aspirations of being a professional athlete. He argues that there are actually not have many successful black professional athletes, but there are many successful black doctors and lawyers. (COORD)In his argument, he puts most of the blame on schools; stating with that they don’t do enough job in encouraging young black children to pursue other careers beside the sports. Although schools are one of the reasons why black youths are perusing careers as professional athletes, there are also other factors that Gates, Jr. neglected to mention in his essay. By only singling out the schools and some unilateral information, he was not able to give us a strong enough argument. By neglecting to give us different factors or reasons to how black youths are being encouraged to pursue a career in professional sports more than other careers, his argument is nothing more than a letter of frustration black youths. As Gates, Jr. used a lot of examples on how black youths aren’t passing in their school courses, those example are not enough to show that encouragement toward sports is the main reason why they are failing.
