...findings from a survey that was conducted on parents’ with children ages 7-13 and their knowledge about their children’s use of the Internet. The paper looks at ways in which parents feel that their children can be protected on the internet. It also explores the fears that parents have about their children being exposed to the internet, and their rationales. The research findings highlight the importance of children's internet protection in relation to the role of parents. The major limitation that this research was faced with was the sample size, as it does not adequately represent the actual population sampled. This paper contributes to the field of study as regards the role the internet plays in the lives of children, the perception of their parents and how to protect them from the dangers of the internet. Therefore, your program’s website plays a very important role in communicating a first impression to families. Many prospective parents use the Internet to help them identify possible early childhood programs in their geographic area, and then choose which programs they would like to visit or learn more about based on the information they find online. This is your opportunity to market your program. An attractive and well-designed website should be easy to read. Visitors to the site should be able to find the information they need quickly, with just a few clicks of a mouse. Please review the following childcare centers’ websites: 1. Bright Horizons 2. Childcare Network For your Final Project, you will create the appearance of a website for your own childcare program and facility using either PowerPoint or Prezi. ...ENCEPHALOS 51, 10-14, 2014 INTERNET GAMING ADDICTION. REASONS, DIAGNOSIS, PREVENTION AND TREATMENT ARGIRIS V. KARAPETSAS*, VASILIOS A. KARAPETSAS**, NIKOS X. ZYGOURIS***, APOSTOLOS I. FOTIS**** Abstract We define electronic games addiction as the excessive and morbid use of electronic games (especially those taking advantage of social networking to become accessible to many users). In cases of addiction, this excessive use tends to interfere with everyday reality and to significantly influence it. Researches on the excessive use of internet structures and the problems it causes appeared as early as the 1989 (Shatton, 1989). The rapid development of the computer science and the improvement of the computer-user interaction can fully justify both the massiveness of the problem as well as the plethora of researches on the issue. Roles Video games with an international (thanks to modern technology) appeal tend to be considered as the most addictive ones. This games category includes the creation of a virtual world in which each user is represented through a character that acts on a personal or group basis. Such online games are of extreme popularity. According to the latest (2012) report by an entertainment software company, a 72% of American households with an internet connection have at least a member participating in online gaming. Such high rates tend to raise concerns given the fact that online games are scientifically proven to cause among others:...

...During the Back-to-School Night teacher-parent speech, the teacher demonstrates a level of sensitivity toward the parents in several ways by providing special assistance, step-by-step instructions to aid parents in certain understandings, and explains that special hours after school will be provided for one-on-one conferences with the teacher. The teacher provides a translator for those who may struggle with English, since some of the families are racial minorities, which shows sensitivity towards the non-English speaking families. A written copy of explanation on grading, rules, general information, and national standards is provided for each parent. An explanation of how to communicate with the teacher is explained, including instructions on how to access information regarding the school and classroom by using a home computer. Many options of communication are offered by the teacher via email, the school’s website, and after hours. The teacher realizes that many of the parents work during school hours. Therefore, a calendar is provided that includes hours after school, once a week, in which a parent can come to the school and meet with the teacher. By providing a translator for the non-English speaking parents, the teacher is showing sensitivity and concern that all parents understand what is being explained. This would make the non-English speaking families feel welcome, respected, and accepted by the teacher. The parents might feel that their children would receive a proper...

...Ray Bradbury’s The Veldt: An Analysis of Theme With a whopping growth of 676.3% of Internet users from 2000 to 2014, the significant advancement in technology nowadays enables us to perform daily tasks easier than ever before (World Internet Users). However, too much of a good thing can be bad. With modern technology, people can shop, study, play, or pay bills online on the bed without needing to go out of the house to get it done. As a result, humans are no more aware of their surrounding and have less physical interaction with other people. Similar to today’s scenario, in the story The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, one of the main themes is technology is causing us become more inhuman despite making our life easier. This is emphasized by the author’s use of characters, conflict and style throughout the story. First of all, the characters in the story emphasize the theme because they show negative behavior. As evidence, Peter clearly shows his laziness in the story when he persuaded his father to not shut down the house because all the machines in the house helped him a lot in doing his daily routine. For example, Peter questioned, “Would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier do it” (Bradbury) to his father when George wanted to turn off the all the automatic appliances in their smart home. This event shows that he has been too pampered and comfortable living along the technologies until he highly depend on it and will not move a muscle for himself. Another...

...ROLE OF PARENTS TO THE STUDY HABITS OF THEIR CHILDREN (Michelle Aycock) Parents do play a major role in helping their child develop good study habits. Children should begin to develop homework habits as early as first grade. Providing a positive and supporting study environment is a key in getting good grades. Help your child develop good organizational skills by encouraging them to stay focused on their homework, but not completing it for them. Another important role of homework is not only for children to learn about a subject, but also to teach them responsibility. Being successful in school requires hard work and developing a habit of working toward positive goals. It is important for parents to be involved with their child’s study time by spending time with them, such as helping them with their homework, but not by completing it for them. For example, parents can check to see if the answer to their math problem is correct or help them understand an assignment by explaining it to them. When helping your child, be sure to give them praise and positive comments as this will let your child associate positive feelings with studying. Effects of Modern Technology on the Study Habits of Student “When it comes to study they only depend on technology rather than reading books. And technology can also affect in body health resistance and once you already learn to love copy and paste in the internet in the future you become lazy.” Mr. Philippe Christian John D. Zayas (2003)....

...Children and Advertising Advertising is used by organizations as a marketing tool to create brand awareness, persuade consumers, and motivate them to buy. For organizations, consumers play a huge role in helping a firm determine the creation and implementation of an advertising campaign. In an article in Advertising Society and Review the author notes that, “American children view an estimated 40,000 commercials annually” (O'Barr, 2008). Thus, children have the potential to actively participate in family buying decisions. In order to successfully design an advertising campaign towards children, organizations must understand children’s role as consumers, the effect they have on the advertising industry, and how advertising to children helps businesses achieve their objectives. For advertising to children to be advantageous, advertisers must recognize a child’s buying behavior and purchasing power. Advertising to children is defined as using various advertising mediums to promote toys, food, music, films, and clothing to young consumers. Marketers refer to these young consumers as Generation Y. This generation that makes up approximately 28.6% of the population includes toddlers, tweens and teens. Generation Y makes up three distinct markets that include: 1) the primary market 2) the influence market – parental yielding and 3) the future market (McNeal, 1998). Within the primary market, advertisers must see children as an audience that has the capability to purchase...

...Music plays an important role in the socialization of children and adolescents. Popular music is present almost everywhere, and it is easily available through the radio, various recordings, the Internet, and new technologies , allowing adolescents to hear it in diverse settings and situations, alone or shared with friends. Parents often are unaware of the lyrics to which their children are listening because of the increasing use of downloaded music and headphones. Research on popular music has explored its effects on schoolwork, social interactions, mood and affect, and particularly behavior. The effect that popular music has on children's and adolescents' behavior and emotions is of paramount concern. Lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex, and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres. A teenager's preference for certain types of music could be correlated or associated with certain behaviors. As with popular music, the perception and the effect of music-video messages are important, because research has reported that exposure to violence, sexual messages, sexual stereotypes, and use of substances of abuse in music videos might produce significant changes in behaviors and attitudes of young viewers. Pediatricians and parents should be aware of this information. Furthermore, with the evidence portrayed in these studies, it is essential for pediatricians and parents to take a stand regarding...

...influencing the health-related behavior of children and adolescents" (Dudley pg.7). The effects of the media has been far more harmful on the youth than we can ever imagine. Media can be defined as internet sites, blogs, YouTube, social networking, and t.v shows. Media violence researchers have concluded that there are several ways media violence influences a young persons' behavior. Passive media violence affects a young person through exposure to television violence in programs, movies or news that is only observed by the child or teen. Young children are also influenced negatively by interactive media violence, where they participate, like in video games or activities on the internet. "Even short term-exposure to violent television programs and film media, both can cause aggressive emotions and behavior serious enough to harm others," according to Department of Psychological Science. There are certain factors that will influence the degree that media violence has on the youth. The presence of these factors will moderate the negative behavioral actions of the affected child. For instance, depending upon the age of the viewer, previous displays of aggressiveness as well as the intelligence level can determine how violent media will have an influence. "In addition, the influence of parents, the child social environment or how the children perceives the media as realistic...

...ROLE OF PARENTS AND SCHOOLS Chris Steininger Institution Affiliation Course Title Date Parents and schools play basic and vital roles in the growth and development of children in all aspects of their lives in the society. They are essential in the formation and shaping of character, the determination of virtue and in the end they are the basis for the existence of emotionally, spiritually, physically stable society. Right from the day a child is born, the kind of bond that is formed between it and its parents forms the basis to character development. The interaction between mother and child helps the child learn each and every basic element of both survival and acceptance into the systems that guide the existence of society ( Hunt; et al, 2010). Parents in the basic sense are their children’s first teachers. Through all the activities they are engaged in together as the child develops up to the pre-school level, parents help the child participate in cooking, cleaning and gardening, the child is slowly eased into the world of learning. The parents also provide the link to formal education by actively participating in their children’s schooling activities and thus making an easy transition for the children into the formal learning structures. Schools are charged with the huge role of moulding their charges from the moment they are enrolled with no or little formal education into a productive person in the society. This is a mammoth task which...

By early 2012 the music industry in India had witnessed remarkable changes. With the rapid growth in Internet penetration and usage, innovative technology was driving music production, access and consumption. Sales from digital platforms had surpassed sales from traditional physical formats, such as CDs and tapes. With the distribution of digital music in India largely skewed towards the telecom business, music was increasingly being accessed via mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. Overall, the role of the recording company seemed to be diminishing. While some of the leading companies in the music industry were testing the waters in the digital space, new players, including technology companies, were quickly entering the market with various new platforms and services. Sony Music has unveiled its ‘India Segmentation Study’, the country’s first and largest research undertaken to analyse psychographic and demographic profiling of Indian audiences based on their music consumption patterns. ...offenders ability access online technology and communication tools (Wynton, 2011). The availability of computer based communication has allowed for the world to interact with others in a way that is not like that of telegraph or telephone. Does the increase of technology create more predators or does it just give a medium for predators to expand and reach their potential victims? As with many things that are linked to technology, the exposure and the knowledge that is needed to prevent the increase of child predators online is reliant on multiple factors. These factors include access to online environments, increased preventative technology, knowledge of children and their risks online, and the need for social responsibility for web developers, parents, and children. The expansion of technology does not guarantee more predators will emerge but it does give new mediums and victims that may not have been available previously, creating a need for changes in both the virtual and real worlds that people reside in. Background Child predators can be prosecuted for attempts to “knowingly persuade, induce, entice or coerce any minor to engage in any sexual activity” according to Christenson (2011) of Duke Law School. With this in mind, prior to computer based communication the predator would have to have a way to be close enough to the potential victim in order to commit or attempt a sex crime. With the...
