Generation Y is the demographic cohort following the Generation X with the birth dates between 1980s to the early 2000s. It is known as the most high-maintenance cohort and the fastest growing segment of the workforce. These energetic, educated and confident youngsters are often dissatisfied with their jobs and employers, which means a strong management is needed in order to bring out their potential. In an effort to attract more Gen Y’s into the accounting profession, it is important for CPA Australia to understand Gen Y’s attitudes towards work, their ideal working environment and the factors in contributing to their characteristics.

The reason for the difference between Generation X and Generation Y is the dramatic change of the environment in the 21st century which resulted from the technological innovations, globalization and the changes in practice due to the changing customer demands and products.
