Introduction and Summary

Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream is a documentary about how the American Dream is disappearing across the country. When the Great Recession of 2008 hit, many of the people living across Park Avenue lost their jobs and income (Park Avenue, 2012). People living in the South Bronx depended on food stamps to survive during the bad economy (Park Avenue, 2012). They faced failing school systems and many African Americans failed to graduate from high school (Park Avenue, 2012). America needed to fix the problem by electing a democratic congress to solve the problem with unemployment and increase the graduation rate.

The costs of college have been going up in the last thirty years due to republican tax cuts to the rich, making it more difficult to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is attainable for some people. People are trying to work hard to achieve their goals, but the American Dream is disappearing because more people cannot afford houses and cars (Park Avenue, 2012). I believe that everybody has their own responsibility to control their personal success. However, social factors such as income, gender, and ethnicity influence a person’s ability to succeed or fail. The gap between the rich and poor is getting wider. One website stated, “The top 1% of U.S. households has 42.7% of all U.S. financial wealth” (“Park Avenue”, n.d, para. 9). The lobby industry and the money involved are growing in the U.S. (“Park Avenue”, n.d). The republicans in Congress
