...If you just had a new parking lot poured for your business, you probably want your investment to last. Here are some things that you need to pay attention to over the years in order to make sure that you get as many years as possible out of your new parking lot. #1 Always Clean Up Debris One of the easiest ways to extend the life of your new parking lot is by keeping it clean. Don't let dirt, weeds, leaves and trash build up and accumulate in your parking lot. This type of debris can get into cracks in your pavement and cause them to expand. Leaving debris sitting for an extended period of time can also damage the surface of your parking lot. Assign an employee to sweep and clean your parking lot at least once a week. Keeping your parking lot clean will prolong its life....

...2008 CHARLEY V. WOOTAN AWARD: Outstanding Paper in Policy and Organization Reassessing On-Street Parking Wesley E. Marshall, Norman W. Garrick, and Gilbert Hansen The ongoing debate about the merits and drawbacks of on-street parking offers few definitive answers because comprehensive research in this area has been lacking. The goal is to develop a better understanding of the gamut of issues related to on-street parking, ranging from parking demand and the pedestrian environment to less researched topics such as the efficiency of land use. In addition, the basic question of safety is addressed in a more precise way than previously by taking into account actual vehicle speeds and crash severity levels. The investigation points to on-street parking as crucial in benefiting activity centers on numerous levels. Users of the downtowns consistently valued these landefficient on-street parking spaces over and above off-street surface lots and garages. Low-speed streets with on-street parking also had the lowest fatal and severe crash rates of any road category in the study of 250 Connecticut roadway segments. Part of the reason is that the presence of parking had a measurable effect on vehicle speeds. On-street parking is not purely a device to be used in the right environment; rather, it is a tool to help create that right environment. On-street parking should be more commonly used but especially in situations in which the road is part of the destination and the intent is to cause...

...is “a particular group of people, identified as the intended recipient of an advertisement or message.” The four P’s make up what is commonly referred to as the marketing mix, “a set of controllable tactical marketing tools - product, place, price and promotion - that the firm blends to produce the response it wants in the target market” (Armstrong & Kotler, pg. 51). Focusing on a specific audience can help a company develop a marketing mix that will satisfy the needs of this audience better than the competition. It is quite useful to reduce all of the elements in the marketing mix down to just these four basic marketing tools. These four tools are essential to the development of organizations' marketing strategies and tactics. This paper will describe the elements individually, as well as looking at an organization such as Wal-Mart, a national retailer, who individualizes the marketing mix to fit the company’s specific strategies and tactics. Breakdown of Elements So now let’s discuss the four Ps in further detail. The product tool is based upon the development of the right product. This product has to be appealing to the target audience to make them want it. The product can be a variety of things; a physical good, a service or a combination of the two. As long it is satisfying the desires and needs of the customer, it is a product. The product also includes features, benefits, quality, accessories, installation, instruction, warranty, etc, anything that will catch the...

...In your paper, you will analyze the visual relationship between modernism, class and gender, considering both the formal characteristics and subject matter of the paintings you will examine. While attending to the formal characteristics of each work, analyze the ways in which gender and class may play a role in relation to subject matter, composition, and the intended audience. How are the spaces of modernity depicted in these scenes? If the flânuer is the quintessential modern artist, but cannot be embodied by a woman, what is the role of gender in these works? How does the representation of gender factor into the aims of these artists? Construct your argument based on a visual analysis of these two paintings, paying particular attention to how the artist constructs the spaces of modernity, who is depicted and in what way, and how the viewer is, or is not, accounted for. In your a conclusion, consider the impact of the museum space in framing your experience, discussing and analyzing the placement of these works in the museum – what dialogue might be facilitated by these works’ proximity to each other? What relationship might the curators have been considering when they hung these works? Note that this is not a research paper. You will be graded on your analysis of the visual material, and the conclusions you can draw from your analysis. Some background information will be necessary to relay, but the majority of the paper should be based on your own observation and analysis...

...Ana Gordina Application Paper - BUAD 307 April 20, 2015 Self-Driving Taxis (Uber): Secondary Market Research Proposal Description: Self-driving taxis will be provided by Uber and would create an additional type of transportation offered to consumers. These taxis will not require a human driver to be present at the wheel. The car will include the latest technology, including GPS systems and smart traffic control, which will get the customer from point A to point B upon request and with minimal delays. The concept of self-driving cars has become very popular in the recent years. About 10 years ago, people were suspect about the safety and overall feasibility of the self-driving machines, let alone self-driving taxis. Today, as more tech companies, like Google, are coming up with these cars and testing their performance, people become more willing to give up their seat at the wheel (Emarketer). Whenever new technology comes out in the market, marketers manipulate on how a specific customer segment will react to the product. Take for example, personal computers or internet and how nobody could have predicted that these products would become a commodity. Yet, today, people can’t picture living without them. Knowing what are the benefits and costs of the product make it easier to create a marketing plan for the product. Thus, this report will cover the following subtopics: 1. Benefits and costs of self-driving taxis 2. Potential pricing strategies and costs to the...

...Paper Assignment I Art and Society: Renaissance to Modern Art University of Houston Dr. Sandra Zalman Due: September 18 by midnight via turnitin on Blackboard (http://www.uh.edu/blackboard/) This assignment asks you to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. You will be describing and analyzing a painting in the collection of the museum, paying particular attention to the relationship between the form, composition, and culture of the society from which this painting originated. Then you will contrast that with what you’ve learned about the Northern style of painting, especially considering different Northern priorities in depicting religious themes. First, locate the painting: Giuliano Bugiardini, Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist, 1510 in room 216 of the Audrey Jones Beck building of the Museum of Fine Arts. Discuss how the painting is representative of the Southern Italian style. How does the artist’s use of color, light and shadow, and composition (relationship of figures and space) affect your interpretation of the narrative? How is the human body rendered, and in what sort of environment? What priorities does this artist have in visualizing the narrative for the audience? After describing the painting, consider the cultural differences represented by Southern and Northern painting. How might this theme look differently had it been painted by a Northern artist? How might a Northern artist have interpreted the same scene differently? How might you recognize...

This work was motivated by and experimentally validated in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge, where robotic vehicles had to autonomously navigate parking lots. Our approach has two main steps. The first step uses a variant of the well-known A* search algorithm, applied to the 3D kinematic state space of the vehicle, but with a modified state-update rule that captures the continuous state of the vehicle in the discrete nodes of A* (thus guaranteeing kinematic feasibility of the path). The second step then improves the quality of the solution via numeric non-linear optimization, leading to a local (and frequently global) optimum. The path-planning algorithm described in this paper was used by the Stanford Racing Teams robot, Junior, in the Urban Challenge. Junior demonstrated flawless performance in complex general path-planning tasks such as navigating parking lots and executing...

...Developing Negotiation Skills in the Classroom: A Case Simulation Maureen Hannay Troy University ABSTRACT Effective negotiation skills are required in all positions and at all levels of modern organizations. Employees in the human resources department utilize these skills on a daily basis when they deal with such items as new hire packages, salary increases, performance issues, labor contracts, and terminations. Research indicates that by using practical, real-life simulated negotiation scenarios, learners can develop more effective negotiating skills. This paper introduces a case where students can be assigned to a management team or a union team to negotiate a mock collective bargaining agreement. Guidance is provided on how to apply the case in the classroom and facilitate the discussion at the conclusion of the exercise. INTRODUCTION Employees in every organization utilize negotiating skills on a daily basis. From negotiating deadlines and workloads to prices of supplies and contracts with unions, negotiations range from the small and mundane to the large and exceptional. A company with effective negotiating capabilities can gain a competitive advantage, reduce costs, increase profits and improve relationships (Masters, Albright & Irr, 2003). When identifying the ten managerial roles that leaders perform to accomplish organizational objectives, Mintzberg (1973) classified the role of “Negotiator” as one of the essential decisional roles that must be executed by managers...

...MEMORANDUM The purpose of this memo is to show how my work and research have come so far in terms of the final paper. The site I have elected to research is the Young Women’s Christian Association Corps Center. I attempted using Sanborn Insurance Co. to find maps of the YWCA site as early as 1888. I also researched using the USC libraries website to search about the site/neighborhood before it was built, after it was built, and the present day. Lastly, I took a drive to the relatively close location walked around the block to get a general feel for the area. Pre- Research Before I started doing anything I thought it was important to find out exactly what my site was and where it was located. I figured it would be important to know where the site was exactly and its actual purpose so I would be able to tell the effects that YWCA Jobs Corps Center would have on the surrounding area. Sanborn Insurance Co. – An Epic Search (Still in Progress) Maybe I am just bad at looking at map keys but I almost found this part of the research impossible. I have not given up because I know there is a way but in 1888 I could not even locate Broadway St. (the street its on) on the map. There was also not an option for a map after for after the year of 1955, which also poses a problem because the site was not even built until 1965. I will definitely find a map for 1955 on Sanborn but it leads me to believe that I will need to use another source to find a map where the actual site...
