On-the-Job Training Objective Exposure to the different work situation is designed to provide students an opportunity to experience and observe the application of theories they have learned in the classroom in an actual work place. The training will enable him to develop the necessary conceptual, technical know-how and the human aspects necessary to start work in a lodging or food-service related operation.

General objective: To acquire practical knowledge / skills on the operational aspect of the different department in a lodging and food service establishment. Specific: At the end of the practicum training program, the student should be able to: 1. Associate key position in the hotel food service industries and related operations to their corresponding tasks and responsibilities; 2. Identify and comprehend standard operational procedures and techniques of each of the sections /departments assigned. 3. Perform the specific task required in the sections/departments assigned. 4. Appreciate the importance of efficient operational policies and procedures in relation to the overall management of the lodging or food-service operation. 5. Be familiar with the equipment, facilities and layout design in each department.

Introduction to the Actual On-the-Job Training

Internship or on-the-job training is one way which we students are given the opportunity to actualize and apply what we have learned in the academe. It also helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and skills by performing actual work setting. Colleges and Universities require their students to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum for us students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipments, etc. In effect, the work place become a development venue for us student trainee to learn more about our chosen field and practice what we have learned from academy.
In the other hand, a valuable OJT program also profits the Hotel who accepts trainees just like us. First OJT or intern provides extra manpower for a less or no significant labor cost than a regular employee. Most of us are eager to learn the ropes so chances are high that they’ll be given a chance to work on the same establishment or others as an employee after graduating. Employers are using this internship strategy as a one method of recruiting employees. Since the trainer or the supervisor can follow trainees’ progress, he/she gauge based on performance, behavior and attitude if the trainee will make good recruit after completion of his/her training.
We trainees can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the opportunity to converse our minds freely and without fear, we may be able to contribute significantly using our basic skills and knowledge effectively in service just like the training center theme “Training for Service Excellence” and eventually to amend ourselves and help the organizations productivity in offering service.
While training the interns, employers are in fact also teach their employees to guide the trainees by stretching their patience in handling guest related problems, develop skills to be more competitive and make them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to share what they know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the training also becomes an avenue in producing future managers of the establishment.

The City Garden Suites Manila was established in 1992. It emerged to be one of the most preferred standard class hotel in the Manila District as accredited by the Department of Tourism. The spacious lobby interior of this Three-star hotel was designed with true taste of elegance that elicits comfort and convenience for its guest. The hotel ensures that its facilities are suitably maintained in its A-1 condition as well as consistency in creating fresh, clean and homey atmosphere. In addition to its competitive advantages, since the year 2004 up to present, City Garden Suites has implemented a quality management system in all aspects of its operation in accordance with ISO. 9001:2000 and is certified by TUV Management services, an international award-giving body, with 180 certification. This City hotel in 2006 has 96 rooms in total spread on all floors. It is air-condition, has a lobby with 24 hours reception, hotel safe, currency exchange facility, cloak room, lift access, Café, internet access and parking area facilities.
All of the recently decorated rooms in the hotel are equipped with comfortable bed, cable television in suite bathroom with shower or bath tub and hot and cold running water, hairdryer, direct dial telephone, internet access, tee/ coffee making facilities, centrally regulated air- conditioning, electronic safe deposit box and a mini bar.
