Path to Modernity The renaissance period marked the foundation of new concepts and improvements that defied the superstitious belief. This era impacted and shaped the future that led to the rise in a modern era which had a significant impact on the 21st century. Renaissance time period primarily influenced innovative ideas, literacy, and philosophies in Europe. While Modernity was the span of arts used in the humanities and the social sciences. It was a major approach that preferred to rejuvenate the way people viewed fine arts, politics, and science. During that time, there were many plays that depicted the parody which still existed. One of the dramas is Tartuffe by Moliere that introduces Duke Orgon, who is heavily influenced by the hypocrite Tartuffe. Tartuffe in the play disguises himself as the wise man who claims to be a god’s pupil. In the entire show, Duke considered Tartuffe as his family and greeted him with affection and friendship. But at the end of the play, the real face of Tartuffe is revealed as he gained Duke’s assurance and took everything away from him. In the end, he does not lose everything as king in the play interferes to help him. As within the play, the trust of Duke is satirized as he hastily believes in Tartuffe’s judgment. So the play teaches the people that they should never have blind faith or trust on other people even though they claim themselves to be god’s pupil. It led to different inventions and expansion of factories, the trade between the countries increased significantly, extraordinary progress in agriculture, technology, and communication, the creation of jobs and improved standard of living. The industrial revolution also had some drawbacks as the global pollution increased due to the raw materials used in the machinery in the factories, death rates of the labor class increased to a certain extent due to hazardous machinery. As the revolution led to slums, child labor, wage slavery, lack of education and as a result lower class were dependent on wealthy class for their livelihood. Therefore; the period of the industrial revolution (18th -19th Century) led to many important inventions in history and it effectively introduced a new economic system which is known as “Capitalism” in the world. There were many innovations which formed the modern world that we survive today. Numerous developments in science and technology have made the contemporary society. Therefore the concept of Modernity reconfigures the affiliation of personalities to the other personalities and culture by promoting individualization.
