...Where are we headed? Did I do what I needed to do in the past? These are some common questions we ask ourselves everyday in life. In today’s world, there is a lot of pressure as to what is going to happen in the future. We get prepared by going into the future the day one that we are put onto this earth so we do not do anything worthwhile while we are living. There is a lot of preparation in school kids from the day that we start preschool. The little rules from preschool that seemed so mindless really stood for something big in life in the long run. For example, one of the biggest rules I encountered in preschool was that you had to share. To apply that to every day life as an adult, I am willing to share my time and help out in the community any way I can. Also, life is about learning and learning from the past. Anyways, preparing us for life has a very philosophical stand point. Confucius can be very helpful in looking into one of his classics; “The Analects of Confucius.” This writing has provided some very helpful quotes and advice on how to evaluate one’s path in life. One of the most notable Confucius sayings is “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” This can be applied to going down your path of life. Through out life, was as humans gain a lot of wisdom from daily experiences. Confucius states that we can learn to be wise through three...

...Choosing Your Path in Life Kayla Plencner ENG125: Introduction to Literature Instructor Hannah Martin September 23, 2013 Choosing Your Path in Life In a person’s life, many decisions have to be made, like the decision to get your homework done now or put it off until later, with the possibility of it being late or falling behind. We all face the decision on which path(s) to choose in life. Robert Frost’s 1916 poem “The Road Not Taken” demonstrates how the poet emphasizes ambiguity, which is “the use of language that has more than one meaning, creating uncertainty about how to interpret what has been stated,” (Clugston, 2010) that is associated with life choices. He also uses a metaphor, which is “an image that imaginatively compares one thing with another, showing how each has qualities that resemble the other,” (Clugston, 2010) by comparing the two roads with life choices of right or wrong. This poem captured my interest because it represents the decisions people make every day and the after effect that these choices may have on one’s life. In this essay I will use the formalist approach, which is “most widely used in literary criticism; it focuses on the form and development of the literary work itself,” (Clugston, 2010) to better explain my analysis. The poem is made up of four stanzas that include five lines each and the rhyme scheme of the poem is ABAAB. Although this is a short poem that does not take away from the fact that it has powerful meaning. People may...

In today’s modern age and time, many people has the belief that a good education was the key to success in life, and that only through education and education alone will they achieve such ‘success’. Indeed, I must agree with the majority that by having good education, which is in terms of getting Aces in your studies and topping in your classes, they may be ways to help you in achieving success in life. As to many people, success may be symbolized as getting a highly paid job, earning a high salary, driving in a big flashy car and living in a posh house. All of these are materials, which can be easily attained when you are very well educated as jobs will then came knocking to your door instead. However, this might not be true all the time as there may also be other exceptional cases when sometimes even if you have received good education while studying overseas, you might not get a well-paid job. ...“Mommy Tasi pulled my hair!" "I want some cookies now mommy!". I am a happy mother in the mid-thirties who is playing with my 02 little kids before leaving for the 10-year ceremony of the DSU-MBA Course in Vietnam. It’s already 10 years since 2010. Time really flies! Looking back on the last 10 years, I am so happy with the all the wonderful achievements I had and the right decisions I made for my life. The first major milestone would be my MBA degree in 2012. The program itself provided me not only a range of new skills and business knowledge, but more importantly a “bigger picture” understanding, a different view on the world, which I found very helpful in all the jobs I have been doing until now. The degree also played an important part in the evolution of my career. After six years working at Cisco, an IT company, I moved to Ford Motor as the Marketing Manager in 2013 with a total new business environment in a consumer market. My following 4 years in Ford gave me opportunities to further practice the skills I learnt from this MBA course, especially the strategic thinking and leadership skill. The second key achievement I made was the decision to open my very own business, “Gam Restaurant” in 2017. I still remember the early days with a lot of challenges and how difficult it was for me to decide to leave a multinational company for this private business. I have learnt many good lessons along the way to bring the restaurant become one of the best choice of Vietnamese...

...September 26th 2011 Outline I. Symbolism II. Theme The paths and choices of life III. Mood and setting Choosing the right path a. One leads to eternal life b. One leads to destruction IV. Conclusion Choosing the right path makes all the difference. Thesis statement: This poem is a symbol of choosing which path we will take in life – the path to eternal life or the path that leads to destruction. The meaning of “The Road Not Taken” Some people have said that Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Less Traveled” is a tricky poem. I have even read where Frost himself used the word “tricky” to describe this particular piece of his. However when reading the poem especially as a Christian there is one possible interpretation that should stand out. That is that this poem is a symbol of choosing which path we will take in life – the path to eternal life or the path that leads to destruction. From what I have read many people do not see the two roads as the two possible roads we can take in life, but one must see that at least as a possibility. The mood of this poem is one that is a bit on the serious side. Of course there are many poems much more serious than this, but it is not to be taken lightly. When something is talking about choosing eternal life, or the path that leads to destruction it is not something anybody should take lightly. That is the theme of the poem, choose the path of life. In life people have to make choices. In the poem there are “two roads...

...Journey Paths and Roads Student Name ENG125 Instructor Name Date “A Worn Path and “The Road Not Taken” are literary works that take us on a literary journey exploring choices and obstacles the protagonists encounter adding dimension to the stories. The authors of “A Worn Path” and “The Road Not Taken” use different point of views to narrate their stories. Point of view is the way the author allows you to "see" and "hear" what's going on. Skillful authors can fix their readers' attention on exactly the detail, opinion, or emotion the author wants to emphasize by manipulating the point of view of the story” (Woods, 2010). Both stories use symbolism to show the hardship of life the characters endure along their journey and that how life can change along the way. The readers’ perceptions about the events are changed by the symbolism surrounding the characters and the conflicts that are presented. When it comes to literary works there’s always a deeper implication hidden behind the piece, and it’s up to the reader to dig around to find it. Both forms share a similar theme with different point of views along with several literary devices. Both of these literary pieces focus on one particular theme that is “Life’s Journey”. A theme of a story should give the reader its point of view and a reader should be able to understand the theme from the story through the characters, action, and setting that make up the story. Both show how the decisions we make in life can change...

...The Dhammapada: The Path of Perfection The Dhammapada, comes from the “Pali word Dhamma and the Pali and Sanskrit word, Pada (9). Dhamma corresponds to the Sanskrit Dharma, the first word of the Bhagavad Gita when the field of Dharma, the field of Truth, is mentioned” (Mascaro 9). The word Dhamma carries the meaning ‘to support, to remain’ and thus of “law, a moral law, a spiritual law of righteousness, and the eternal law of the Universal, Truth” and in Christianity, it corresponds to “the will of God” (Mascaro 9). The word Pada, means “foot, step, and thence has the meaning of a path” (Mascaro 9). Juan Mascaro writes, “Thus Dhammapada suggests the Path of Dhamma, the right path of life in which we make with our own footsteps, our own actions, and which leads us to the supreme Truth” (9). The Dhammapada, represents the path of Truth, the path of love, the path of light, the path of life, and the path of Nirvana or in Christian terms the path of God (9). The Dhammapada, to me represents verses that can be used as a guide for life. These could help build and teach morals and help create a foundation for a person’s individual life. Such topics as, contrary ways, the mind, the fool, good and evil, joy, forsake anger, and craving can help guide an individual through life. I do understand that these verses encompass the struggles towards Nirvana, which is the supreme goal for the Buddhist, and point out the narrow Path of Perfection that leads to it. These verses are probably...

...think of many crossroads I have come to throughout my life and what could have been if I had chosen a different path. Before I started reading it I wondered if Frost was writing about a specific path he had chosen or just life in general and the different paths one comes to in their life. Life is full of many decisions and the struggle to choose the correct path ,but a decision must always be made. I will now try to unfold the story and try to find out what Frost may have been trying to say. In the first line a traveler comes across “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood” which tells the reader that he is at a crossroads in his life and he is now about to have to make a decision. He is unable to take both paths and must make a decision on which path to chose. He then states “And sorry I could not travel both” and seems to be somewhat unhappy that he could not take both. It is always difficult to make decisions because one always wonders what may be missed if one decision had been made rather than another. He realizes that he cannot travel both roads and now has to make a difficult choice. Attempting to make the best decision he “looked down one as far as I could,” trying to see the future of what each decision may bring. Both paths have unknown endings and although he attempts to see how both may go he cannot see where they lead. It is the way he will choose that will determine where his life will go. After choosing his path he “Then took the other, as just as fair, and having...

...believe that everything that we do and everyone that we meet is put in our path for a purpose. There are no accidents; we're all teachers - if we're willing to pay attention to the lessons we learn, trust our positive instincts and not be afraid to take risks or wait for some miracle to come knocking at our door (Gibbs,1). In life we take so many different paths are taken. Some paths that are shown are harder to choose from than others. In the poem, The Road Not Taken, the theme of the poem shows that there are paths in life that we can decide to take and it can define our lives forever and Robert Frost portrays this using symbolism, metaphors, and allusion. Symbolism is used in this poem to portray the difficulty of which paths to take. This can be shown when he says, Two roads diverged in a wood (Frost, line 18). Altogether it is symbolized as if he was in the woods and there were roads that could be taken to lead to different places. The woods is the author's life and the paths are the different paths that could be taken when living his life. The fact is that all these roads lead to there own separate destinations. Towards the end he takes the path that is not really used by others which makes a big difference in his life....

Speakers point of view in “The Road Not Taken” poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is a controversial poem published in 1916 about making choices and decisions. There are always multiple paths/roads one can take in life some right, and some wrong. However, we as the travelers of notional “path of life” have to make decisions concerning where it leads us at the end. The author’s use of metaphors, descriptive language and past tense signifies the struggle he has to go trough before making a decision. Moreover, clever choice of descriptive language incorporating colors and description of each road amplifies traveler’s complex thought process even when faced with only two choices in life. This complex use of imagery places the reader in similar situation while reading the poem. “The Road Not Taken” is a poem with metaphorical relation to our choices in life. ...“The Road Not Taken” speaks into your soul and gives you the decisions that need to be made in your life. The Road Not Taken shows you how your decision can and will affect your personal outcome in either positive or negative way. It helps you reflect in your past and helps plan for your future. Decisions in life can be the most difficult choices we make for ourselves, our families, our loved ones with each decision having consequences that can affect everyone around them. I chose this poem because it fits in my life. Choices and decisions, what road is the best road to pick, the road not taken or the well-worn path. Will the paths meet in the middle or take me different ways? This poem was written in first person so I wonder if he was conflicted about something in his life. He states that it was written on one of his friends who took the wrong path. (Hollis, 2014) “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,” This is meant to be two roads that start out as one and splits into different directions. We all start out on a path and we need to pick our roads and the directions that it takes us. “And sorry I could not travel both.” He wants to take both paths, but he knows he can only go down one. “Long I stood, and looked down one as far as I could. To where it went in the undergrowth.” The choices we make and the paths we take are not simple and sometimes we have bumps in the paths we choose and sometimes we can’t see with open eyes the decisions that we need to make. (Frost,...
