From analysis of Mr Farmer’s condition, it can be understood that the pathophysiology underpinning his AMI was due to fatty deposits, plaque, having built up within the coronary arteries, which are responsible for blood supply to the heart. In Mr Farmer’s case, the plaque had built gradually over his life, and the plaque deposits limited blood flow to the heart and caused his long history of angina. Factors such as consuming regular take away food, smoking and physical inactivity had triggered his current AMI.
