A Little Girl; Now a Woman Standing Strong
Colorado is a place full of big cities and little towns like Pueblo. In this specific little town a little girl was born in 1964 to an average middle class military family as the fourth, and at the time youngest, child of Jose and Erlinda Martin Del Campo. Patricia Rodriguez, formerly Martin Del Campo, was that little girl once upon a time, but now she is the mother of three children of her own. As a single mother, Patricia had to take care of everything herself with little help from other family members, besides her parents who were always willing to help her with her kids, and became the pillar of strength her children needed in their younger years. Karen Lawrence. She found somewhere to belong and a place away from the poison of her older sibling’s life-styles; with support from her other family members. Patricia strengthened already existing friendships and made new ones with people who shared her passion for theater, and also shared her overly dramatic nature. Friendships that would either last or fade after she graduated and that Patricia would learn to handle in her own way. While in the theater club she found value in working hard for something she wanted and enjoyed every minute of it. Patricia remembers how she was before high school and often reminisces on how much she owns to Mrs. Lawrence for getting her involved in the club in the first place. She eventually spent all her free time on club activities as an officer. Patricia spent much of her time with the club on stage either as an actor or a stage hand. She also recalled many times the teacher also took all her students to competitions on her own personal time in order to keep them out of trouble. Patricia stated that, “I miss her a lot and I wish she was still alive.” She herself remembers that Mrs. Lawrence affected not just her own life but the lives of all her club mates in a positive way by setting them on a steady path to a bright future, whether they decided to pursue a career in theater or just chose to go to a college with a good theater …show more content…
She has all her kids in her life, even the ones who are not really ‘hers’, such as her step-daughters, daughter -in-law and son-in-law. She made mistakes, both big and small, and they all affected her life in one way or another. Many of the things that have shaped her life were positive as well Patricia became her husbands’ conscious, and her children’s wind behind their sails, always pushing them to reach their goals.. She was the first of her siblings to graduating high school, and the first to get accepted into a college even though she didn’t go until years later. Patricia was even the first one of her siblings to get married in a church. She quit smoking before it adversely affected her lungs or her children and even when she did, she never smoked in front of her parents due to how she was raised to respect them Following her example, Patricias younger sister and younger brother also led safe and happy lives out of the shadows of their older siblings. Neither Patricia or either of her two younger siblings were ever arrested, between the three of then they have only been to jail a handful of times in their younger ears. They all became upstanding members of today’s American society and lead very different lives from what they could have. Just think, it all starting with one little girl born in a little town in beautiful
