...Following the collision, Hiller's vehicle went off the left side of the road, where it went airborne over a stream and overturned. Hiller, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. The other driver was belted and was not injured. Troopers found Hiller to be under the influence upon contact with him at the hospital, according to the patrol. His original charge stemmed from a Feb. 20 incident at a business along South Washington Street. Millersburg Police were called to the business after Hiller, apparently intoxicated, allegedly knocked over merchandise and threatened to set off a traffic flare inside the building, according to Millersburg Police Chief S. Thomas Vaughn. Responding officers arrived as Hiller, who had paid for the road flares, was exiting the business. Hiller, however, failed to provide officers with information regarding his identification, as required by law, and he partially headbutted one of the officers...

...the individual. There is reasonable suspicion being presented in this situation, the juvenile is wearing expensive and new sports gear that could have very well come from the sports warehouse. Although I do not believe this is enough to stop the juvenile. The farthest I would go in pursuing the individual would be to tail him looking for any suspicious activity to further pursue him. In the event his actions provided sufficient probable cause I would calmly stop the juvenile and question him on what he was doing in the area. I would make a decision to arrest him or not based on his answers and my own personal observation. Scenario two presents a situation in which a group of female juveniles are gathered in a park known to local law enforcement as a place where drug transactions occur regularly. It is 10pm when a patrol car rolls by. Noticing the police vehicle one of the individuals starts to walk away from the park at a fast pace. As...

Police Operations encompass a wide range of activities, particularly patrol and traffic operations, implementation of special laws, command and control, civil disturbance, disaster management, terrorism, deployment of troops, internal security operations and community-oriented policing, with due regard to human rights. Police Patrol has always been the backbone of protecting the public, and as far back as society had begun to get organized into groups and communities, mankind has always had people to patrol, to show a strong presence, as well as be on the look-out for danger at all levels, and then be able to respond. And if it wasn't for the Police patrolling your neighborhood, your local community and even your entire city, then the little world that you live in, would become Survival Of The Fittest. We must tell you that in all the world of defense, police patrol is the best way for the police to defend us. High police visibility discourages criminals. Normally, criminals think twice before executing their plans if there is obvious presence of police officers. Thus, patrol activity should be carried in a manner that attracts maximum attention to the police officer or police vehicles. The general goals of the police patrol force are protection of life and property, preservation of peace and order, prevention of crime, suppression of criminal activities, apprehension of criminals, enforcement...

...When summoned for jury service, jurors appear for the length of one trial or one day. The majority of jurors complete their service in one day.At this particular visit to the Orange County Courthouse, I was selected for jury duty. In order to report for jury duty, potential jurors such as me had to arrive at the courthouse for check-in at 8:00 am. At that time all jurors are screened via metal detectors and asked to proceed to the jury assembly room. Upon entering the jury assembly room, the juror check-in process was occurring. Later on all the potential jurors for the day had been seated, and welcomed. A clerk of the court explained in detail and gave a briefing on what the day would consist of. In Orange County, jurors are assigned a number of which, when a judge is ready to hear a case on the docket and a jury is needed he would at that time request for a jury pool, he will then alert the clerk to pick a pool of numbers-which is done through a lottery system. A lottery of numbers (12) is selected. Those twelve individuals are then walked up to the courtroom for that particular judge, were further jury selection will take place. Going forward, my juror number was selected in the lottery pool, and was then taken to the courtroom. It was then at that time the pool of potential jurors were seated according to our numbers, and given a set of instructions from the judge. As a brief, he touched bases on the case which was at hand-DUI and what the pool of jurors could expect from...

Route reconnaissance is typically conducted by a foot, horse or vehicle-mounted route reconnaissance patrol, sometimes with aid of aerial reconnaissance aircraft. The patrol would include regular reconnaissance elements and a combat engineering team. 2. ...Probable cause can be developed from agent observations, records checks, non intrusive canine sniffs and other established means. Motorist's may consent to a search, but are not required to do so. Immigration and customs enforcement conduct homeland security investigations and assist in enforcement and removal operations. In order to conduct a legal search under the Fourth Amendment, the agents must develop particularly probable cause to conduct a lawful search. The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution states, “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (Staff, 2017).” Many U.S. citizens feel that stops and searches at the border are unnecessary and are a violation of their rights as citizens. Citizens have the right to decline to searches and if they are asked to be searched it is primarily because agents have a probable cause to conduct a search. The Fourth Amendment protects people from unlawful searches and seizures and without probable cause agents must have a warrant to search. Border patrol agents are simply doing their job and any person stopped and questioned should comply and be cooperative. Instead of being...

...This is a factual event of a lesson I learned while serving in Afghanistan as a patrol leader of a route clearance platoon in Uruzgan Province. My hopes in writing this are that maybe someone will take my advice and my mistake and not make the same mistake. The events of this story took place throughout my 9 month tour in 2012-2013, on Route 55. Over my 9 months here there has been 13 I.E.D related incidents or finds on this particular stretch of route. The majority of incidents have been detonations on route clearance vehicles. My patrol has personally experienced 2 of these detonations in which one of them could have been prevented. Before I get into the details of that day I would like to explain all of the lessons learned throughout this...

...Goodenough, is a patrol officer who often serves as a field training officer. Goodenough is generally capable and experienced in both the patrol and detective divisions. She takes pride in being of the “old school” and has developed a clique of approximately 10 people with whom she gets along while mostly shunning other officers. As an officer of the old school, she typically handles calls for service without requesting cover units or backup. She has had six complaints of brutality lodged against her during the last 3 years. For Ima and her peers, officers who call for backup are “wimps.” She has recently been involved in two high-speed pursuits during which her vehicle was damaged when she attempted to run the offender off the road. Ima will notify a supervisor only when dealing with a major situation. She is borderline insubordinate when dealing with new supervisors. She believes that, generally speaking, the administration exists only to “screw around with us.” You, her shift commander, have been angry about her deteriorating attitude and reckless performance for some time and have been wondering whether you will soon have occasion to take some form of disciplinary action against her. You have also learned that Ima has a reputation among her supervisors as being a “hot dog.” Some of her past and present supervisors have even commented that she is a “walking time bomb” who is unpredictable and could “blow” at any time. One day, while bored on patrol, Ima decides...
