Paul Signac was born in Paris on 11 November 1863. In 1884 Signac met Georges Seurat. The result of this meeting was Signac's embrace of Pointillism. After Seurat passed away in 1891, Signac became the chief spokesperson of Neo-Impressionist movement, getting supported by Félix Fénéon and Charles Henry, a scientist. In 1899, Signac wrote about "Neo-Impressionism: D'Eugène Delacroix au Néo-Impressionnisme" [From Eugène Delacroix to Neo-Impressionism]. In his paintings, he noticed the rules of Pointillist colour theory. Signac also produced many watercolours, which allowed him a more free expression. Signac's favorite motifs were Mediterranean landscapes, usually including the sea and boats. Signac also brought influence on succeeding generations
