...However, the decision to constantly relocate was not always voluntary but rather necessary. For instance, in 1973 when she was contracted by a military coup, that had brought Augusto Pinochet to power, to help people who were on the wanted list escape. This ceased when Allende discovered her name on the list at which point she decided to flee to Venezuela where she held residence for 13 years. Even though some of her travels hold unpleasant memories one that brought her much joy was her trip to California in 1988. Here she met her second husband Willie Gordon. Allende’s first marriage was to Miguel Frias with whom she had two children Paula and Nicolas. Her daughter Paula was actually one of the main characters in a novel Allende wrote titled, Paula. The novel Paula is similar to The House of the Spirits both of which are letters to loved ones. Paula had fallen victim to Porphyria which caused her to slip into a coma from which she never awoke. The letters were...

...co-worker, or a customer. Sometimes people tend to take sexual harassment very hard; especially if the individual that’s being harassed is married. This type of issue can be very hard to talk about sometimes, especially if you have the feeling that someone might not believe you. Kaminsky (2006) states that; “Staying in the realm of the government, President Clinton himself came under fire for alleged sexual harassment. Paula Jones was a state employee when Clinton was Governor of Arkansas. In 1991, she claimed that Clinton exposed himself and asked her for oral sex in a hotel room. Clinton denied all allegations. After several rounds of filing, Jones's lawsuit was dismissed for failing to state a claim. During the appeals process, a settlement was reached. Jones dropped her suit against Clinton in exchange for $850,000. However, she never received an admission of guilt or an apology. Jones's allegations paved the way for investigating the President's sex life. The Monica Lewinsky scandal and the impeachment of President Clinton were big follow-ups to the Paula Jones case.” I believe victims of sexual harassment should be taken care of at the upmost. You never know how a person is feeling about the situation and might try to get back at the other individual violently. What if one of these women wanted to get back at the president in a harmful way because of it? Just because he is the president I feel this should have been taken care of differently. Yes, he should have been impeached...

...The question posed for this week’s discussion is what I would consider a mixed bag. While I feel that similarities between the partners would make for a stronger relationship I do not feel that we need to seek out our copies. What it really will boil down to is the couple’s ability to adapt and accept differences and to not see them as weaknesses but rather opportunities for growth (Olson, 2009). Paula Abdul, I realize that this dates me a bit, had a top twenty hit in 1988 titled "Opposites Attract" which has found some basis in sociological research. In an article found in Psychology Today this issue of why those who are different are drawn together is discussed, "Opposites, or perhaps more accurately, “complements” do attract...And while this can create some interesting challenges for most couples, these differences are actually the source of what is considered by many to be the source of the most important aspect of any successful relationship: chemistry" (Bloom and Bloom, 2014). This chemistry is what initiates an interaction that could lead to a lasting relationship. Those who are just like us tend to limit our ability to grow and adapt, which is needed in a healthy relationship. The PREPARE/ENRICH program allows couple to see where they have strengths but more importantly is shows where they can grow and then leaves it to the couple to decide if they are willing to work at it. When a couple leans on existing strengths in times of stress while striving through Christ-like...

...disaster. These points are all accurate, and indeed important. However, the only thing Jay says regarding the music industry is that its reputation is boosted when its celebrities do charitable things. He neglects to include how the music scene and the musicians themselves are affected, and how the way we view music has been affected. In the first body paragraph, I feel that he spends far too much time describing Sam Fuller. While certainly relevant to American Idol, Fuller’s influence is more relevant to the entertainment industry and comes more from his wealth than his musical background. Facts such as which celebrities he manages are mostly irrelevant. Instead, he should have spent more time on describing how Simon (as well as Randy and Paula, the other two judges) have influenced musicians and the way we view music. The other body paragraph is very vague. It is somewhat clear what point he is trying to make about Idol serving as a public forum, but not specifically how that has influenced anything. Once again, there is no mention of how the music scene was affected, only how public society was affected. His point about the Katrina relief efforts were...

...met Paula over 40 years ago; what was to be just a simple introduction was everything but; this introduction evolved into a lasting relationship which quickly became a sister bond. Paula’s gentle and fun nature made it easy for my entire family to adopt her as one of our big sisters. As Paula and I continued to be friends we have enjoyed many life impacting experiences. Our children were born around the same time and grew up together. When my son, who was bright, yet was failing in third grade; it was Paula who discovered that his challenges were due to dyslexia. Without charges, Paula tutored my son and the school year ended with him being the most improved student in his class. My children and I spent many weekends at the Parks, Zoo and other amusement venues with Paula and her family alone with many of her students over the years. She often spent her own money on clothes as well as school supplies for many of her students. There were times when food purchases were made for the families of these children. Most of these children were from disadvantaged situations and without her intervention most likely would never have enjoyed these experiences. I believe Paula’s acts of kindness, sharing and caring went beyond her duties and responsibilities as a teacher, and is the result of some of these children going on to becoming teachers and other responsible adults. Paula continues to hear from many of her students today who are adults with their own families.. Paula is one...

At her speech the First thing I perceived was her sense of humor, her story about the kids saying “are you looking at me” was very funny. It is a very secure statement when we can recognize our disabilities and make fun of them. She is a true sample for many people who complain about minor things in their life, she was born premature and adding to that diagnosed with cerebral palsy witch is a brain damage it occurs while a baby’s brain is still developing. When Rachael finds out her husband is having an affair she turns to alcohol and tends to have holes in her memory. Typically she does not worry too much about these holes that is until Megan Hipwell goes missing, and Rachael may be responsible. In Paula Hawkins’s The Girl on the Train, I have been connecting, predicting, and questioning. When Rachael was married to Tom they were attempting to conceive a baby, however they went through some difficulties in the process and were unable to conceive. This led Rachael to take up a drinking habit. This drinking habit is what caused Tom to divorce Rachael, and then the divorce led Rachael to drink heavier. Rachael’s strong addiction to alcohol...

...Superman and Paula Brown’s new snowsuit Superman and Paula Brown’s new snowsuit is a shot story written by Sylvia Plath in 1955. In the beginning of the text our narrator tells us that the story takes place in Winthrop [153, Ln. 2]. The story is set in the winter, in “the year the war began” [153, Ln. 2-3]. The world war two started in Europe in 1939, but it was first in 1941 the US entered the war. My guess is then, that the story takes place in the winter of 1941. There are a lot of hints that tells us that it is war time, like: Uncle Frank is “waiting to be drafted” – he is waiting to join the army, the narrator wins a prize for drawing the best civil defense signs and Sheldon pretends to be nazi. I did a research on our narrator Sylvia Plath, and I found out that this story is an episode from her childhood. Out of these information’s I must assume that Superman and Paula Brown’s new snowsuit must be a real story. The story starts with an in medias res. From the first line to the last, do we have a flashback. Everything in this story has been written in the first person. That means that we see through the eyes of our anonymous narrator, so the story is written with pronouns like I and me, and possessives like my and mine appear in the story. Our narrator gives us access to the events that takes place, and her feelings and thoughts about them. The narrator can easily seem loyal, and bring us readers on her side. Obviously this story could be retold from other characters...
