As professor said last week, this case is really the best case I ready ever. The author, David H. Maister, provides and describes abundant interesting and meaningful examples about “fill time” which is the time that organizations or shops provide for customers to consume the waiting time. For example, the best one for me is the case which to install mirrors near where the guests wait for the elevators. This simple move does not solve the problem about the efficiency of the elevators, but it does work and utilize human nature to distract guests’ attention, decreasing the waiting time in certain way. Also, he provides me a lot psychological thoughts about waiting, like the formula S= P-E,”a watched pot never boils” and so on. While I learn a lot from this case, I think of a famous Hotpot restaurant in China, HaiDiLao. It has tremendous branch stores in everywhere, and everyday a lot customers waiting in front of the store. It provides free snacks like seeds, watermelon, orange and etc. and different entertainments such as chess, poker, TV. You could see a lot customers sit in front of the store to wait for table, eating and playing, even part of the people are not going to have a meal here. Obviously, the price for this hotpot restaurant is relatively higher than relevant restaurant. But people keep running to this store, enjoy waiting and high quality services here. I think this is the store’s strategy that integrates the waiting experience into the total service experience and shortens the perception of waiting time, adding revenue in a profound and lasting way. I will keep reading to dig more valuable

Airline Security

...Since 9/11, our nation has been obsessed with air-travel security. Terrorist attacks from the air have been the threat that looms largest in Americans' minds. As a result, we've wasted millions on misguided programs to separate the regular travelers from the suspected terrorists -- money that could have been spent to actually make us safer. Consider CAPPS and its replacement, Secure Flight. These are programs to check travelers against the 30,000 to 40,000 names on the government's No-Fly list, and another 30,000 to 40,000 on its Selectee list. They're bizarre lists: people -- names and aliases -- who are too dangerous to be allowed to fly under any circumstance, yet so innocent that they cannot be arrested, even under the draconian provisions of the Patriot Act. The Selectee list contains an equal number of travelers who must be searched extensively before they're allowed to fly. Who are these people, anyway? The truth is, nobody knows. The lists come from the Terrorist Screening Database, a hodgepodge compiled in haste from a variety of sources, with no clear rules about who should be on it or how to get off it. The government is trying to clean up the lists, but -- garbage in, garbage out -- it's not having much success. The program has been a complete failure, resulting in exactly zero terrorists caught. And even worse, thousands (or more) have been denied the ability to fly, even though they've done nothing wrong. These denials fall into two categories: the...

...Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity: First Draft Shelly Morrow Grand Canyon University Spirituality in Health Care HLT-310V August 30, 2014 Abstract BACKGROUND: To care for a patient in a holistic manner requires one to be able to adapt to the diversity of faiths encountered as well as providing spiritual support as per the patient’s faith. OBJECTIVES: This paper aims at exploring three less well-known faiths and compare the philosophy of providing health care from the perspective of those faiths. The philosophies of the Amish, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and the Christian Science faiths will be compared as well as reviewing how these faiths compare to that of the other diverse Christian faiths and that of this writer’s personal beliefs. CONCLUSION/RELEVANCE TO NURSING CARE: It is found that if a health care provider is spiritually sound and open to providing that holistic care to a patient of any faith, one will find that this meets the needs of those patients with beliefs different than that of the health care provider. Case1

...------------------------------------------------- Case Analysis Guidelines & Checklist Overview: In many ways writing a short analysis paper (including recommendations and/or conclusions) is like writing an “action memo” or executive memo in business. The following sections go over how to organize and format your written work here in class and in the business world to be attractive to the reader and effective in getting your point across. Approach: * Read the entire case carefully before you actually begin to write the paper, and make careful notes (including your emotional reactions, which can be useful). Try to read the case once at least a few hours or a day earlier, and then again when you are writing the paper. This will give you time to reflect on the issues, and to think out effective recommendations before you actually have to articulate them. * Relate your analysis and recommendations as specifically as possible to concepts of the course as presented by the textbook, cases, materials on the course web site, articles, and the various guest speakers and class discussions This is where you show what you have learned and are able to apply. * Remember that you have to make careful selections of what is most important in a case, and then develop a coherent, logical way (including useful section titles) to present your arguments using the outline below. Although you may use the guidance questions to help call your attention to interesting phenomena...
