...Difficult People Marvin D. Cofield Jack Welch Management Institute Professor Ardith Bowman JWI 505 Business Communication 10 Feb 2013 Difficult People My topic of choice is on “How to deal with difficult people and their decisions even when they are your boss?” The reason I chose this topic is because I’m quite sure I’m not the only one that has had to deal with someone in upper management that is stubborn and difficult to deal with and the decisions that they make just make no sense whatsoever. This paper follows Munter’s Tell/Sell style of presentation (Munter, Ch 5 pp.86). I will attempt to capture the attention of the audience and show how the topic relates to them. The mental and emotional connection is the level of stress and anxiety most people get from being in the position and how to deal with it. The stress of not being to state the issues to the boss for fear of reprisal. I think this should be an interesting topic to speak on and share my experiences and results. Even if some haven't had the misfortune of ever being in that position, I'm sure just hearing what others have to say on the topic will be beneficial in some way. We have all been there at some point in our lives at one time or another and if you haven’t, consider yourself blessed and very fortunate. Dealing with difficult people. Even if you haven’t been on the job for a real long time, it is very unusual to have not found someone in the workforce that you can consider difficult to deal with...

...The High Art of Handling Problem People Dealing with difficult people is a special skill—and an increasingly necessary one. By Hara Estroff Marano, published on May 01, 2012 - last reviewed on July 02, 2012 The walk-in medical clinic was about to close for the day when Susan Biali got a call from one of her longtime patients. Could the doctor please hang in a bit longer? The caller was feeling very ill and needed to see her immediately. An exhausted Biali extended her already burdensome day and waited for the patient to arrive. Some time later, the woman sauntered in; she was perfectly fine. She just needed a prescription refill. "She totally lied to me," the Vancouver doctor recalls. "Afterwards, I was so upset that the degree of my reaction troubled me. I'm a general physician with some training in psychiatry. Yet I couldn't put my finger on exactly why I was so bothered. I thought it was a flaw in myself." Eventually, she identified what set her off: "You think you're in an innocuous situation—a typical doctor-patient encounter. But the woman took complete advantage of my compassion. Then, not only wouldn't she acknowledge the lie, but she looked at me blankly and demanded, 'Can't you just move on and give me my prescription?' She made me feel that I was the problem." Bottom of Form Ever wonder how an encounter goes so quickly awry? Doubt your own perceptions? Feel thrown totally off balance by another person? Find yourself acting crazy when you're really a very...

They are the biggest population in Nigeria, whose beliefs are based upon being led by one creator or god known as Chukwu, who created the universe. It is believed that the spirits are ancestral guardians who are protecting their living descendants, keeping a watch over them. Because of this belief, the living are to show appreciation for the dead and are to never speak badly of people who have passed. Those who have lived well receive proper burial rites, and ones that aren’t considered to have lived well aren’t...

...are people Hypocritical The song “America Is” has many similarities to the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Both authors talk about hypocrisy and want us to understand clearly the message that they are trying to send. In To Kill a Mockingbird hypocrisy was a common thing that the people in the society of Maycomb seemed to have. Tom Robinson a black man who was accused of raping a white woman had taken the guilt although he was innocent. Because of the hypocrisy in Maycomb, Tom would never be able to get his hopes up. Atticus (a white lawyer) took the responsibility to defend Tom and try to eliminate the hypocrisy in his town. However Atticus was the only one in his town who wanted to do the right thing and stands up for what he believes in but the others wouldn’t. They just wanted to go along with the situation and let whatever happens, happen. There is a quote in the song “America is” that says “America is the home of the hypocrite”. The quote is really connected to the book because the people in Maycomb let their hypocrisy grow among them and won’t do what is right. American people always say “All people should be treated equally” but their actions never show whether or not they do value what they say. The people in Maycomb are afraid, and possibly wanted to do the right thing especially telling the truth, but they did not because they fear that their decisions or actions will somehow unplease others. Atticus couldn’t be the eye opener for the people in Maycomb...

...Obnoxious People Have you ever been inside a store like Walmart or in a restaurant like Applebee’s and have witnessed some obnoxious people? Almost everywhere I look in public settings there is some sort of person being “obnoxious” or “disturbing.” There’s many different types of obnoxious people, but the three you should really know about are the braggers, the suck-ups, and lastly the phone freaks. The first type of obnoxious people are the braggers. They are the ones that enjoy telling you everything about them, but in a boastful tone. Braggers enjoy sounding like they are much better and on a higher level than everyone else, although they are typically not. My interpretation of braggers is after they have gone shopping they tell you what they got, where they got it, and how expensive it was. A lot of them started when they were teenagers and posted their new hot items on Snapchat. Another type of bragger is a parent who brags about their child. I think the worst is a mom that brags about her daughter to another mom. This happens all the time with "soccer moms" that think that their daughter is the best player. A pet peeve of mine is people posting on any social media account about how “perfect” their lives are with their “perfect’’ families. They tend to not actually have a perfect one. I think they enjoy covering up to people to sound better than it actually is. I feel they are doing this to try to brag to people on media and put themselves on a higher level. A final...

...DepEd adopts IP education agenda By TONY PE. RIMANDO January 18, 2012, 3:12pm PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines – A national policy framework (NPF) has been adopted by the Department of Education (DepEd) recently to answer the basic education needs of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) who live in mountain villages and sitios of Mindanao, and other areas of the country. Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro said the NPF for IPs is in line with the country’s commitment to achieve its Education for All (EFA) targets, and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which are in pursuant to the DepEd Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA). Luistro explained through DepEd Order No. 62, Series of 2011, which was received here lately by DepEd Region 9 Director Walter O. Albos, that the NPF was preceded by a consultative and participatory process held in designated venues of Southern Philippines. Albos said the consultations were followed by a national validation workshop where participants affirmed the principles of the draft framework and later recommended the formulation and implementation of an IP basic education program. The events were attended by qualified representatives from various IP communities in the country, together with concerned government agencies, and civil service society partners to ensure that IP groups can claim ownership of this framework, Albos quoted Luistro’s directive. The DepEd chief, Albos said, described the NPF as “an instrument for promoting...

...Meet New People Meeting new people is an unavoidable and important process in everyone’s lifetime. The desire to meet new people is triggered by different reasons including general friendship and romance. One could have lost old friends, shifted to a new location or wanted to meet more people during their lifetime. It is through meeting new people that we get new opportunities say in business or daily adventures, explore new ideas getting out of our own cocoons, increase knowledge and gain a better understanding of life in general. Once meeting them, it can be easy turning them into friends. We are then able to form close friendships which when well maintained and nurtured could create strong life bonds for the benefit of the parties involved including romantic relationships. These newly gained friends can point out any potential in us and through encouragement and advice, personal growth can be attained. However, we meet countless people but becoming friends with them is our own choice. The process of meeting new persons can be demanding to some people, but easy on others. It requires the right attitude for a person to get out there and fight any loneliness or rejection from a past relationship. One need to be psychologically prepared to meet new people in whichever way or place that there is. Patience is needed in the process as one can face rejection, some meeting ways aren’t up to the expectation and there is the need to try many ways in order to meet people for the...

...The Huaorani of Ecuador The Huaorani people of the Amazon are population of people that are trying to maintain their identity, customs, and traditions. The identity of the Huaorani is characterized by their self-sufficient life in and out of the forest whose biodiversity is one of the abundant in the world. The Huaorani are practicing a sustainable economy, where the natural resources are not over-exerted. The modern world is closing in on the Huaorani people. They are faced with “modernization” and other outside forces that are affecting their way of life. The Huaorani are caught between the conflicting objectives of petroleum development and forest conservation. These programs are undermining what constitutes the core of Huaorani culture, the relationship to the forest and their hunting-gathering semi-nomadic way of life. The Huaorani are located in the Ecuadorian headwaters of the Amazon and is comprise of about 1,500 people who are living in up to 24 temporary settlements in an area of almost 20,000 square kilometers, completely covered by rain forest. They are surrounded by related and alien tribes and ethnic groups with a total population of an estimated 150,000. For centuries the Huaorani have had to defend themselves against these groups and against gold and rubber prospectors; which provided the missionaries the justification for "pacification" ("The huaorani of,"). Huaorani which means “human beings” or “the people”, and refer to everyone else as cohouri...

...3/23/2012 Uncontacted Natives of Peru There are many different tribes of people in South America. It is estimated that over one hundred uncontacted tribes exist today around the globe. There are approximately 15 tribes that take residence in Peru. These people have had no contact with the civilized world, and live what we would think is a primitive lifestyle. They have never influenced our way of life in any way. Besides this, many oil and logging companies want to go in to these areas and exploit the natural resources that they hold. This is very dangerous for these types of people, as they have had no contact with anyone from the outside world. These oil and logging companies present a huge threat to people that have never done anything to exploit us. Some people try to deny the fact that these people even exist. The president of Peru was quoted saying that because they are uncontacted people, there is no evidence that they even exist in these rainforest areas. He actually stated that these people were invented by people trying to save the rainforest, and nothing more. This man is obviously being persuaded to let these companies come in and exploit the land for its natural resources. No person would willingly put the lives of others at risk unless it was a for-profit venture. For the president of Peru to portray this message in a news article that would be read by most of the people in Peru is outrageous. Money is once again getting in the way of human rights...

...Aboriginal people have been present across the continent of Australia for thousands of years and is recognised as the oldest civilisation in the world (GBRMPA, 2016). Aboriginal people were hunters and gatherers, and as their survival depended on it, they developed a great knowledge of their land and what it had to offer (GBRMPA, 2016). Townsville has been home to the Indigenous Tribes of the Wulgurukaba and Bindal People. A very important symbol for the Bindal People is the shooting star, and they believe that where the star fell, or the direction of where it fell meant danger coming, or that someone from that direction was in need of help or in danger. The Bindal People call their land “Thul Garrie Waja” (Townsville NAIDOC, 2016). Wulgurukaba...
