...CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE INTRODUCTION Premarital sex is sexual intercourse engaged in by persons who are unmarried. It is used in concern to individuals who are not yet of marriageable age or between adults who will surely marry eventually, but who are engaging in sexual activity prior to marriage. Sex is pleasurable, but in God's view, the primary purpose of sex is not recreation, but rather re-creation. In other words, sex is for reproduction. God does not limit sex to married couples to deprive pleasure from those who are unmarried. Rather, God commands against premarital sex in order to protect unmarried people from unwanted pregnancies, from children born to parents who do not want them, and to protect children from parents who are not prepared for them. Imagine, for a moment, a world without premarital sex. There would be no sexually-transmitted diseases, there would be no un-wed mothers, there would be no unwanted pregnancies, there would be no abortions, etc. To have physical intercourse is sex. Whether it is two unmarried partners or one married an done not - it is sex. Participating up to a point of actual physical intercourse, such as having oral sex, is sex. There are many factors to consider in this choice. Included in these factors are unwanted pregnancies, unwanted children, life-long emotional effects, regret, broken hearts and guilt are among them. The consequences of sexual immorality is breaking the law. The Bible contains many verses dealing...

...realize a lot of things about love, sex and marriage. Growing up in a conservative family sex was never an open topic, erotic topics and sexual jokes should be kept to oneself or in private. Sex often times is an uncomfortable topic but in our Catholic dominated culture it's considered as a taboo topic. People refuse to acknowledge it in fear of the disastrous and bad things that are correlated to sex due to its sensitivity, they consider it as sacred and holy. Time and sin had disrupted the importance of sex even in the lives of Christians. That should not be the case because our bodies are created by God in his image and we should not be ashamed of it. In the first part of the seminar the speaker asked a few volunteers to go up the stage, they shyly talked about their private parts and what they used to call it in front of a large audience. It was seen that the volunteers were embarrassed and uncomfortable and at the same time that the audience saw the topic as something green and were laughing about it. Fr. Maxwell then said that “ (erotic love) is not to be confused with Lust”. Eros One may come before or after another but they must not be mistaken as the same. Sin has disordered, disoriented and and distorted eros and our concept of sex. Eros is not just about sex, the real definition is that it “represents the interior force that drags man ...

...portrayal of men and their dominance over women in society, primarily Tess. Their dominance is shown in how the men act as the masters of society, but it is also seen in how the women in Tess unquestionably view the men as the dominant gender. Often, the women are blindly influenced and act passively when interacting with male characters such as Alec and Angel. They are also seen to be very dependent on the men, and the men acknowledge that, for that is expected of a woman in that age to not be able to make a living for herself. The women’s actions in Tess of the D’urbervilles correspond with what was expected of them in the Victorian era, and they do not try to break the social norm, but, instead, they accept it. In accordance with the perceptions of women in the Victorian era, the men in Tess of the D’urbervilles tremendously influenced the women in their lives. ...is complex and associated with the dynamic of personal relationships, which are further complicated by the issues of gender inequality in these relationships. Furthermore, in the Haitian culture, women often fail to have open discussions about sexuality and sexual health and especially the issue of forced sex. ...dropped. Many parents, politicians, and researchers disagree about the significance and the effects of this issue. Some believe teen pregnancy is a small indicator of society’s prominent predicaments; others argue that it maintains those crises. Teen pregnancy has a significant short-term and long-term impact on the American economy and not only affects teens, but also the nation. Teen pregnancies have financial ramifications that affect the whole country. An article in Public Health Reports states, “Giving birth in the teen years can limit one’s social and financial well-being” (Penman-Aguilar). Many believe that a link exists between the high teen pregnancy rates and poverty in the U.S. The United States spends billions every year on sex education programs and on helping the majority of teen mothers by federal aid. Many of these teen mothers frequently do not finish their high school education and end up needing the assistance of welfare and other forms of help from the government to survive. Without a high school diploma or GED, it is nearly improbable for teen moms to find work. Girls who get pregnant during their teen years are at a higher risk for complications, such as premature labor....

...English 109 Literary Criticism O.P. 1 Name: CUADRANTE, Maybel C. Date: July 27, 2015 Year & Section: III – English To His Coy Mistress Classic literature is indeed difficult to understand and interpret. You really need to read it more than ten times just to get the thought of the whole text. This poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell is indeed difficult to understand. I really had a hard time comprehending its whole text and to get its point and message. I also searched on its modern English translation to fully understand its message and for me to have this occasional paper. As I’ve continuously read the poem I’ve got some points that leads me into clues on what is it all about. This occasional paper is written based on my own understanding, interpretation and by the use of the four approaches- the historical-biographical and moral-philosophical approach. For me to have a better understanding about the poem and for me to use the four approaches, I looked for some information and the references are indicated at the last page of my paper. Andrew Marvell was a metaphysical poet usually focused on love and relationship with God. During the sixteenth and seventeenth century, the commonly used themes or motifs of literary pieces are about love, religion and the so-called Latin term carpe diem which means “seize the day”. Before we go on with the four approaches, let us first look into the text. So the literary piece is a lyric poem written...

...THE DUALITY OF WOMEN’S SEXUALITY IN SEVENTEENTH AND EIGHTEENTH CENTURY PURITAN MASSACHUSETTS Liesl Schnuck November 1, 2011 Due to the strength of their belief in and fear of God, colonial Massachusetts’s society regulated women’s sexuality through a paradoxical relationship: women as saints and women as sinners. Introduction In the religion-obsessed society of colonial Massachusetts, Puritan beliefs dominated contemporary views on sexuality, especially with regard to women. Although Puritan ministers understood human nature’s inability to avoid sexual relations, they adamantly professed that sex must not interfere with religion. In order to create stability within their society, ministers and lawmakers turned towards the women to implement and describe sexual regulation. Women’s social function was not only complex, but also difficult to define. As historian N.E.H. Hull notes, “theirs was a special place, not altogether enviable—for in this land of saints and sinners, they were viewed as both saintlier and more sinful than men.” Not only did society expect and desire women to act morally, but society also feared women for their supposed tendencies to act corruptly. Carol F. Karlsen accurately differentiates between these two identities by naming these women either “handmaidens of the devil” or “handmaidens of the Lord.” This distinction demonstrates the binary opposition of women’s place in society that existed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. By...

...Abigail's manipulation comes out in her relationship with John Proctor. She demonstrates her sly perception by saying these words to him: “I have a sense for heat, John, and yours has drawn me to my window, and I have seen you looking up, burning in your loneliness. Do you tell me that you've never looked up at my window?” (Miller 21). In this moment, she gets him to admit his continued love for her even though he is trying to repair his marriage from his previous affair with Abigail. Abigail then attacks Elizabeth in an effort to convince John to come back to her saying, “Oh, how I marvel how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-” (Miller 22). Abigail’s compliment to John and slam to Elizabeth were both meant to manipulate him not to give up on her. As Abigail talks to Reverend Hale and Parris, she tries to make them believe...

...Pornography’s Effect on Sexual Crime Rates Overview: Our Research Topic Be it in film, magazines or even fiction, pornography has always been a controversial topic. It is many things to many people: a guilty pleasure, a shameful addiction, a stress relief, foreplay, an obscene creation or even a vulgar pastime. However, as time passes, pornography is becoming decreasingly taboo, and this could result in a significant impact on societal values and perceptions. Introduction: Questions and Objectives Long has there been war between those who are for pornography and those against it. Is pornography harmful or harmless? Just what are the effects of pornography on society? Is it just simply a harmless way to release pent-up lust or does it play a big role in shaping society? Could minutes of watching pornography a day affect society in a big way - say for instance, the rates of sexual crimes like rape, molest and sexual harassment? In this essay, we will attempt to prove that there is a strong and direct correlation between pornography and sexual crimes by critically examining the arguments provided before we draw a conclusion. Our hypothesis is that, indeed, increased pornography viewer-ship will cause a rise in sexual crimes. This is an easy conclusion to draw, as one would expect those who frequent pornography to be more sexually imaginative, active and accepting as compared to people who would normally not watch pornography. We are tackling...
