Research Proposal

...Yvonne Prutilpac English 102-056 Charity Ginerich Research Proposal The topic that I would like to research for the final research paper is the issue of ethics in regards to registering a pet to be a service animal. I am arguing that it is morally acceptable to get your pet registered as a service animal even when there are no known disabilities of the owner. I have some experience with this topic because I have a dog that I recently got registered as a service animal. I have no disabilities but was still able to get him registered by law. This is a very easy task to do and anyone is capable to do so. There are two obvious sides to this argument. One side is that it is morally acceptable for any animal to be able to get certified as a service dog; while the other is that it is wrong and could be disrespectful to get a pet registered when there is no disability. The common ground to this issue is that an animal should be registered as a service animal as long as it is well behaved and causes no harm to people or animals around it. “The term ‘service animals’ describes animals who render assistance of some sort to people with disabilities (Malamud). What if we all have disabilities of some sort? Because I am arguing that it is morally acceptable to get a pet service trained without having a disability, I hope to get my readers to realize that this could benefit people in many ways. Many animals provide services to people every single day even when they are not registered...

Classical Conditioning Paper

...Classical Conditioning Paper PSY/ 390 May 05, 2014 Professor Chelsea Hansen Classical Conditioning Paper Abstract: Throughout this paper a theory of classical conditioning will be described and detailed. A selected scenario in which I the writer was able to apply a classical conditioning theory. The description of the scenario will be detailed as well as demonstrated on a chart which was prepared in order to illustrate how someone would apply a classical conditioning theory to the selected scenario. It is important to remember that classical conditioning is a technique that is used in primarily behavioral training. Usually it is when a naturally occurring stimulus is paired with a responsive stimulus. Afterwards a more previously neutral stimulus is then paired with the more naturally occurring stimulus. The outcome is that the previously neutral stimulus comes in to evoke and the response is without the presence of the naturally occurring stimulus. The most common names given to the two following elements are known as the conditioned stimulus and the conditioned responses. Classical conditioning came to life through the hard work and dedication from the well world renowned investigations of Psychologist Ivan Pavlov. Pavlov Born September 14, 1849 in Russia knew from very early he loved the study of psychology and worked hard on focusing on the Classical Conditioning theory “Operant and classical conditioning are two different ways in which organisms come to reflect...

...identify a specific manufacturer. Even today it continues to advance and evolve to become more helpful in finding and punishing the individuals responsible. History Bomb detection has been as issue throughout history since the inception of mass detonation devices. At first the main method was through looking at the shape of the device since the explosives were large and had a defined look based on the materials, detonation device and such. Usually it was done after the fact by searching for the components, explosive residue and such to look for a specific trait of a bomb maker or type of explosive used. It has always been the driven by the research for our military to create more weapons and ways to keep them from detection. It started with humans looking at the objects, and then advanced to using X-rays and such, to detection dogs, dolphins, and so on up to today’s vapor detection systems. Animal Boredom

...scared the squirrel away. Although it looked totally scared, it was still roaming around the window as if it were bored to tears. Seeing this, a stroke of happiness rushed through my face and I knew I had found what I was looking for: boredom in animals, the topic that this paper focuses on. The study of animal boredom has now become a wide area of scientific research. Until recently, the dominant belief was that the study of boredom could not be attached to any natural sciences since animal boredom could not be experimentally...

...During my day-to-day life, I have one problem that plagues me every day. I have the worst habit of procrastinating, whether it pertains to work, school, or even household activities. As soon as my alarm goes off in the morning, I am already procrastinating by snoozing the alarm and then taking my dogs out to potty at the absolute latest time I can without being late to work. This sometimes becomes a problem when one of my dogs is taking forever to go and I end up having to take them back inside before they are finished. I feel horrible for having to do this and wish I could allow myself more time in the mornings so that this will not happen. My dogs taking forever to go potty in the morning is not a good excuse for being late to work. I am such a procrastinator, that I am procrastinating right now as I am writing this paper. It is 8:30 p.m. on the day that this assignment is due, and I am just now getting started. I also tend to procrastinate when it comes to house cleaning or any other chore. I hate having a mess house, but it takes me forever to get up and clean. In order for me to eliminate the problem that I have, the easiest and first thing that I will do is go to a search engine such as www.Google.com and type in the phrase "how to overcome procrastination." I will try to find any information on how I can overcome this problem, and what causes me to be a procrastinator. The first thing that comes to my mind is that I'm just lazy, but I do not think that I am...

...Zenith Pet Food Case Paper Zenith Pet Foods, Inc. is a large distributor of show-grade dog food. The company distributes only within the United States. Its plan is to introduce the product in the Boston area. Zenith dog food is a high-grade, frozen dog food made of quality, organic ingredients. The target market has been show-dog kennels in the past, but the entity has recently turned its attention to the dog as a household pet. The product promises to produce a shinier, healthier coat on the consuming animal. Zenith needs freezer space to sell its products, and the plan is to distribute through supermarkets, where the majority of the dog food is sold based on Zenith’s market studies. The company faces a very large amount of competition within the dog-food market. Some of those competitors include Dog Chow distributed by Nestle Purina Pet Care, which sells 23 percent of dry dog foods in the supermarkets, Kal Kan Pedigree distributed by MasterFoods USA, selling 18 percent of wet dog food, and Kibbles ‘N Bits distrusted by Del Monte Foods, which sells 69 percent of semi-moist dog foods in the supermarkets. Although competition exists in the market, there are no competitors that distribute dog food in a frozen, all-fresh form in the freezer aisle of the grocery store. There is a threat of new entrants into the market or product substitutions, but because Zenith will be a pioneer in the field of frozen dog foods, only time and succession would be able to determine what companies...

Bestiality

...published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior in 2009. The focus of their research is on the subject of people who actually prefer to have sex with animals, in this case horses, instead of other people. As far as the hypothesis, apparently these same authors had previously published an article describing people who are into bestiality as being very rare. In this article they are doing a case study on a male who is different than widely held stereotype of the not very bright country bumpkin having sex with barnyard animals. They are also presenting a lot of information on the subject from a large group of people on the internet who are into bestiality. They recant their previous opinion in the prior article stating it was rare. They now say that it is a lot more prevalent than it was earlier thought. After their initial article they had a lot o anonymous people from the internet chiming in about this subject. They could not verify any of the information except for one guy who called himself possum. They also include in their article the info from some other case studies involving people from the internet. One included 82 men and 11 women who admitted to sex with animals. The average age was 38 and about half of them had graduated from college. There were two other studies cited in this work that used similar people, one with 113 men and 3 women, this time predominantly sex with dogs and another with 114 men of around 27 years old and 83% graduated college....

Camp Bow Wow

...Camp Bow Wow Corporate Budgeting: Final Project My companies name is Camp Bow Wow, which is an overnight boarding facility for mainly dogs but other animals are welcome. The company was started in 2009 when the owner (Kasandra, myself) decided to become the owner of a dog named Buddy. All was well until Kasandra had a vacation planned and could not find any boarding facilities to meet the standards she was looking for. She had also recently inherited a large some of money in the amount of about 200,000 from the passing of her grandparents who also shared the love of animals with her. Kasandra used that money to find a place she could live and turn into a boarding facility and luckily she was able to find the perfect house with lots of land in the middle of town, so she got to work and the company shared its grand opening with the community in spring of 2011. The company has successfully been around for almost 3 years now offering products such as boarding, bathing, nail trims, and other products to ensure your animal is safe and happy. The location is right in the middle of the town of Appomattox so it’s perfect for people who are traveling in either direction and is known for their non-traditional animal boarding facilities, while targeting mainly dog breeds the facility is open to animals of several kinds. The reason we say its non-traditional is because the animals are not just kept in kennels all day and walked a few times unless requested by the owner, but actually...

Animal Testing

...used for Research During the past ten years, a major controversy over the use of animals in biomedical and behavioral research has arisen. The debate about using animals for medical testing has been ongoing for years. The struggle is usually between animal rights activists and scientist. I believe that animal testing is imperative to the progression of medical cures, procedures and drugs. Scientists have been solving medical problems, developing new techniques and treatments, and curing diseases by using animals in biomedical research. Animal rights advocates believe that animals should not be exploited by humans, and that animals have the same rights as humans. Anti-vivisectionists oppose the use of animals in medical research. They believe that medical researchers are cruel and inhumane. Animal Welfare does not oppose all use of animals in research. They oppose inhumane and unnecessary use of animals and fight to eliminate pain and suffering of animals. On the Contrary, scientists argue that animal research is necessary because it helps them develop medications, vaccines, or new procedures to treat or prevent diseases for both humans and animals. Most research projects either do not involve pain or the pain is alleviated with analgesic or anesthetic drugs. They understand that pain causes stress for the animals, and this stress can seriously affect the results of the study. With all these controversies about this issue, why are animals necessary in research? Because...

Unfortunately, she never recommended which species to try and I didn’t possess the personal knowledge at that time to make the correct decision on my own. However, having the opportunity to research the history, science and uses of skullcap for this paper, I now have a greater understanding of its significance and healing abilities. For centuries, skullcap has been considered sacred in numerous cultures. The females of Native American tribes used this plant not only for...
