...From grade school children are taught that time is money; therefore, they should spend their time wisely. In “The Protestant Ethic: Just Another “Urban Legend”?” the author Jonathan Klemens explains that having work ethic is quite common in our society and it can be embodied by those who have “found work that provided both a service to the society and personal satisfaction”. Klemens associates time management, modesty, and integrity with work ethic. He believes that these traits produce a strong economy and society because they are found in people who want to make a change and are willing to step forward and lead. I disagree with Klemens claim that work ethic is strongly entrenched as a powerful and valued American social trait because workers are being exploited and suppressed, they feel disengaged, and they have habitual jobs. People today struggle to stay financially afloat resulting in them being...

...of a common household. Compared to the population mean, our target hotel consumed about 130.34kwh/m2, which is a comparatively large consumption. The reason why we disregard other resources consumption, like water consumption, is that this hotel has installed facilities as their infrastructures for water use efficiency. The reason why the ballroom (which is mainly for accepting customers, holding banquets and arranging meeting and other versatile functions) is our target objective is that the ballroom has a high utilization rate compared with such like bedrooms and entertainment areas etc. Another reason is that the ballroom takes up the largest space among the single area in the hotel and the solar panels are going to be installed on the roof of the ballroom. As the electricity consumption varies from season to season in that during summers and winters, the peaks of consumption will occur, especially in the summer because the AC systems, including all refrigerating facilities, keep working for 24 hours. Meanwhile, considering different alternatives that may be used as the energy resource for the hotel, solar panels are suggested after these factors have been taken into consideration that the high utilization rate of the solar panel, no transportation fees for resources supply, low installation cost and last but not the lease, the efficiency and durability of both facilities and energy. These panels...

...has a strict rhyme of ababcadcd. The language of the poem is conversational, and the narrator poses many interrogatives (asks questions). Larkin uses a lot of religious imagery and words, some are used as they are intended, but others are used in a blasphemous way. Blasphemy is the act of expressing lack of reverence for God, but if one doesn’t believe in God can what they say really be considered blasphemy? That is just something to consider while reading the poem. The title can be interpreted in a few different ways: the act of going to church, the customs that keep the church alive, visiting the church as one would a theatre, and the disappearance of the church (Philip Larkin and Christianity). Once I am sure there’s nothing going on I step inside, letting the door thud shut. Another church: matting, seats, and stone, And little books; sprawlings of...

...Commanding Heights Episode 1 The Battle of Ideas The film, Commanding Heights, explains the history of the world’s economy that lead up to globalization and the trends that we may anticipate into 21th century. The film offers insights into how economic theories can help explain how the market and other economic factors come into play for control of a country’s economy. The two important economists of the age shared air-warden duty on the roof of King’s College, an English gentleman and an Austrian exile. Personal friends, but intellectual rivals. Through their commitment to sourcing and roasting the highest quality Arabic coffee in the world, Starbucks has become engrained in our society and many of those throughout the world, offering a wide array of products ranging from more than 30 blends of premium coffee, hot and iced espresso beverages, teas, merchandise, baked pastries, sandwiches, and more. This report will analyze and assess certain operations within Starbucks, and how these operations are able to add value to Starbucks and work to meet customer needs. In particular, we will look at Starbucks first rate service quality and product quality, their ability to manage a global supply chain and inventory, and their continuing effort of making process improvements. ...Becoming a Critical Thinker By Dr. Lew A. Weider “A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.” Proverbs 14:15 What Was He Thinking?! How many times have we said these words out loud as we watch reality home videos on television? You know the kind—the people who will do anything to get on TV! Like the guy that took his sled up onto the roof after a heavy snowfall. His bravado was showing all over as he stood on the roof, waving his sled for all to see. The stunt he intended to perform was to go sledding off of his roof and happily land on the deck below. No doubt he thought that all of that snow would help him make the perfect soft landing. Boy was he wrong! It was a brutal scene. He made a crash landing onto the deck. There was no more bravado. His body was crumpled in a heap in the midst of the splintered pieces of his sled. What was he thinking? His passion to attempt the impossible overshadowed his ability to think at all. We often have to set aside our passion to think clearly, to think critically, in order to make wise decisions. Critical Thinking It is a common practice we do every day, but we may never even be aware of it. For example, in the English language, how do you know whether the word “r-e-a-d” should be understood as a directive to “read a book,” or if it is to be understood as a past-tense word describing a moment that someone “had already read that book last week?” Critical thinking. Another example is with...

...Sustainable Habitat mission – Climate Change action plan for Chandigarh The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built. - Frank Lloyd Wright A National Mission on Sustainable Habitat was launched to improve energy efficiency in buildings, manage solid wastes and modal shift to public transport. The Mission aims to promote energy efficiency as an integral part of urban planning and urban renewal through three initiatives: (i) The Energy Conservation Building Code, which addresses optimization of building energy demand; (ii) Recycling of material and Urban Waste Management with a special focus on producing power from waste, biochemical conversion, waste water use, sewage utilization and recycling options wherever possible and others; (iii) Better urban planning and modal shift to public transport to ensure efficient and convenient public transport. In addition, the Mission will address the need to adapt to future climate change by improving the resilience of infrastructure, community based disaster management, and measures for improving the warning system for extreme weather events. Capacity building would be an important component of this Mission. As part of the Mission for Sustainable Habitat and Green Code for Chandigarh, detailed action plan and guidelines have been prepared by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) which could be City’s vision for sustainability.
