...I recently attended a concert entitled Masterpieces of the Guitar. The concert was performed by a solo artist named Robert Wetzel. The concert was presented by The Grossmont Guitar Guild, it was held at the Cuyamaca College of Performing Arts on October 29, 2012. This report will detail my experience and give an accurate, unbiased review of “Masterpieces of the Guitar.” Before the performance began I had the opportunity to sample the program and read through it thoroughly. The most important thing I learned from the program was information about the artist performing. I also learned about some of the music being performed. Pertaining to the artist performing his solo act, Robert Wetzel, he has a rich history in music. According to the program he began studying guitar at the young age of fifteen. He studied under master guitarist’s Angel Romero, Pepe Romero and Celedonio Romero. If you couldn’t already tell, all three of his masters were related and he considers himself part of this lineage. Today, he is a resident of San Diego, California. In addition to his performances with the guitar he also teaches music at San Diego State University, Grossmont College, Southwestern College and the University of California. I also learned, from the program about the songs I was about to hear performed by Wetzel. The artists listed include: Milan, Narvaez, Frescobaldi, Scarlatti,, Bach, Schumann, Debussy, Satie, Ravel, Moreno-Torroba, Tansman and Presti. I think this was important because...

...same way. Not much of what I define theatre has been changed because the performances I saw and what I have read have only supported my thought of theatre in the first place. I think art is a talent that many people use to express emotions and feelings. Art conveys a message or purpose to an audience. It relates to society in various ways which then are appreciated and valued by many. And I still think that performing arts are arts that are performed. Some forms of performing arts are music, drama, magic, and dance. These types of arts stray from paint and clay because the art itself is admired after it is complete. The arts that must be performed are admired in the process. Theatre to me is a collaborative art where many people come together and perform their role. Some people are the actors, but others work behind the scenes to help make the acting a better show. Theatre is a branch of performing arts. So as a part of performing arts, theatre focuses on the individual performers and how they create a drama. Theatre combines the performing arts and visual arts to create a single artistic form. Some of the besides the actor roles include: stagecraft, stage manager, costume artist, make-up artist, and even artists and musicians. I now know more about what tasks are included in these roles. I still like the set designer or architecture job the best. Anything that involves the actual building or creating of the set is the job for me. I would find myself...

...Chinese Opera Company Classical Chinese opera has existed for over 250 years, starting about the same time, more or less, as the beginnings of Italian opera. Unlike Italian opera, which is really a sung drama, Chinese opera is a mixture of high-pitched singing, acting, clowning, acrobatics and kung fu, with many unique conventions such as masks, face-painting, minimalist stage setting, and elaborate costumes giving no regard to different dynasties in China’s history. It relies upon the audience’s own imagination and understanding to fill the gaps. Because of the sheer number of Chinese worldwide, naturally commands a much larger audience overseas than at home. Frequently, an evening’s programme would consist of excerpts from different operas with no relation to each other. Given this, The Chinese Opera Company (TCOC)has attempted to combine traditional opera with modern theatrical concepts. Classical Chinese opera was banned in China during Mao’s Cultural Revolution but is now attracting young audiences while satisfying older connoisseurs. The older population sees it as a link to their Chinese Heritage; the youth see it as a statement of China’s acceptance in the word. Expatriates see it as a sign of Chinese culture which separates them from Western Culture. However, with the acceptance of the various cultures in China, it has become clear that Chinese opera exists in many forms depending on the ethnic groups which comprise modern China. Reaching...

...The Tempest Review The Tempest had many interesting qualities and factors in the show that made the play particularly enjoyable. A few of the unique characteristics were the circus theme, the aerialist, and the costume design along with the actors’ makeup. I think that these elements made the play more interesting to the audience, and truly engrossed the audience in the unique showing of The Tempest. The setting of The Tempest in a circus was quite a distinct portrayal of the show. It fit the exotic performers of the play very well and added a unique twist to the play. I think that the addition of a circus to The Tempest made the show more interesting and drew the attention of the audience. It certainly made the play quite exciting to watch. The performers possessed what would be known as different traits, such as the Tattooed Strong Man Freak. As far as society is concerned, someone with odd features like that would fit into a circus or a freak show. I think the aspect of a circus was a great idea and made the work of Shakespeare more appealing to the audience. The aerialist was one of the most fascinating parts of the play. The elegance and grace needed to balance oneself and perform on silks is a captivating performance. The show put on by an aerialist is not typically found in a normal play and I think it makes this particular play stand out in my mind from other performances I have seen. The act of balancing precariously on silks is an enthralling show which put me...

...Performance Management at Vitality Health Enterprises, Inc. 1.) Who should evaluate employee’s performance? What should leaders do when (individual, team, organization) performance is lacking? Every leader in an organization should evaluate employee’s performances, whoever a leader in an organization has it’s own sub-ordinates; their sub-ordinates’ performances should be evaluated. Once an individual, team or organization performances are lacking, leaders should either motivate or penalize the lack of performances. In real world, I think both works. Through a good rewarding system, one should be motivated for gaining a bigger paycheck or recognition form their senior. Everyone gets pay for their services, under a good rewarding systems, one who performed better than required can get a better pay or promotion always work in a real business world. Vise versa, one who didn’t pay less or layoff sounds fair. Employee evaluations can always be a positive, encouraging, and a good outline on how they are doing in the many categories of their job responsibilities. On the other hand, it can also be considered a waste of time and doesn’t work if neither leader nor their sub-ordinates take it seriously and just go through the motions. 2.) Should the new performance review system at Vitality Health be revised? What changes would you recommend to the new performance management system? How should the changes be implemented? Carefully consider the consequences of your recommendations...

...What is a “Needs Assessment”? From Wikipedia: “A needs assessment is a systematic process for determining and addressing needs, or "gaps" between current conditions and desired conditions or "wants". The discrepancy between the current condition and wanted condition must be measured to appropriately identify the need.” To us at our facility, this is the basis for project creation and more specifically the creation of training materials. When a department requests our assistance in the creation of a course, the very first thing we need to ascertain is the “Gap”. What is the performance gap? We define the “Performance Gap” as the portion between where we are as a unit, department or section and where we optimally would like to be. In a given setting there are a series of tasks that together comprise a job function. The inability to perform any of these tasks can be detrimental to the job function and cause a breakdown in the organization. In researching the reason a given task is not being performed, we look at personnel and training aspects. If a person can perform a task due to lack of knowledge, then the performance gap is a training issue. If the person can’t perform the task due to facility or building constraints, then we deem the breakdown a process issue. Figure 1. Training Needs Assessment Flowchart When conducting a needs analysis we are seeking to identify the “needs” as areas for improvement. These areas can then be addressed in a more specific way to...

...This training is designed for customer service agents that handle a high volume of phone calls for the company Lenovo. This two day training program is provided to help the 20 bottom performing agents on how to increase their customer service and educate them on how to better utilize their resources to assist customers in resolving their issues to achieve performance requirements. A reactive Training Need Analysis (TNA) is much needed before conducting the training because it can help conclude whether training can correct the performance gap that agents are currently facing. The call center industry is facing more challenges especially during the holidays because of the increase of calls due to angry customers not getting the right product, a delay in their products, price matches and a number of other things that is driving the call volume numbers. The TNA is the first step to exposing what needs to be changed in order to continue to provide great customer service to the customers. An in-house trainer will perform the needs analysis to collect, and document information concerning any of the following issues: performance problems, anticipated introduction to new processes, and what is benefited from the opportunity to identity these possible solutions. To approach these concerns first as mentioned before individual performance from each agent needs to be analyzed in order to see which agents actually need the training. The top performers of course at this point are...

...Misheailia Neil Which performances contained the greatest value in performance content (style, genre) and characteristics (audience response, performer interaction, company size, training; length of performance, structure, technique)? Identify 3 performances to build the content of your argument. (Noises Off, Orchesis, and Vivo Flamenco Carlota Santana) The performing arts has always had trivial meaning within the academic and artistic portions of my life, but after being continuously exposed to the Elmira College Encore Program for two consecutive semesters my creative side has truly developed after attending each of the performances. Each individual show provided a diverse atmosphere accompanied by a lively essence that compelled me to seek more. The distinctive characteristics and content of the discrete productions further encouraged the development of my artistic taste with each performance consisting of a remarkable blend of style, technique, musical composition, choreography, acting, and performer interaction. Each performance seemed to be almost incomparable to the last and it was such a pleasure to be an audience member at every show I attended. The development of my artistic taste allowed me to easily depict which characteristics and content were most valuable within a performance. Without some of the content and...

...Ubu the Sh*t was probably one of the most bizarre things I have ever encountered in my whole life. I’ve heard how amazing the play was and how fun it is to watch, but that was such an understatement. To be honest, I had no idea how a play that was about “clowns” would go about and how it would capture my attention since I have a fear of clowns. However, the cast and crew played their parts brilliantly and had me laughing countless times while feeling a bit uncomfortable due to the oddness and suspense of the plotline. The cast was successful in causing the audience to feel a mixture of emotions while keeping them entertained and excited. Due to the set-up of the stage and outfits, the cast was able to capture the audience’s attention by articulating the different types of genres that the play consisted of. Many comical songs and parts were implemented in order to create a less serious and comical atmosphere. Throughout the play, different scenes occurred by setting up three different layouts and areas in order to show the separation of beliefs. The themes became more apparent due to the staging of the lighting focusing on only the characters during the first half of the play. The second half slowly lightened up the stage, showing that hope was coming for the son of the king in order to reclaim the throne. At the beginning and the end of the play, it was almost pitch black, with barely anything visible other than the cast of the characters circling around the centerpiece of the...
