...Perseverance Between Dog and Human Much perseverance is needed when one is pushed into unfamiliar situations. Buck, from Call of the Wild, is thrown into many new situations, constantly having to adjust to new owners, new dogs, and new jobs. However, my mother was a young college student when she was suddenly unable to get to work, therefore unable to pay rent. Whether it’s scrambling for a place to live or working a sled in the Yukon, both my mother and Buck had to persevere. In Call of the Wild, Buck is forced into a new life with new owners that is lacking in resources required to survive, and must learn to use what he has. But the main theme shown in both is "in the wild, there are many factors which determine one's chances of survival." The two main characters go through similar events in their respective stories. The two men go through conflict of man vs. nature and are in comparable settings. In TFB an unidentified main character travels through extremely cold weather in order to make to his camp site. The grey also takes place in the north, a terrible storm causes their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness. It is significantly cold in TFB: “Fifty degrees below zero meant 80 degrees of frost. ...Over the course of my final two years in high school, my opinion of English literature’s importance and relevance has changed due to the authenticity and complexities in literature. In my junior year, I was intrigued by Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild a biographical novel which embodied themes of transcendentalism unusual to our world today. The divergent thinking expressed by the main character rejected social norms and chose self-enlightenment in the wilderness. Furthermore, I believe I grew most as a reader during my senior year, due to Trevor Noah’s satirical yet original read, Born a Crime. Those two works of literature really caused me to enjoy reading and writing about inquiries into global perspectives regarding life. In Jon Krakauer’s...

He never gave up, on his friends, on the owls, but most of all, he never gave up on the hope that things will turn out alright. I believe that true perseverance is to fight for what you believe is right and never give up, no matter what obstacles stand in your way. Florida is one giant tourist attraction, full of crowds, people, and...

...in Nazi Germany experienced great loss, overwhelming fear, and total alienation. During the Holocaust, over 6 million Jews were systematically rounded up and deported to concentration camps, where many lost their lives. In the book, there are many priceless lessons that it teaches: perseverance, independence and courage. topic There were many situations I which Eliezer had to suffer through, most were the worst of times. Elie had lived through a lot in the short time he was in the concentration camp. The constant beatings and starvation ate at him but he was still able to persevere. One day when Idek was venting his fury, I happened to cross his path. He threw himself on me like a wild beast, beating me in the chest, on my head, throwing me to the ground and picking me up again… (Elie 53). Franek bullied Elie over the crown in his mouth and threatened something bad would happen to him if he did not hand it over to him “Franek the foreman, one day noticed the gold crown in my mouth: ‘Let me have your crown kid.’ I answered that I could not because without that crown I could no longer eat….” (Wiesel 54-55) that ties back to your thesis statement.) It takes unimaginable strength and perseverance to go through what Elie went through, many people wouldn’t be able to bear it. Independence is a virtue that many people cannot develop, they spend their lives depending on someone else to solve their problems or they are very needy. Elie wasn’t very independent at the start...

...accepted that men are the stronger, preeminent gender in society. Throughout history, it can be seen that males, as a whole, have been perceived as dominant and impervious species to which nothing is inferior. Women were considered insignificant and useful only for irrelevant tasks. Evidence of this can be seen throughout the world, from prehistoric cave paintings in Lascaux, France dated back to 17000 BCE. in which men are depicted hunting and defeating wild beasts, to the Holy Bible where women played a secondary role. It was not until much later that women prevailed and made their mark on the world. One of the periods in history in which men’s role in society was at its height was during the Victorian Era. This era was a time in English history in which the British empire flourished and prospered. There was a revival in the arts, especially, gothic literature. In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mina Murray symbolizes the modern woman through her relationships with the other characters, her strong will to participate and learn, and her perseverance. Wilhelmina Murray’s closest friend in the novel was Lucy Westenra. Mina and Lucy were childhood friends, but were not of the same social standing. This was so because Mina’s mother worked for the Westenra household. Therefore, Mina was the child of a servant, which did not entitle her to the same privileges that Lucy had. As the two girls grew up, they each encountered different obstacles which shaped them into unique women. Jonathan Harker, as...
