...I feel a sense of accomplishment because all the hours, hard work, and dedication that I have committed in my education has brought me here. If my life was a checklist, college would've been on the top of the list written in bold print. It has proven to me that even though I am an immigrant to this country, I am still capable of reaching a higher level of education. Being able to experience this accomplishment has taught me that anything else is achievable if I am willing to sweat for it. I have come a long way from knowing only the words “yes” and “no” to writing a scholarship essay for college. By coming to college, I know that I have open up many doors that will lead me to an endless amount of opportunities. Although life can sometimes be unexpected, the decision of coming to college was something that was in my control. I am proud that I was able to reach this long-term goal and that the sacrifices my parents have made did not go...

...An Analysis of Personal Ethics and Decision Making University of Phoenix COM 526: Managerial Communication Group MIAA0CWRK6 Barbara Nagle, MA August 11, 2008 An Analysis of Personal Ethics and Decision Making I am running late to work. I have a meeting scheduled with senior management at the start of the business day to propose a new project. The project will generate new revenue for the organization. I am two blocks from the office, and the meeting starts in five minutes. As I approach an intersection, I see the traffic light change from green to yellow. Two cars in front of me pass through the traffic light while it is yellow. I know I will not be able to traverse the intersection before the traffic light changes to red. No other vehicles appear to be crossing the intersection. What do I do? What would you do? Every day one faces decisions resembling the one presented in one’s personal and professional lives. Often one has little or no time to deliberate the alternatives. How does one analyze the available choices and make a decision? What guides the decisions? – Personal ethics. Ethics can be described as a set of values that guide individual or group conduct. One’s “set of values” is derived from one’s personal experience, one’s culture, and one’s workplace (Taft, 2007). Thus, personal, cultural, and organizational values influence one’s decision making process. Types of Values Personal values originate from one’s background...

...The Self PSY/555 April 15, 2013 Dr. Anthony The Self The development of the self involves several interacting factors. Each of these factors contributes to ultimately determine one’s self-concept as well as self-esteem and self-presentation. The essential purpose of this paper is to define the concept of the self including how each individual develops a self-concept. Furthermore, the relationship between the self and emotion and how this relationship affects an individual’s self-esteem will be examined. Finally, an analysis will be provided of the relationship between the self and behavior and how this relationship affects and individual’s self-presentation. The concept of the self lies within an individual’s reality of behavior and numerous representations, perceptions, and schemas that encompass human thought processes. The self is said to exist within a framework of social interactions in which one engages in regular contact with other selves (Myers, 2008). To understand the concept of the self, one must comprehend how one’s self-concept is developed within each individual. Development of Self-Concept An individual’s self-concept is described as the perception one has of oneself and who they are in relation to the world around them. According to Myers (2008), it is the piecing together of the potential answers to the question ‘who am I?’ that constitute one’s complete self-concept. The self-concept is also comprised of self-schemas, which can be described as one’s...

...Ethics, Morals, Values and Beliefs Personal Ethics and Life David J. Graves Business Ethics Ottawa University Professor Donald Dunn July 7, 2013 This paper explains and defines my personal ethics, morals, values and beliefs, which will continue to grow as my maturity grows. My personal ethics in life stems from my family, my parents and from the continuous mistakes and accomplishments that I have made in my life. A famous philosopher, Frederick Nietzsche once said, “That which does not kill me makes me stronger.” I try to live my life by this principal, as difficult as it may be. This paper does not pretend to provide definitions for complex terms such as morality or ethics; it is merely a means to orient the reader in understanding my personal ethics in life. One of the most important characteristics of moral judgments is that they express our values. Not all expressions of values are also moral judgments, but all moral judgments do express something about what we value. Expressing one’s personal grasps of ethics and life may not always be understood in the context of the world at large, the environment or amongst the others in the household. This is usually due to the every person has some difference, small or great, in the development of their belief systems. Belief systems are established early in life through the environment of home, church, school or other social gatherings which help mold or shape their belief. Most of these beliefs and patterns of behavior are established...

...challenges that may arise from evaluating the Greenby Community Mental Health Center will be covered. Finally, why an evaluation may be helpful to the Consultation and Education Department director’s situation will be explained. “Program evaluation is carefully collecting information about a program or some aspect of a program in order to make necessary decisions about the program. Program evaluation can include any or a variety of at least 35 different types of evaluation, such as for needs assessments, accreditation, cost/benefit analysis, effectiveness, efficiency, formative, summative, goal-based, process, outcomes, etc. The type of evaluation one undertakes to improve ones programs depends on what one wants to learn about the program. (McNamara, n.d.)” For the unique situation faced by the Consultation and Education Department at Greenby Community Mental Health Center, the cost/benefit analysis evaluation measure could be suggested.” A cost benefit analysis finds, quantifies, and adds all the positive factors. These are the benefits. Then it identifies, quantifies, and subtracts all the negatives, the costs. The...

...informed him that they did not take the sadhu all the way down to the village, and are not sure whether he lived or died. Dilemma: Bowen’s decision was based on many factors. Some of these factors were personal, such as his own physical fatigue, his goal to reach the summit, and the fact that this opportunity was “once-in-a-lifetime” (Curtis, 156). Other factors included the fatigue of his fellow climbers, the danger of the pass, the advise of his team and, most importantly, the well being of the sadhu. While reading this article, I found Bowen’s decision to be mostly based on his own personal issues. Although he rationalized his decision later with his fears of the other members of the group’s heath and the fact that the pass may not be passable later, I had the feeling that deep down that’s not why he pushed ahead. I believe that he, somewhat selfishly, was only interested in finishing the climb for his own personal gain and for his ego. Evidence of this lies in his exhilaration of reaching the top, even an hour later when he sees Stephen, his friend, come struggling up the mountain. His rationale of his decision makes it seem like his team’s well being was a major concern, but he did not appear to be as concerned with Stephen’s health as he was with his own accomplishment. Goals: Bowen’s goal, like the goal of many of the members of the team, was to reach the summit, no matter what it took. He and much of the...
