Personal Ethics
Personal ethics reflects the strength of the individual personal character. Personal ethics in today’s society can have a positive or negative effect on family, employers, coworkers, friends, and life. Personal ethics varies for each person; however, people want to be known for their good personal ethics and not the bad because a person does not want to slander his or her character as an individual. Depending on the individual, the person could have positive or negative values of personal ethics when working at a job, working around and with other coworkers, and individuals.
Personal ethics brings out characteristics in individuals. For example, when hired at a job, most of the times the company will give out a code of ethics book with the hiring package. This book is for the employees to take home and read over. The majority of employees do follow each code of ethics in this book, but some do not. However, it depends on the person and what his or her beliefs are.
There are many codes of ethics to follow when working at a company. Not only are responsibilities and principles are some ethics roles but also ethics can mean race, gender, age, religion, and culture just to name a few. According to the Institute of Interdisciplinary Business Research “Ethics are important for the people from many aspects and at different sphere of the society. It may affect not only the personal life of personnel but also his social life. Many of the employees therefore, imbed their behavior in accordance to the organizational demands. Since his career relates to the achievements of his organizations therefore, people tend to behave in a way that is beneficial to his organization and to himself” (Shah, Farooq, Munir, Mahmood, Saeed, 2011, pg.1385).
Unversity of Phoenix students will have to complete an Ethical Lens Inventory in one of their classes when completing the lens a report will generate describing his or her personal lens. When completing the Ethical Lens Inventory, Marshallan had learned that she has a genuine and kind heart, and love to help others. She listens with her heart, thinks smart, and act with confidence. Before taking the Ethical Lens Inventory Report, Marshallan discovered that she has the qualities her report generated. Her preferred ethical lens is neither periscope nor paralysis. She sees each lens with a balance, for she can to adapt to any situation she accouters. She listens to her intuition and treats people with equal fairness. Marshallan strength is no blind spots, yet confusion is her weakness. All four core values are equal Autonomy, Equality, Rationality, and Sensibility. On the other hand, Marshallan uses her personal ethics to determine choices for her and others. When she is out into a situation, she knows how to handle herself in a mature manner and knows the right thing to do.
In conclusion, individuals practice different ethical beliefs. Most employees can adapt to his or her surroundings and treat people equal, but it depends on the individual. In today’s society most people are judge for the wrong reasons, especially when in work environments. Workplace ethics can be both positive and negative, which can affect the workplace. Personal ethics plays a role in individuals and a bigger role in work places today.
