Week 11 Online Learning – Lesson 1 Transcript
Introductory video Hello, for those that do not know me I’m Ian Caddy the unit co-ordinator for Management Dynamics. Welcome to the first of two online lectures in Management Dynamics. Each lecture will be supported by an online tutorial using Pearson Australia’s MyManagementLab. So you will need to register for MyManagementLab using the instructions outlined in the document ‘Accessing Pearson’s MyManagementLab’ which is part of ‘Unit Information’ on the Management Dynamics vUWS site. For those of you that have purchased a textbook then the MyManagementLab access is on the inside front cover of the book. For those of you that have purchased an earlier edition of the textbook or purchased a VitalSource e-Book then you will need to purchase an access code. The structure of the online lecture is that there will be a delivery of some content using a range of different media (PowerPoints with voice over, videos, etc.) followed by some online activities which you should complete. That is, the learning will include both listening, watching and doing. It would probably be a good idea to arrange with your other group members to participate in the online lecture together; that will ensure that there is somebody else that you know completing the online exercises at the same time that you will be. Furthermore, what you will also find is that the lecture does use a lot of what is covered in the textbook; so it may be a good idea to have the textbook open as you go through this online lecture. I hope that you find these online lectures engaging and that there is a positive learning outcome by participating.

Start of Online Lecture on Innovation and Change

. Overview A good starting point for this online lecture should be to understand that we have a fair way to go in terms of really knowing what innovation is and how it provides

Personal Experience

...With the hustle and bustle of everyday life I feel every experience, action or encounter that occurs in our life affects us; in a positive way.  My wife Jane is the most inspiring person in my life and she has affected me in many positive ways throughout our precious time together.  The determination and genuine caring she shows day in and day out is truly remarkable and sets the benchmark for others and myself to emulate. My goal is to inform you how a simple decision turned out to be the best one ever made. As a divorced father of one I had struggled to place myself in the social scene upon moving from the Rhein region in Germany to Central London, I lacked confidence, drive and was still licking my wounds from a divorce and custody battle that had lasted well beyond its expected tenure.  I took a chance after residing in the country for several months and agreed upon the advice of a co-worker to accompany him on a blind date in Piccadilly Circus at the Comedy Store in London.  I was excited, nervous and to be honest had felt butterflies; as I had seen the pictures of this beautiful women I was about to meet. The butterflies were something that had not been in my view for quite some time, in a sense I had given up. We had set off from Epping Station in hope to arrive at Poplar Street Station for a quick meet and greet prior to attending our scheduled venue.  A calming rain, windy and brisk wind filled the young evening; a typical England weather setting.  The...

Personal Experience

...September 19, 2012 People’s experiences and mistakes help shape them for what they will become. In life, as you are now, you have a certain view point of things. How you think they should be and what you want, but most times this is not the case. This realization that everything is not what it seems can make you come crashing down into reality, or your own version of it. The things we experience truly change you as a person. My experiences that I overcame motivate me and inspire me to change and succeed in life. Self-injury can be defined as the attempt to purposely cause harm to one's self and the injury is usually severe enough to cause physical damage. Self-harm can be considered a cry for attention by some people, a plea for anyone around to see that you aren’t alright. For me it was, and yet at the same time it wasn’t. I’ve done these things for my own personal reasons like self-hatred, pressure and the loneliness I felt. The feeling that no one understands you or even cares plays a big factor. Self-harm is a broad title and can be categorized into many different things. Cutting, also known as, self-mutilation was the one I fell into. I sometimes felt victimized. I was born into a society where everything I saw, every influence of culture or fashion, made me want to change myself but not for the right reasons. Cutting was something I had been doing for a while, and the issue of it never really hit me until my sophomore year of high school. That was the moment I went...

...Jake Livingston Mrs. Niel English composition 101 MW 1-12:30 9-10-11 Underneath the Rapids “Jake, come and eat before your brothers eat everything!” It was another gorgeous morning in the West Virginian Mountains. My parents decided that we all needed to bond a little more as a family, so they planned for us all to go on a family vacation. This wasn’t such a terrible idea seeing as how my brothers seemed to hate me, as all older brothers hate their snitch little brothers. They decided that a white water rafting trip seemed like a fun idea for the boys. My sister had to stay home because she was pregnant with her first child. So off we went in the summer of 2005, to good ole’ West Virginia. I was 12 at the time, while my older brothers, Nate and Nick, were 19 and 17. Nate was a two time convicted felon who loved to drink at the time. His life wasn’t exactly going down the right path and my parents wanted to try and connect with him more. Nick on the other hand was a pretty nice kid who was well liked in the community, he had his secrets though. Nick loved to sneak out and go to girl’s houses late at night, I was fortunate enough to share a room with him. Every time he would sneak out when I was still awake, I would tell my parents. I don’t know why I did this to my own older brother; I guess I just liked the attention. He would know it was me and beat me up for betraying him, which would inevitably end up in even more trouble for him. So as you can guess he didn’t like...

...The facility is for seniors to gather around to spend their day. Everyone here have their home attendant but often they are not here with them except picking them up and dropping them off. This facility is located in Chinatown and so basically everyone here is Chinese. It was not very difficult to get into the facility as I thought it would. The facility is small, opens to the public and requires sign in. This facility is also very noisy due to the Chinese culture and the size of it. The patient’s main recreation activity is playing mahjong so that is why it is a noisy place. Some of these patients like to see other people thats why many of them are brought here to spent most of their day. It was very difficult for me to join their activity since mahjong is an activity that requires four people and also I am not very good at it. After I waited for a while I found a spot where I can join and decided to ask for permission to join. The first response is i got is from an old man from the mahjong table and he responded “who is this young lady?” in Chinese and in a not very friendly tone, so I got nervous and scared until the home attendant calm the individual down. I asked the home attendant what is his name and I was told Mr. Lee. So I asked Mr. Lee can I join the group since I wanted to played with you people and learn more about you guys. Luckily Mr. Lee is not bad at all, but I had feeling these seniors are angry at everyone by the way they speak. They either speak very very...

...Embracing Marathon Doing something you have never tried can be a very scary experience; however, with the accompaniment of your best friends, it seems to be accessible. One of the hardest challenges I’ve met was to enter Marathon in 2012. I made a hard decision to take part in this big match. Starr and Kiki, who understood me very well, decided to join me. We were not well-trained runners, with almost no experience of long-distance running. Everything appeared to be a dream; we did not imagine that we could overcome it. All in all, this special experience made me more perseverant. It is true that you have trillions of choice to attend one sport event, and the reason why I choose the Marathon was kind of special. Not only simply because it was challenging but also because it was set in my lovely hometown, Chongqing. Chongqing, which has a meaning of “double celebrations” in Chinese, is in the south of China and has a population of 31 million. I was born there, and I lived in Chongqing for nearly 20 years. For me, Chongqing is like a lovely mother with whom I am emotionally involved. I could not think of anyone more appropriate than her to witness this challenge for me. Like mellow wine, friendship has a magical fragrance that is addicting, and the friendship between Starr, Kiki and me was no exception. They are the best people I’ve ever met. Starr was talkative and she had a good sense of humor. Every time I got in trouble, she talked with me and did whatever she could think...

It was my duty to work closely with the individuals and assist them with learning the necessary skills required for their specific job as well as helping them attain their personal employment goals. As a Job Coach it was my responsibility to act as a liaison with the employing companies and encourage positive, effective and ongoing communication between the individual, employer and my employing agency. For the past two summers I have had the extremely fulfilling opportunity of working for a support agency as a Job Coach for developmentally and physical disabled individuals. This amazing job was viewed not just as a means to make money during the summer, but as a rare opportunity to give back to the community and use the skills that I have acquired throughout University to truly change the lives of these individuals. The summer program that Community Living runs every year is called the “Summer Employment Transitions” program or “SET” for short. Last summer the program was comprised of 25 job coaches responsible for coaching...

Personal Development Experience

...Personal Development Tyler Miller Personal Development Tyler Miller 2016 2016 Background Personal Development For the second personal development exercise I chose 5 people that would be completely honest with their feedback so that I would be able use this feedback. This background section I put in is to describe how I know each person. The first that did this for me was Jaimie Ricker who is my fiancé and has no problem giving me constructive feedback. The second individual that did this was my best of 24 years Nick Linthicum who I grew up with and constantly have stayed in touch with. The third individual I chose was my sister because she has known me the longest besides Nick in my life. My boss of 6 years Kim Koch, completed the next one for me because my entire work experience has been with her. The last person that wrote feedback for me was Amanda Kutcher who has been a supervisor at McDonald’s since my first day there and I have worked with her so much over the past 6 years so she knows very well. For the first 3 assessments I copied and pasted from emails that were sent to me and the last 2 were typed up and given to me. Part 1 Personal Development Exercise This exercise took me a little bit longer than I expected to complete because I don’t take a whole lot time to think about things I do well because I try to focus on things on I do poorly. But I do believe that one my strengths is that I am good with people and getting along with them and making them...

Personal Experience with Language

...Personal Experience with Language Language is a big part of my everyday life. I hear different languages being spoken in many places. I experience a different kind of language the most at the nail salon. Language has a big effect on everyone, in my opinion every time I walk into the nail salon I hear someone talking in a different kind of language. I have no idea what they are saying, but I find it very impressive that most of them can speak English and their language, Vietnamese. As soon as I walk into the nail salon I always hear them talking to one another in their own language. I am sometimes very curious as to what they are saying. For example, they will carry on a conversation with each other and they both look at me and start laughing. It makes me wonder if they were talking about me. Although I cannot understand their language, I usually can tell their emotion by the tone in his or her voice or the look on their face. The body language usually gives it away as well. It is very easy to tell how someone feels by their actions. I love hearing the language they speak because it is very different then the English language. Being around a different language is also very difficult as well. Sometimes I go to someone that does not speak English very well and it is really hard to understand them. Sometimes I have to ask them to repeat their selves more than once, and if I still do not understand I kind of just laugh or just nod my head. It would be neat to learn every language...

...never experience writing to larn, not just to learn about a particular project but to learn about themselves, their values, their experiences, their environment. As teachers of composition, at some point in our careers we have undoubtedly experienced writing apprehension. We can understand why some develop an aversion to writing and would do almost anything to avoid it. WRITING APPREHENSION DEFINED the term as the tendency to experience high degrees of anxiety when asked to write, resulting in an approach-avoidance conflictive state which manifests itself in one’s behaviors, attitudes, and written products. Behaviors 1. They tend to select careers which they perceive to require little or no writing. 2. They tend to avoid courses and majors which require writing on a daily basis. 3. They write very little out of class. 4. They lack role models for writing at home, in school, and in the society at large. 5. They score lower on tests of verbal ability (SAT), reading comprehension, and standardized tests of writing ability used for college placement. 6. They do not necessarily lack motivation. Attitudes 1. Their self-concept is often lower, and they may lack self-confidence. 2. They report low success in prior experiences with school-related writing. 3. Death Scenario

...is the end. In those final agonizing moments knowing that this is the end, how would you handle those final moments and how would you feel about your life up to this point. In reading the scenario the first emotion that hit me was that of anxiety. I was not necessarily feeling anxiety about the fact that I would inevitably die in the situation but anxiety about what my family would feel with my dying. It made me feel sorrowful. I imagine the things that my loved ones would experience after this type of scenario and also the things that I would not be present for in their future lives. I would want my husband to mourn my loss but I would also want him to be able to move on and enjoy the rest of his days and I would want him to be strong and I am hopeful that if this type of scenario, or any other in which I were not to survive for that matter, that he would be strong. I would want him to be strong for himself and for our children, they would need him to show them how to move past this type of experience and enjoy their lives to the fullest. In the final moments...

Why We Travel

...his past experiences and his feelings based on his travelling days. Based on this article, we conclude that travelling is not only moving elsewhere other than our homes and coming back the same person. It changes a person’s perception of life in either positive or negative ways. Through his personal travels, he has highlighted travelling makes him sees in a different point of view in most of the countries like in Paris, Mickey Rourke was still known as the greatest actor since Jerry Lewis. I’m in a full agreement in his statement of his definition of the joy travelling as people have to be open minded to enjoy ourselves. An example which would be meeting and understanding the local trends like I did when I was in Japan. Their trending faster than Malaysia when I was there. Besides that, he brought up that travelling is a way to reverse time to a small extent, and make a day last a year. I also strongly support this as families tend to cram a bunch of activities all in a day because no one in this world wants to “waste time” but wanting to make use of the little time they have away from home. I have also experienced travelling and wanting to accomplish all the plans in a day as I was in Italy for 2 months of vacation but unfortunately did not manage to visit all the places that were planned. Therefore, travelling definitely limits our day and allows us to appreciate time and use it to its full potential. Besides his personal travel experiences...
