I am a ACL victim. I’ve been associated with, and playing football since a little kid. All the way through little league and middle school I’ve had a couple of broken bones and bumps. But, never had I ever thought I’d be one of the 100,000-200,000 people per year to tear a ligament in my knee. However, by Thursday my coach was worried that I was still injured and sent me to the team doctor. After the MRI on Friday, I went on about my usual pre-game routine, from wearing the same Superman underwear turned inside out to stretching. I received the fateful phone call with the MRI results a few hours before game time. My ACL, the ligament that connects the femur to the shin bone, was torn clean in two. I needed surgery. I would be out of sports for 6 months. I would never again step foot on a high school football field. Stunned, I walked behind the locker room, sat down, and for the first time in along time, cried my eyes out. Football was my passion since the sixth grade. My friends and I were always talking about it, watching it, or playing it (whether in real life or on
