Setbacks appeared frequently throughout my life in high school. Very few of those memories, however, have been retained in my mind. They were all small, yet fixable, complications that took little effort to overcome. I would always have time to do whatever I pleased, as homework was either completed at school or finished briefly at home. Never had I experienced a mental breakdown that was induced by intense stress or a low class grade. During the previous school year, AP Chemistry showed me a completely different perspective on the definitions of failure and setback. I surprisingly underwent what the brink of insanity was almost truly like. Though I was mentally prepared for the great amount of school work that would be thrown in my direction, I never once thought of the emotional stress I would undergo. For the first time in my swiftly passing life, I witnessed what it was like to see a constant C in the grade book that could possibly determine my future. Every day dragged on slowly with each seemingly complex quiz that I dreaded to finish. Depending on the textbook was one of the last things I ever wanted to do, as I always dwelled on the idea that I would be deemed as “inadequately capable” of understanding the lecture. …show more content…
My confidence in my vast knowledge of mathematics had been easily swept away with the tears I wept that week. Consequently, my grades had slipped past an ugly B-, and I gave up hope in even putting forth any effort. Later on during school, I had realized that I needed to gradually let go of my stubbornness. Instead of recklessly rushing in all at once, I had to understand that prioritizing was the only option. Keeping my mind set on a subject that I lacked skills in would prohibit any strong effort I could put forth in the class I could easily excel
