Personal Narrative: Audrey Hepburn

Everyone will eventually be forgotten. No one lasts eternally in a mortal body. When I realized this, one of my greatest fears turned into a cruel fact. Throughout my entire youth, I wanted to be remembered, but memory only endures for as long as one’s story is worth telling. Even if I became the next Shakespeare or Mozart, I would one day be forgotten. Even the great have a limited place in the memory of society. Less than thirty years ago, Audrey Hepburn still acted, but some children today may ask, “Who is Audrey?” If memories are fleeting, one’s purpose in life must belong elsewhere. The future will forget you, but the present will love you because the two of you were made for each other. All we human beings have is now. To some, now …show more content…
One day, I worked during an extremely busy time. During a thirty second lull, I suddenly realized how insignificant humans are, and I smiled. Years from that moment, I may still be able to recall a few of the rude and weird customers I had to deal with on that day, but overall, I probably will not even be able to picture the faces of most of them. I took comfort in this revelation because I discovered that no one’s disgusting or inexcusable behavior is eternal. That also means that no one’s benevolent and kind behavior is immortal.
So, everything is meaningless? If we are going to be forgotten, how should one live life? Should people live as if nothing matters? No, the temporary state of our actions increase the meaning of what we as humans do. Every action matters because they each have a nearly instant effect on the world and other …show more content…
That is what we must live for. If we can make just one person’s life a little better, slightly happier, and more bearable, then our lives on Earth will be well spent.
All of us will one day become a figment of a memory, and one day, that figment will fall into an abyss of nothingness. We will all be forgotten, but we should not weep over that fact. We should live every day as if all we have is now because it is true; now is all we have, all we will ever know, and all we can ever hope to experience.
Let us create a world that is focused on what is rather than what the future may bring. We can plan out an organized and detailed map of the next ten years of our lives, but in an instant, that plan can change. The now is the only reliable thing we have because it never lies or places false hope on our fragile souls. The now tells the truth, brutally. The now is all we have, and we should embrace it with opened arms. Instead of chasing dreams, chase the now because the now is the only way one’s dreams can become a

...Fashioning an identity ‘In a lot of ways, branding is simply telling a story.’ Exploring the fashion world occasionally feels like gate-crashing an exclusive club. At least, that’s the sensation I experience as I climb a spiral staircase in a building near Place Vendôme – the grand Parisian square that is home to the Ritz. César Ritz opened his celebrated hotel on 1 June 1898, and its rich patrons attracted the attentions of Cartier, Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels, and the other jewellery and luxury goods boutiques that crowd the square. This particular building is the headquarters of a publishing firm, but its location is entirely appropriate. Over the past ten years, Assouline has published a series of glossy books, each minutely dissecting the history of a legendary designer label. With offices in Paris, London and New York, it has become a luxury brand in its own right. I reckon that here, at least, I should get my first insight into what makes a fashion icon. As so often on these occasions, the claustrophobic staircase and labyrinthine corridors of the old building lead to a large office, with a bright picture window overlooking the potted trees and shrubs in the courtyard. Martine Assouline, an elegant French woman, sits me down at a glossy slab-like table and considers her response to my question. ‘At the moment we are in a period where the brand has an exaggerated importance,’ she tells me. ‘Designers like Tom Ford, John Galliano and Marc Jacobs injected new...

Consumer Behaviour

...The role of self concept in understanding brand experience, brand attachment and brand loyalty in the consumption of premium clothing brands Londiwe Mkhize Student Number: 28531907 A research project submitted to the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Business Administration. 10 November 2010 © University of Pretoria ABSTRACT The foremost argument of this research is that self concept is of fundamental influence in the choices consumers make when purchasing luxury clothing brands. The objective of this research was to determine the relationships between self concept and the experience, attachment and loyalty that consumers have towards brands. The research further sought to confirm the role that identity theory plays in brand consumption. Sixty-nine respondents were surveyed via an electronic tool to understand how they view the role that self concept plays in the experiences they encounter with clothing brands. Experts were also interviewed to gain deeper insights into brands and the importance that communication and branding strategies play in developing brands for consumption. Ttests and bivariate regression was performed in order to determine relationships amongst the constructs. The findings show that consumers place a relatively high importance on the brand experience and self concept constructs. Marketing and advertising companies have an enormous responsibility...
