Growing up with two older sisters, we didn’t get along very much, but we could always agree that baking at our grandma’s for Chanukah is the best part of the holidays. Whether it was a snowstorm or below zero weather, we would always make an effort to go to our grandma’s. Each Chanukah my family and I would make our way over to my grandparent’s apartment decked out in warm sweaters and knit gloves and hats. When I walked into my grandparent’s apartment, sparkly ornaments filled the room and the laughter from my cousins would have been heard a mile away. I could smell my grandma’s sweet and sour meatballs cooking in the oven, and looked over to see warm, crispy potato latkes sitting in a pan ready to be devoured. I focused my attention back to the brownies and began to help my sisters. My job was to mix together the melted butter and chocolate chips with the sugar, eggs, and vanilla. To me, the flour was always so tricky to keep in the bowl and would always sprinkle everywhere creating an image of snow around the kitchen. My grandma and sisters laughed at me as I was covered in flour and a sticky mess! Once I got cleaned up, the brownie batter was ready to go into the oven. My sister’s and I would always watch the batter begin to rise as if it was the most interesting thing we’ve ever seen. The aroma of sweet chocolate and moist cake filled the air of my grandparent’s apartment. Finally the brownies were ready, and I was astonished at how they turned into perfectly brown, gooey brownies from such a mess I had created. My grandma helped me carry the pan of brownies to the table, which was decorated so beautifully with gold plates, glass cups, and flowers. Everyone gathered at the table and began to eat, laugh, and share
