The afternoon sun shone with intensity on our bare backs making them warm. The warm, dry, gritty sand of Coney Island felt soft under by bare feet. People were scattered everywhere near the beach shore with colorful umbrellas. Even at this distance, we could hear indistinct chattering between people. Every one of us except the parents rushed to the ocean where the coldness of the water left me shivering. The foamy water that were the remnants of the crashing waves came up at regular intervals. The others continued to play in the icy ocean while I looked for the bucket that we brought with us to build a sand castle. We also swam around in the water and splashed water at each other. Once, the water entered my mouth and I tasted the salt. The water felt cool and not as cold now that we were used to the cold and once, we spotted a really big wave coming and I stood up with my should against the wave. The next moment, the wave slammed painfully onto my shoulder. I was surprised by how much water could hurt. After a few more blissful moments, we were called back to the shore. I dried myself with a tower and I could feel the feeling on your skin when you stayed under the sun without sunscreen or protection against the sunlight for a long time. We made our slowly way back across the vast plain of dry sand that stuck to my wet feet. I looked back one more time at the ocean, deep blue and cool before I ran ahead. We showered at one of the public shower places and we went to the bathroom to change. When we came out, the bottom of our feet were full of sand and we had washed our feet for nothing.
