I am a musician. The instrument I play isn’t the violin, cello, or piano. What I play is called “dontree”. Dontree isn’t an ordinary American musical orchestra. Dontree means music in the Thai language. Dontree has changed me. I learned new things, gained new outlooks, and learned greatly about music . Dontree is Thai classical orchestra. I am a Thai classical musician. Dontree was first introduced to me when I attended a weekend language class at a nearby temple. My parents wanted me to enrich my cultural knowledge. I went along and participated in the music program offered there. It wasn’t any ordinary music program. I was introduced to instruments from Thailand. It was quite a startling experience to be taught how to play these foreign instruments. As I was learning, I could play most of the instruments there. I found out I had quite a musical talent and continued to pursue this talent. Eventually I grew a passion for it. Every weekend I would attend this temple excited to learn more about Thai classical music. The history and the art of it which dates many years ago was so fascinating to me.
