When I began volunteering as a teen at Houston Medical Center in the maternity ward, admissions, ER and the ICU, my duties included assisting patients with admissions and discharge, stocking supplies, comforting patients during delivery, and moving patients to various parts of the hospital. When I was not directly assisting the staff, I served as a liaison between the busy staff and visitors. This volunteering experience taught me that compassion, positive attitude, teamwork, and, most importantly, the willingness to help others are key aspects involved in providing an effective medical care.
