Question the functioning of things. The simple question "why" is not sufficiently asked and the answer "because it is like that" is too often brought.
Questioning is open to other people, giving meaning to what you learn, and storing a piece of general knowledge. The common point of all intelligent people is curiosity. I was talking about it some time ago.
