It had been three weeks since I completed my first run for Jimmy Meatball and since then; I had completed three more. At a run per week, I could see that Jimmy was moving an awful lot of flesh. The underground value of what I was picking up, I would say would have to be in the area of 200K per week. He didn’t have the same supplier all the time, either. I had made runs into Minnesota, Wisconsin, and even Illinois as I picked up the product for him and it was a funeral home I visited each time. It consisted mostly of projects. Lots of people living in poverty who had their own underground drug trade that moved the local economy. I knew why I was here instantly. It was the type of environment where people died by the gun every day. Where someone could go missing and the locals would be too afraid to speak up about it. I had been approached as I slowed to a rolling stop at a random corner. The kid coming my way was in his teens and probably figured I was some yuppie from the suburbs looking to score dope. The aroma was powerful, like a high-quality steak mixed in with the irony smell of liver. I knew it was wrong, but it made me salivate all the same. I wanted to try it, but I had to stay focused. It was now apparent why Jimmy had his boys wearing the Racal suits. Even a tiny taste of this meat would lead to biting off a chunk of it, which would surely be followed by devouring it. Then, before I would know it, I would be just like Elliot, Jeff, and Calvin, a mindless monster forever on the prowl for its next meal. The final cooler I wasn’t even going to open. It would only be filled with just more of the same, but since I had gone this far in my investigation, I figured I might as well see it through. I was disquieted by what I found in it, though.
