It was now time for the X-rays. (2 sentences, 38 words) The days after were long, full of waiting anxiously to find out the results of the two tests that could either fill me with joy or leave me devastated. ...The first five years of my life after high school were thrown away. Sad to say, I allowed my peers to decide what type of person I was going to be. We didn’t take life seriously, and that was the biggest problem. It was my twelfth grade in high school, and due to my background with getting into various altercations during or after school, I was told by the principal, “You don’t have to come back to school until final exams and graduation.” Yes! I thought, I’m only going to school for one class anyway. My mentality and structure were fixed on getting a job. Even though my dad didn’t spend enough time with helping me to plan my future out, I was a follower of what I saw being done, and that was working hard to make a living. Now I was seventeen...

We’re car pool buddies now and this is positive for me too. I will not be calling in as often now,’ Robert remarked with a guilty look before snickering a little. "I was running out of excuses anyway.” With a smile inching its way across her face, Melanie realized that Rob might have been ditching school and work. It made her self esteem soar for the first time knowing that she would be...

...For me the past is cold and dark, I can't say I like to reminisce about it. Mom, and I would move around from one city to the next. I always adjusted to new learning situations following the changes. The new school I went to was a year behind so I would get A's without even trying because I have already done every assignment the year before. Then when we would move back, my grades would deteriorate because I was now two years behind the rest of the class. After a few years of this, it was now time for high school and we just relocated again. The journey to and from school every day for a year I passed through what we called the hood (ghetto). There are several reasons why I assume my time during high school was not very productive....

...On March 19, 2001, Rita and Jose Franco arrived at San Bernardino, CA hospital to give birth to their two beautiful little twins girls named Clarissa and Isabella, but things took a turn for the worst after we were born Clarissa did not make it due to the fact that both of her lungs did not retain a lot of the fluids and I wasn't that far from being behind her but I'm here. ...” “Uh, I don’t know about today, technically, we’re not supposed to be giving tours right now because the CEO is here,” he started. “Oh, C’mon, I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s the least that you could do for an old friend, right?” Ayesha began to pout playfully. The tour was short and without conflict, he showed her everything that he thought that she needed to see. He even killed time, showing her parts of the building that she didn’t need to see, in order to spend more time flirting with her. Everything was going smoothly and he began to feel like today was his lucky day. He was imaginig how he would ask her for dinner, by this nice restaurant located right by the Brooklyn Bridge, he imagined how they would walk and talk along the water after eating steak and drinking wine, right during the middle of his imaginations things began to go...

...If you give yourself a chance, you just might surprise yourself. I did just that and found a talent I never knew I had. I reluctantly accepted the constant pleads from my friends to audition for the school musical The Pajama Game. They had been in the plays before and always reminisced on the unforgettable moments the crew had together. They egged me on saying, “You’ll love it,” and, “It will be so fun if we all are in it together.” I tried everything in my power to decline the invitation with explanations of my glossophobia (fear of public speaking) and severe allergic reaction when I stand on a stage, but no one would buy it. And there I was, Michelle the student athlete without any drama experience, about to try out for the school musical....

Early on in life I was rowdy and would often get in trouble or confrontations. I was one of those children who always had a hard time staying still. The extra energy that I exhibited was another reason why my family got me into sports. High-school During high-school I matured to a certain degree and grew out of being such a “spaz”. This could have been because I learned that people...

...2018 walked across the football field signifying their entry into adulthood. Many of them will pursue higher education, some of them will join the armed forces, and all of them have hopes for a bright future. “Real life” or life beyond their parents' homes is just beginning. The past 17 to 18 years have passed quickly; time always does. As a parent, I am amazed at how much my own children have grown and changed in the past three and a half years. Their lives are just beginning, too, in a different sense. Their personalities are still forming, their understanding of the world is vastly and rapidly expanding with each day, and they are literally taking first steps and experiencing milestones at every turn. Seven months ago, Jordan decided to make his presence known. Reflecting with several of my students who were in the senior speech class that sent me off to the hospital, we were all in such disbelief over how fast those months passed and how quickly the school calendar disappeared. As a seasoned teacher, I can...

...began at a private school. Because of this education, I learned discipline, respect, and how to love others at an early age. Throughout my middle school and early high school career, I put maximum effort into my grades and extracurricular activities. I was fully involved in church activities, academic clubs and sports. I excelled in these areas and was rewarded by participating in the honors program, becoming the captain of the first track team at our school, and seeing my relationships and community positively affected by my involvement. When these areas of my life flourished, I became aware that all these experiences were helping me to prepare for my later responsibilities and adult life ahead of me. Realizing that that adult...

...After graduating high school, I was always told to go to college. But no one really gets into the details of all the paperwork before college, the reality check of cost of tuition, books, fees, the competition for programs, hours spent during homework, etc. All I knew was that college cost money, that I didn’t have, so I figure getting a job, working, and save up some money. As a young adult with no real responsibility, no car bills, cheap rent, no credit card or loan debt, a decent day to day job would seem like some real money for a just graduated, first job young adult. Well that’s what I thought at least. Sounds simple enough but now I know that without the right support and guidance, my life would’ve remained the same. Day to day job, just barely getting by. That’s what turned into “my after high school plans.” Work and save a little money here and there for college. That work turned into waiting tables at restaurants. At any new place it can be intimidating, being the new person. But as everyone gets to know each other, you connect with people you share common interest with. The wife's talk about their kids or their husbands. The party goers plan the next...

...PERSONAL NARRATIVE 1 When taking a look at how my life has changed over the past five years I can truly and honestly say that I would never have expected the things that have happened. Back in June 2007 I was separated from my husband and moved into my own apartment. I was in the United States Navy for six and a half years at that time. My divorce was finalized in January 2008 and I deployed to Afghanistan in March 2008, for eight months. After coming home from a long deployment, I had orders to move to Lemoore, California. This area is nothing but farm lands and I did not like that at all. I was born and raised in Southern California and enjoyed the fast-paced life that I was living. It is amazing how things have changed. In July 2011 I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and I moved back in with my mother and two younger sister. Growing up we lived in a condo in Diamond Bar, California, but that all changed over time. The same time that I got out of the military, myself, my sisters and my mother had to move out of our condo and into a two bedroom apartment. Talk about a huge change in life. This move has not been easy for any of us. There is no privacy and we all have to share the living space. I share a bed with my middle sister and my mother shares a bed with my youngest sister. I never thought that I would be unemployed for this long, but it has been over a year since I got discharged. It seems like nobody is hiring right now...

...STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK Mike Hayler University of Brighton, UK Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education examines the professional life and work of teacher educators. In adopting an autoethnographic and life-history approach, Mike Hayler develops a theoretically informed discussion of how the professional identity of teacher educators is both formed and represented by narratives of experience. The book draws upon analytic autoethnography and life-history methods to explore the ways in which teacher educators construct and develop their conceptions and practice by engaging with memory through narrative, in order to negotiate some of the ambivalences and uncertainties of their work. The author’s own story of learning, embedded within the text, was shared with other teacher-educators, who following interviews wrote self-narratives around themes which emerged from discussion. The focus for analysis develops from how professional identity and pedagogy are influenced by changing perceptions and self-narratives of life and work experiences, and how this may influence professional culture, content and practice in this area. Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK The book includes an evaluation of how using this approach has allowed the author to investigate both the subject and method of the research with implications for ...
