These are just some of the few men considered to be the greatest man that’s ever lived. When I think of the greatest man that ever lived I don’t think of those names. I think about my grandfather, Roberto Littaua, but I called him Lolo Bob. He died ten years ago, January 29, 2005, from a brain tumor in the Philippines. That was a tragedy for my family and I, especially for me because I was still young, and I could have done so much more with him. A memory I remember was how he would smile whenever he saw me at my happiest times like one Christmas day when I was playing with a new toy I got, as he sat in his rocking chair, and just smiled. If I recall clearly, the toy I was playing with was a Redbox Semi-Truck Goodyear toy that would carry 40 cars, with 20 cars on each side of the truck. I would drag the truck around, and even grab the cars off the truck. Lolo Bob didn’t really say much because he was not much of a talker, but I remember clearly how he looked like. He was dark skinned, bald headed, but often had a wig on, and roughly 5’10”. That was a good time to live through. So what is the other memory I remember? Well that’s simple. However, there are multiple different kinds of people to encounter at a travel center. A truck stop is kind of like an airport; there is so much diversity in the people everywhere you turn. There’s this girl Alexis who has been working at Pilot Travel Center for about two and half years. When she first started, she too thought the same – all truckers are fat and nasty. To her surprise, there are so many different kinds of personalities that walk in the door; you’ll be astonished that they are in the truck driving industry. After quick examination Alexis was able to narrow “these people” down to four specific categories; the creepy flirts, the professional clean cuts, the grumpy jerks, and of course, the stinky fats-o’s. ...Memoir My first memory of kindergarten was this: dozens of tiny, petrified 5-year-olds being dropped off at their first day of school, and dozens of exhausted, overworked mothers consoling their weeping sons and daughters. I remember it vividly because, despite the terror and chaos, a single thought pervaded my mind, the thought that “these moms are not as pretty as my mom.” I wasn’t entirely biased, either. By North American standards of beauty, I was correct. Here was my mother, a rail-thin, blonde-haired, blue-eyed statuesque stunner, among a sea of frumpy women with visible wrinkles and tangles of black hair. And here I was, the daughter of this perfect specimen, the proud owner of a mother who was more “feminine”, more “womanly”, and therefore, I naively deduced, “a better mother”. In fact, although my vocabulary was fairly limited at the time, I believed her to be the epitome of all mothers. She looked, I told her that morning, “like a mom was supposed to look.” In interviewing my mother, she said that this was my “first brush with what it meant to be a girl.” Throughout kindergarten, I was labeled “weird”. Like any art form, however, films are also meant to be felt and understood, to appeal to our emotions and minds. One of the best ways to determine whether a film has succeeded in any or all of these goals is to analyze the elements that make up the whole work. To write an analysis of a film, you must study the film carefully. Your critical analysis should be derived from your personal encounter with the film, not from published criticism. Access to a videocassette recorder or DVD player is essential if you are going to perform a critical analysis of any depth. It is not enough to like or dislike the movie; you must determine why it succeeds or fails in reaching out and encompassing the viewer. The first step is to view the film in its entirety. From this viewing you can get an initial reaction to the many parts of the film that you will have to explore in more depth. When you first view the film, it is best not to try to take notes or separate the parts of the film; you should be familiar with the textbook in order to know what to look for. After you have formulated a thesis and have begun the process of supporting that thesis, you should view the film at least once more in its entirety and two or three times in segments in order to review scenes of major importance.
