...There are many events in my personal developmental history that are significant. One in particular from the past that comes to mind is when I started my sophomore year of high school. Many things in this year shaped who I am today. I became more independent and met a couple people that changed my life. As a sophomore in high school I grew up a lot. For one I began to drive. This makes young people independent and it definitely did for me too. I began hanging out with my friends a lot more simply because it was easy and my parents didn’t have to take me everywhere. When my parents stopped driving me around I was able to make choices of where I went, good or bad. I made decisions and I learned a lot about consequences this year. The next things...

...My Sophomore year of high school my stepdad was arrested. It was the most I’ve ever felt confused, angry, and sad. Junior year he passed away, and even though these events that took place in my life are anything but good, I am happy to say that even with all of the bad that was in my life, I am able to walk away from these experiences a better, more knowledgeable person. My stepdad was more of a father to me than a stepdad. He was my coach, my teacher, my friend, and my dad. Even though he is gone he is still all of these things, and I know that he is still watching over me because no matter where I am and no matter what I am doing I can still sense his warm, happy presents helping me through every day of my life. When he was arrested, it seemed as though the world had stopped moving and everything around me just stopped as well. When my mom called me to tell me that he was arrested my whole being shut down. I wanted to cry but couldn’t. I wanted to scream but didn’t. Instead I stood still, not saying anything on the phone. I was speechless, I was breathless, I was gone. I was somewhere else floating away from everything that I knew....

...Sophomore year was my favorite year of high school. It started out slow but ended with a rush. It seem like it flew past me. I would redo sophomore year all over again just for the fun of it. Being a 10th grader is often looked at as the beginning of our teenage independence. It’s not like that for everyone. At the time I was going through some family issues that held me back from experiencing my own independence. I had just started living with my aunt, my dad’s sister, at the end of 9th grade year. I started 10th grade at John Adams High School. Even though I ended 9th grade year there, I told myself that I wasn’t going to try to make any friends there at the time because I’d probably be at another school next year, but I wasn’t. Going there was a bit awkward; I had told some students that I wouldn’t be attending the school 10th grade year but there I was....

...In the summer before ninth grade, I was given an educational opportunity that impacted my life. One day, I got called up to a room full of people with three advisors that were sitting at a corner table. There was a big group of people who were signing up for the program called, “Trio.” At first, I did not know what this program was. However, as I listened to them speak, I learned what the program Trio was. The trio is a program that assists students with their academic classes and helps prepare them for college. Their assistance provides students with various academic options that can help them become successful. After I attended my first year of high school, advisors from the Trio program were pulling me out of class almost every week to discuss...

...During my junior year of high school, I broke my leg playing soccer. This injury caused a variety of health issues, consisting of nerve damage, torn muscles, and mobility problems. With the intention of playing soccer my senior year, I worked assiduously to regain my strength and flexibility. Despite my efforts to achieve full flexibility, the ability to point my toe persisted as a challenge to overcome. My physical therapists recommended a stretching technique requiring me to kneel on the floor and push my heel to the ground. This did not work because of the severity of my tightened tendon. Pondering a solution to my problem, I designed a brace for my leg using drafting techniques I acquired from engineering classes I took during my junior...

...Given that I am a 9th grader, this will be my first year of high school and consequently, I have set some goals for myself through these next few years. These are both goals looking more at my future, but also goals I have set after reflecting on my middle school education. In my last two years of middle school, I took two Spanish classes to gain one high school credit. This was the first step in my goal to become fluent and understand a second language along with attaining knowledge and understanding of the Spanish culture. I hope to continue with this goal by taking and doing well in my future and current Spanish courses. One of my biggest goals it to become a more effective and efficient writer. Looking at my writing in the past, it is...

...My Freshman year and Sophomore year in high school were not the worst but also not the best either. I was still adjusting from grade school getting Cs’ thinking they were acceptable. The main thing I struggled with the most and I still usually do today is math. I feel like people either usually love math and are complete whiz kids with it, or they are like how I am and cannot figure it out for the life of them sometimes. Junior year and senior year I have really turned around with my grades though. My junior year I worked hard as was able to make the gold honor roll with As’ and Bs’. School just didn’t seem as hard if I truly tried my hardest. Senior year is also going well grade wise. My favorite class or subject would have to be History...

...In my four years of high school sports were a major part of my education. Sports not only helped me physically but mentally they pushed me to keep my grades up so I could continue to keep playing. I would say football was a big impact on me, football let me get all my anger out and really learn how to play the game. My biggest role in football was a lineman, even though lineman wasn’t the best spot it is one of the most important job to do. In the role of a lineman, you have to be a big role model to not only the underclassmen but to the rest of your team. After I got to know the game of football more I thought to help others that didn’t know how to play. Throughout the four years of my high school I tried recruiting new members to every sport...

...I summarize my first two years of high-school as simply neglecting to do any sort of work in my classes and complete lack of effort on my own part. I'd be constantly getting A - B's on my tests but my class grades would never reflect that. I'm extremely thankful for my parents for always supporting me and being the very backbone of my life. Once they began to question where I'd have to go to college, and how I'd be able to get any sort of stable job, I came to a harsh realization that my grades were sub-par. I want to go to college, and I want to get a job. But my life had consisted of slacking and being a lazy bum. I made the choice of selecting as many difficult Honors classes as I could and tried my hardest to get the grades I wanted. I...

...into the person I am today, started my freshmen year of public high school. Before high school I had been homeschooled since second grade. The first day I walked through the doors I had no friends and, while I had an idea of what to expect, I was not prepared with what was reality. What I expected was what I had seen from TV and read in books; a popular clique, lockers lining the hallways, and athletes who always wore their varsity jackets. At my school there was none of that. I was slightly disappointed that my school had no lockers and no sports. As I walked the halls of the small school, my first day I saw everyone had a friend to talk to and eat lunch with, while I had nobody. That day, after school, I went home and told my mother how public school wasn’t the cliché I thought it would be and I would like to return to being homeschooled....

...“High school, the best four years of your life.” The way I feel it's going to be the more stressful four years of my life. Going to night school is nerve racking and quite frankly terrifying. I'm going to go from being the oldest grade in the middle school to the youngest in high school. I am excited, however for some things. I'm most nervous for the upperclassmen and assignments and I'm most excited for the freedom. Ninth grade, freshman year, fresh meat, no matter what you call it freshmen are the youngest. Upperclassman make me feel uneasy since, we have classes with them now. In the middle school you saw another grade one or two times a day. I am nervous I will look stupid in front of the upperclassmen. I might have a mental breakdown if I feel in front of them; especially if it was during the beginning of the school year. I am friends with some upperclassmen, but it is still scary to me. I am not looking forward to having classes with any of the older grades. I scheduled to take higher classes during freshman year. As I do believe I am very capable of learning the information, I am nervous I will get a lot of projects or assignments I won't be able to complete. I get overwhelmed quite often and it worries me that I will be overwhelmed twice as bad. Homework, projects, and essays all add up very quickly in my mind so, having of...

...STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK Mike Hayler University of Brighton, UK Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education examines the professional life and work of teacher educators. In adopting an autoethnographic and life-history approach, Mike Hayler develops a theoretically informed discussion of how the professional identity of teacher educators is both formed and represented by narratives of experience. The book draws upon analytic autoethnography and life-history methods to explore the ways in which teacher educators construct and develop their conceptions and practice by engaging with memory through narrative, in order to negotiate some of the ambivalences and uncertainties of their work. The author’s own story of learning, embedded within the text, was shared with other teacher-educators, who following interviews wrote self-narratives around themes which emerged from discussion. The focus for analysis develops from how professional identity and pedagogy are influenced by changing perceptions and self-narratives of life and work experiences, and how this may influence professional culture, content and practice in this area. Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK The book includes an evaluation of how using this approach has allowed the author to investigate both the subject and method of the research with implications for ...

...PERSONAL NARRATIVE 1 When taking a look at how my life has changed over the past five years I can truly and honestly say that I would never have expected the things that have happened. Back in June 2007 I was separated from my husband and moved into my own apartment. I was in the United States Navy for six and a half years at that time. My divorce was finalized in January 2008 and I deployed to Afghanistan in March 2008, for eight months. After coming home from a long deployment, I had orders to move to Lemoore, California. This area is nothing but farm lands and I did not like that at all. I was born and raised in Southern California and enjoyed the fast-paced life that I was living. It is amazing how things have changed. In July 2011 I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and I moved back in with my mother and two younger sister. Growing up we lived in a condo in Diamond Bar, California, but that all changed over time. The same time that I got out of the military, myself, my sisters and my mother had to move out of our condo and into a two bedroom apartment. Talk about a huge change in life. This move has not been easy for any of us. There is no privacy and we all have to share the living space. I share a bed with my middle sister and my mother shares a bed with my youngest sister. I never thought that I would be unemployed for this long, but it has been over a year since I got discharged. It seems like nobody is hiring right now...

...Second Semester Final Exam: Portfolio A: Narrative/Descriptive Writing Parasailing (Vignette) Narrative and descriptive writing is the writing style I enjoy the most. The vignette I wrote about is a story that happened to me when I was younger and this kind of writing allows me to relive this memory on paper. I find this kind of writing easier to write and easy to relate to because it’s all about me. It is harder for me to write and relate to a book that we read in class since it isn’t about my personal life. This kind of writing style helps me reflect on the something I learned because I have seen how much I have grown this school year based off of what I wrote about and my writing style. This kind of writing style allows me to describe...

...personal narrative You act white tell a personal narrative of multi-racial girl. The girl has more problems with her skin color because she is too shy to make friends. Three black girls deride her and cause some problems. She is only 8th grade's student and a small kid. These three girls give pressure that a kid can not easy to withstand. Their threaten and actions to her makes her so upset. What those girls has done to her makes her suffering a lot. When I read this article, my childhood also has some dark memories that I did not want it happened to me again. When I was 12 years old, this was the time to go to junior school in China. The Chinese education system force students to very hard and compete with each other. Students needs to study sine 6am till 10pm everyday to study all kinds of subjects. And most of parents want their children to go to top schooling their city in order to have a promising future. With a huge amount of students but limited best schools, not all the students can make their "best school" dreams come true. So the entrance exam is the only way to pick students who want to go to the best school. Fortunately, I was 1000 of 10000 students who passed the exam. However if i had a chance to chose again, i would rather not pass that exam. What I had experienced made me feel so upset and lonely. The Foreign Languages School, one of the best schools in my hometown, was a boarding school. Students only had 4 days off to home per month. I lived with my grandparents...
