I was always jubilant: dancing--even though I had two left feet--singing--even though I was tone deaf--and painting--even though my art looked like globs. This all changed when I began high school. I was exhausted. Exhausted from neatly scribbling useless notes in my notebook. Drained from repeating our traditional tedious two-minute backhand and forehand drills for tennis. Jaded from being stranded in a small, sullen grey building with few to no windows to let in the sunshine. I needed some change, some glimmer of hope, something to revitalize me from this dying state of monotony. It felt like acupuncture; it relieved all the stress and tension in my body by opening up myself to new opportunities. I began learning about many mind-boggling and mesmerizing things about medicine: how the simulation machine worked on people like jubilant Julie with sciatica, and how Tom required the four steps of rehab to regain control of his rotator cuff. I could not have learned this information with the same passion and enthusiasm in a classroom. This experience solidified my desire to study medicine. This experience released me from the routine of mimicking a mindless machine. This experience inspired me to continue my path in the medical field because I finally found something that I loved: exploring the exquisitely enchanting world of medicine. With a major in biology, I plan to continue striving to become a pediatrician or physical therapist so I can nurture those struggling patients back to life like the field did to
