As a child my mother would always play 90’s R&B or rap in the house all hours of the day. Most would say you enjoy it because you grew up on it. That’s not the case I ventured out into other types of music and always came back. My querencia would have to be music. The genre that I enjoy the most and I have never lost interest in is Rap/Hip-Hop. I mostly listen to underground Rap/Hip-Hop. Most people immediately ask if I listen to the stuff rap that is played on the radio. I always have to explain to them that they are not the same at all. Most underground or independent Rap/Hip-Hop artists have 100% control over their lyrics and what type of beats are produced. In my opinion most underground rappers could sell out and become a well-known radio …show more content…
My mind becomes consumed by the lyrics of the music. I can feel the weight of stress lifting off my shoulders. It has the power to bring mass amount together to express themselves or even share ideas. Some of my favorite songs have stories that are so profound with detail that it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to them. I have made friends based on the No matter what is going on in your life and how much you feel like the world is crumbling below your feet; music makes me feel like everything is going to be ok. It can show a perspective to life that you have never experienced or known of. You can be taught life lessons through the stories of the musicians who make these fine works of art. There are a handful of songs that come to mind that are as vivid as the dream you had last night. I have never written lyrics because the music I listen to is so intimidating that I know I could never compare to that level of creativity. Music is a powerful tool because it can reach all four corners of the earth by people who choose to seek it. It will forever be timeless and it will never lose its meaning. To this day there has not been one known society that has not had some kind of culturally categorized music source. Music is being studied by scientists as a biological function.
The only place that I can’t be in my querencia is at school while I am in class. I am fortunate enough to have …show more content…
For example: I love driving around the city in my car even if I do not have anything productive to do. On a few occasions I have driven with absolutely no music on and it seemed like the longest road trip of my life when in reality it was a drive down the street to the grocery store. Another example is attempting to going to the gym without music. That is by far one of the most boring things to do by yourself. The workout seems to last a lot longer than normal. Music tends to be very motivational for me and it tends to be so mentally stimulating that I feel like I get an efficient workout. I do not think I would be as driven as I am in life without the aid of music and some life lessons I have learned through the stories of the artist

Asl Deaf Event

...ASL Deaf Event: Signmark Concert This past Thursday, I attended the Signmark concert hosted by Penn In-Hand. Signmark is a deaf Finnish rap artist that considers his music as being party hip hop that takes a stand. He is the first deaf artist to ever be signed to an international record label. There was a diverse group of ages, ethnicities, and gender that attended. The event was held at the Rotunda on 40th and Walnut along the center main stage with Signmark and his speaking interpreter/performer front and center. This made everyone be able to see them spatially and it reminded me of how our desks were assigned in a very concave like structure in class. There was a huge lit screen that also incorporated visual interaction with the audience that helped one identify some of Signmark’s signing. Throughout the performance I noticed many different levels of signing from both those hard at hearing and Deaf. There was a man at the event that would talk to the guests aloud but would only respond to those who signed back at him. He served as a personal liaison for my interacting and interpreting of Signmark’s lyrics throughout the show. When Signmark performed one of his favorite songs off his recent album Breaking the Rules, one motion that stood out was a much choreographed movement he would do to sign “winning/victory”. He motioned his dominant hand in a twist like positioning as if he was spinning his wrist in the air. Another sign that caught my attention was the signing “maniac”...

Journal Review: Cross-Cultural Challenge in Product Placement

...PURPOSE Fundamentally, product placement roots in the USA, which is commonly considered to be an American phenomenon, and used primarily as a movie-based tactic. To define, product placement is the deliberate placement of branded products or services within media content. For example the scene where Will Smith drink Coca-Cola in film. As a result of global flow, and access to media content and technology, the practice of product placement has become media-neutral and spread across other cultures. Due to this circumstances, there is a need to develop an expanded understanding of how non-US consumers perceive such placements. Product placement like traditional forms of advertising, transmit and reflect the important symbolic meanings and values within a culture. To add in, consumer attitudes toward product placement may also vary depending on the fundamental cultural orientations and values of a particular society. In general, there are abundant cross-cultural comparisons of advertising and promotion but little is known regarding how consumers from different cultures perceive and process product placement in their mind. Other than that, there has also been very limited knowledge on how and to what extent the medium of placement affects perceptions of the tactic. The main purpose of this research is to examine: i. US and Korean college student consumers’ attitudes towards product placements in three different media (films, TV shows, and songs). ...

Folk Dance

...Name: Aunso, Jemimah Lea, S. Course and year: BSED 1st 1.What is dance? Dance is a performance art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolicvalue, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture.[nb 1] Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period orplace of origin. An important distinction is to be drawn between the contexts of theatrical andparticipatory dance,[4] although these two categories are not always completely separate; both may have special functions, whether social, ceremonial, competitive, erotic, martial, or sacred/liturgical. Others disciplines of human movement are sometimes said to have a dance-like quality, including martial arts, gymnastics, figure skating, synchronized swimming and many other forms of athletics. 2. What are the types/kinds of dances? Types of Dance - Categories Here are some of the most popular dance categories and types: Ballroom Dances These dances started appearing first in Italy, during the early years of Renaissance. Popularity of this kind of entertainment quickly swept over the Europe, United States and the World. Although many other simpler and more easily preformed types of dances caused the ballroom dances to lose some of their influence, modern worldwide dancing audience started resurrecting these immortal dances in ever increasing pace...

The Role of Globalization of Social Construction of Youth Culture

...The role of Globalization of Social Construction of Youth Culture Introduction The purpose of this paper is to address the role in which globalization plays in the social construction of youth cultures. The phenomenal impact of communication technology on youth culture has generated a continuous debate since the 1970’s (Andrew, 2003, p. 1). The emergence of youth culture was a result of consumer market, which created diverse styles for young people worldwide (Grixti, 2008). Since the introduction of globalization, there has been a dramatic change in youth culture causing a greater shift within societies. As globalization rapidly changes, the world becomes more complex place for young people (Bourn, 2008). Therefore, a significant number of youth globally are having difficulties identifying themselves and finding their sense of belonging in this world (Bourn, 2008). Sociologist has provided strong evidence that globalization on youth culture has not only contributed positively to society but also have negative impact on the current global youth (Kahn & Kellner, 2002). To outline the aforementioned statement, the scope of this essay will confine on youth culture and the influential paradigm that contour youth cultural globally. The theoretical perspective such as post-modernism will be explored to provide a depth understanding of cultural studies. Altogether, this discussion examines the impact of globalization on communication technology and music and fashion industry...

A Cursed Love

...ISBN-13: 978–0–312–44705–2 Instructors who have adopted Rereading America, Seventh Edition, as a textbook for a course are authorized to duplicate portions of this manual for their students. Preface This isn’t really a teacher’s manual, not, at least, in the sense of a catechism of questions and correct answers and interpretations. Because the questions provided after each selection in Rereading America are meant to stimulate dialogue and debate — to generate rather than terminate discourse — they rarely lend themselves to a single appropriate response. So, while we’ll try to clarify what we had in mind when framing a few of the knottier questions, we won’t be offering you a list of “right” answers. Instead, regard this manual as your personal support group. Since the publication of the first edition, we’ve had the chance to learn from the experiences of hundreds of instructors nationwide, and we’d like to use this manual as a forum where we can share some of their concerns, suggestions, experiments, and hints. We’ll begin with a roundtable on issues you’ll probably want to address before you meet your class. In the first section of this manual, we’ll discuss approaches to Rereading America and help you to think through your class goals. We’ll examine some options for tailoring the book to fit your interests and the time constraints of your term. We’ll also take up some pedagogical issues. We’ll offer advice on how to broach particularly hot topics in your class. We’ll explore...
